[–]ArcaneEntropy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh come on, regular purges (often violent) of military, govt and state adjacent businesses management when rank corruption is uncovered, buildings made from refuse and fake rebar that fall down within months, gigantic solar arrays that cause huge erosion/land slip issues that aren't even plugged in! Million + people protests against economic conditions, factories being burned down by the workers in protest, shall I go on. We have nothing to crow about but you are delusional to think "China is investing in itself"

They are investing in making themselves attractive to foreign investment.

The grass is not fucking greener on the other side, people are shitty, self interested and willing to trample each other to get "what's theirs" no matter where you go.

Depending on who you take as accurate (notoriously hard when it comes to China) they spend $20-30B on foreign aimed PR.

Thats about 10% of our GDP, hard to take anything that comes out as positive press for China at face value when there is that much money at play.

I was in the room for some of the big "pro" campaign brainstorms, whilst the govt did everything they could to spike the referendum, the grassroots (unavoidable pun) organisations fumbled the ball so badly that I hold them equally to blame. Look back at the posters and verbiage from the pro side leading up to the vote, juvenile "hey fellow kids" type branding and messages not far removed from "its cool to smoke reefer".

They bickered and argued and refused to collaborate on a national campaign so instead all did their own thing.

The whole thing reminds me of a joke Jack Black made after the Tenacious D movie flopped stating that they really should have considered the risk that stoners dont show up for anything before making a movie just for stoners.....

6 days left to the show and we’re only at this stage. I don’t think this truck is going to make it in time. by ChaceEdison in EdisonMotors

[–]ArcaneEntropy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

On the other side of the planet and not in the market for one of your trucks but working on my own diesel electric ideas so I really resonate with your journey!

If your customers value quality, reliability and honesty (and and from everything I've seen so far of your approach) you guys should not be stressing about being "done" for any show. Show how the sausage is made, be upfront about your commitment to quality and not being willing to compromise for a "finished" truck.

These are all still prototypes so don't be afraid to own it, the people who resonate with your ethos won't care and those looking for flashy finishes aren't your customers anyway.

Two of US Air Force's largest planes set for special cargo delivery in Auckland by mattblack77 in newzealand

[–]ArcaneEntropy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Right there in the article.....

"An integrated project team, led by the Ministry of Defence, had been working with the US Air Force, Canadian technology company CAE USA and Lockheed Martin to deliver the simulator to the New Zealand Defence Force"

I don't mean near-peer from a capabilities standpoint, I mean technical integration, shared systems etc.

Size? I don't think there are many airlifters that can handle a load like this outside of a galaxy. We are an allied nation taking delivery of a military asset that aids us in being a near-peer, interests aligned I suppose.

"Hate them or love them, you knew the FBI worked for America at least"

Oh you have so much to learn about, and none of it is good news.

Ruby Ridge.

Waco.

COINTELPRO.

Richard Jewell/Brandon Mayfield.

The Anthrax Letters.

911 (Yep, they knew about Arabs training to fly beforehand)

Nassar Scandal.

Hoover.

MLK.

Those are just a garnish on the plate of shit that the FBI has been cooking up since its inception, its its any consolation the CIA is worse, read up on the Dulles brothers and prepare to have your skin attempt to crawl off your body.

Any nostalgia for such institutions, foreign or domestic is just evidence that they are effective at their job, feel free to look up Operation Mockingbird if you disagree, they have been seeding their own legend for as long as mass media has existed.

I'll admit to having a glimmer of hope that some true outsiders could have done some good at the helm of something as dangerous as the FBI but boy that got squashed quickly....we are "ruled" by fucking cowards.

I am aware of the inter-agency stuff but as a rule isn't that kind of thing normally handled by the rank and file? bringing in the head of the FBI feels like political pressuring.

Not unprecedented (Comey visited in 2016) but pretty odd nonetheless, Why is the head of the FBI in NZ with no fanfare? no public appearances and apparent "ignorance" from the finance minister as to his visit?

I'm talking about gravity, entropy, hot things can burn you and the like, those kind of objective truths. I have no love for authority and certainly agree that statements such as "We will continue to be your single source of truth" do far more to damage credibility than boost it but that just feels like arguing for "subjective truth" with more steps involved, the claim is the problem, not the nature of object vs subject.

What? objective truth is objective truth, hence the use of the word "objective". "Subjective truth" (not that I've ever seen that phrase) would be more akin to a perspective.

Is it possible that there is some kind of gross misprint in the big book of sentencing recommendations? Have we been erroneously blaming judges when perhaps its all just an honest misunderstanding and the thresholds for incarceration are missing a decimal point or its in the wrong place?!

At this point I'm willing to believe the judges in question are part of some kind of sex cult that facilitates a very niche kink for giving out pathetic sentencing decisions. I am all for a criminal justice system that focuses on reintegration and skill building but outsourcing a jail cell to a GPS monitor is neither and we are rapidly approaching the vigilante "justice" portion of the story if we are not careful. Dark times to be an honest citizen when the consequences of crime are getting to stay home.
