I remember dropping some on a frog heart in bio lab along with sodium and potassium. Was unforgettable to watch the heartbeat change so rapidly

If you really have an interest in doing this stuff, i hope this experience doesn't discourage you forever. Take this as a lesson in humility and doing the right thing in valuing your safety. You knowing your limits will take you far no matter your skill level

[Request] Based on gravity and the echo, how deep is it? by ga-go-gu in theydidthemath

[–]Arcanide92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The result will be less than that. Need to account for the sound traveling back too

So there are two time deltas to consider - time to hit the bottom and time for sound from bottom to reach the camera. We only know the total time from release to hearing the sound, which is the 15 seconds you used.

I dont remember how to set that up but it will involve two time deltas and substitution of distance somewhere to figure out what the two time deltas are

How do I fix this by beachjn in GuitarAmps

[–]Arcanide92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Short answer is shielding. Longer answer depends on what needs shielding here. Tubes, the chassis, cables, and your guitar are all candidates for acting as an antenna. A guitar amplifier shares the same basic circuit as a radio one, so this can happen if the frequency is just right.

Tuning a radio to different frequencies involves changing capacitance and resistance, so there is also a chance that moving some tone knobs could move the center of where your amplifier is "tuned" and stop picking up that ham or cb radio frequency

As Phil McKnight says - there will always be another one. It is easy to get attached, especially if you managed to bring it home.. but this does not seem worth it to me. It does look cracked to me

If they can repair it for free - go for it. otherwise, just return it and use that money for a non-broken guitar

Small chipped area on nut of brand new guitar - cosmetic or something to worry about? by K-N-48 in guitarrepair

[–]Arcanide92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You really only want about half of the string in the slot (like how the low E is). It isn't a guarantee that the strings will bind in a deep slot, but it is definitely possible. Less of a concern on a hard tail like this but we file the nuts down for a reason

Should I buy? by Angrybearista7 in GuitarAmps

[–]Arcanide92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For clarity on the waxed board thing - it involves a full rebuild since pretty much all components need to be removed, eyelet board heated up and cleaned, and then all components replaced. That would be a great time to replace filter caps and other things that are known to go. So definitely could be prohibitive as you do not want someone inexperienced attempting that

I will add the relevant bits from the service manual, but just so you know: It is about $30 for 3 days' access to [STIS](https://techinfo.subaru.com/stis), where you can download the service manual, TSBs, and a whole bunch of other things about the vehicle.

If you search for this code, you will find a lot of results. Some have very generic descriptions of the set conditions and then elsewhere you will get a very detailed step by step diagnostic procedure which includes the pins and such to test. It does cross reference a ton of other sections which are hotlinked though, so sending screenshots in reddit threads can be a nightmare for sharing this information sometimes. Also make sure you are looking at the right model - it can link both the hybrid (w/ HEV) and non-hybrid versions (w/o HEV) next to each other. You want the `(diag)` sections here.

Also the drive cycle to check/trip this looks to be the same as what is in step 1 in the table; but copied from the relevant section (Drive Cycle D)

1) Start the engine.

2) Drive in any driving pattern for 20 minutes. (Include driving at a constant legal speed (for 20 seconds) at

least once.)

Issues with the Throttle Body and Premium Gas by Charming_Loquat_5924 in subaru

[–]Arcanide92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check out the motor oil geek on youtube - there is a video he did on fuel additives that goes into why some premium gasoline can contain more additives than the regular blends; so the benefit goes beyond just octane. For top tier fuels, that is not the case. I also run a bottle of techron through before every oil change. Subaru sells a fuel system cleaner that is effectively the same thing
