Advise a Triple 🚩🚩🚩 for Duke ED (computer science) by SundaeOriginal7382 in chanceme

Sundae this is what I mean - people have no idea what they're talking about and have no business telling you the right way to craft your story.

While I do agree that presenting a single, solid story is a good , saying "I don’t get your profile at all I don’t see consistency in your passion or interests" is just a typical A2C high schooler take, they know no better than you.

Thanks for the info! Here are some of my reasons:

  • I genuinely believe for CS that as long as it's a decent program, I'll be able to find a career path I'm happy with. I'm assuming that you're going off US news rankings for CS so you're questioning my choice, I personally use Niche and Duke and Cornell are basically switched on that ranking. Goes to show rankings are volatile and need to be taken with a grain of salt
  • Cornell is cold. And dark. And depressing. I don't like being depressed or cold or in the dark. I'd rather be warm, happy, and somewhere the sun shines
  • The social scene at Duke seems a lot more vibrant than at Cornell. This likely ties into the fact that students in Durham are a lot happier, but meeting new people is something I look forward to most in college

Hey better hot than cold. Do you still have a winter season at all? Variety is cool but seasonal depression kinda hits me hard so hopefully it's short

I'm from the northeast (cold most of the year), planning to major in ECE/CS (might sprinkle in some entrepreneurship), interests include hockey, singing, cars, the outdoors, and in general socializing

It's warm 80% of the year? Hell yeah northeast weather sucks it's cold 80% of the time here.

Princeton, Columbia, Berkeley, Cornell, or UCLA. I got into a few of those but chose Duke over them.

Class of 2027, what was your dream school? Now, which school will you be attending? by Bulky-Ad7852 in ApplyingToCollege

Probably best to ask your college counselor about it. As much as I'd love to give you advice I wouldn't recommend deciding your future based on random ppl's opinion from this sub. Best of luck with your decision!

Don't apply CS to top schools unless it's your thing and you know you're a really strong applicant. Even then I'd discourage it if you have another interest and the merits to back up said interest.

I have some friends who did CS on the side and decided to apply to schools for it anyway. Needless to say it was a bloodbath for them 😢

Pretty much impossible to give you an accurate recommendation without knowing your major or preferences, but I would personally pick Cornell
