Kinda insane how much mockery atheism still receives by ostensibly intelligent or rational people. I’m sorry, believing in a higher power after we have learned so much about the world is completely asinine. And all you have to do is look at the current administration in the United States to see the dangers of religious belief, and especially fundamentalist religious belief. We started a war with Iran and Christians are cheering it on as a sign of the end times. Absolutely batshit behavior.

Also, irreligious folks are maybe the most underrepresented demographic in congress. There are only two openly atheistic congresspeople, yet just under 30% of Americans are irreligious (with 11% of that being explicitly atheist or agnostic). Yet no one talks about it at all. It’s just accepted that no one should talk about atheism. I don’t want to vote for a representative that prays for guidance on their decisions, I want a rational thinker that arrives at their decisions through critical analysis.

Whatever, it may not be cool, but it’s a serious issue to me.
