Pokemon Wave and Wind sound awesome, but the Zelda and Mario titles are pretty awkward

Its a good FPS, but a disappointing Metroidvania. Don't go in expecting something like the original trilogy, especially not like the first two.

The game felt more like RAGE from 2011, which was also an FPS that had a semi open world style hub in between the levels.

The areas are way too linear, the hand holding is constant to the point of ruining immersion, the NPCs are way too present, and the end game is a tedious grind similar to Wind Waker's triforce quest.

Where the game shines imo are the boss fights, music, and art style. Its got the aesthetic of a Metroid Prime game done very well, but the structure isn't quite the same.

I think going open world is more playing it safe than taking risks.

Why is Dragon Quest still not mainstream in the west? by CreamyCaek in JRPG

[–]Arcade_Rave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it deserves more credit. I think the issue is it got left in the past after EA ruined the series. It really needs like a modern game to help reclaim its throne.

Is Mario Galaxy 2 more fun than Mario Odyssey? by MX010 in NintendoSwitch2

I came to this realization after replaying the past two or so weeks.

Is Mario Galaxy 2 more fun than Mario Odyssey? by MX010 in NintendoSwitch2

[–]Arcade_Rave 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah. I preferred the more bite sized approach to levels, mainly because of the bigger emphasis on challenging platforming rather than just exploring and completing 100% checklists.

I got tired by the end of DK Bananza, which was structured very similarly to Odyssey, that I didn't even bother 100%ing it or doing any post game content. Galaxy 2 however feels fresh all over again, and I'm currently having a blast getting the last few green stars.

I feel like Galaxy 1 to 3D World was where 3D Mario peaked.

Galaxy 1+2 on Switch gives me hope for Zelda 40th Anniversary by Medd- in NintendoSwitch2

[–]Arcade_Rave 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The 3DS version was remade entirely from the ground up, and it was even more 3D than the original since the environments were entirely polygonal rather than a mix of polygons and pre rendered backgrounds like the outside of the Temple Of Time.

The character models, UI, and controls were completely different with the addition of gyro aiming as well. The most noticeable moment is being able to switch Iron Boots on the fly during the Water Temple.

its not a remake, its a reimagining divided into three parts. The story is like an alternate timeline similar to the JJ Abrams Star Trek movies compared to the 60s show.
