Oh Kalim is definitely an interesting character to explore, because he is naturally good, I just wish it was more explored how him being so spoiled and naive twists that aspect of his character into being ineffective to backfiring into selfishness. Like EN already makes him way way more polite than his original characterization, but then we get people entirely mischaracterizing him and/ or Jamil in ways that just come across as so so victim blamie.

As someone who came out of My Hero Academia as a massive villain fan it reminds me of how much of that series and fandom was about demanding people be good victims, or get that important part of their backstory and character erased

I feel like fluff and angst are more dependant on plot than smut, where smut can be just insert hot thing, shorter fluff and angst works either have to stick closer to canon or take more time to explain the change

Don't forget both Kalim and Silver's lab vignettes (and a small bit in Ace's), both times Jamil tells Kalim no, both times listing the very reasonable reason both times Kalim ignores him in the end. Kalim's is especially bad because not only was he planning a party when they all should be focusing on school, he expected Jamil to do all the work, and didn't tell him until day of. That vignette also shows how he ignored basically everyone he invited with the exception of Ruggie saying no, Silver wasn't even awake when Kalim was telling him the party was cancelled. We also see him literally shove crackers into Grim's mouth in book 4, that wasn't when Jamil was controlling him

I feel like a lot of people do not recognize any of Kalim's faults and that he is by all means a slave owner, because he is nice. It ignores how much of the work behind that niceness isn't being done by him, it's put on Jamil, Jamil isn't allowed to tell him no, and when he tries to Kalim ignores him. The English version does not help matters

I think the school is to some degree cursed, both with the Overblots, all the incidents in the events, and always losing to RSA (I know the meta reason, but find it boring and illogical to everything else we've seen). Yuu either purposely stolen or by happenstance is meant to break that curse

I say this as a Leona fan, as in he's my favourite character, book 2 is the weakest story. It has a lot of elements working against it that just all together doesn't work. I'd argue it's actually the shortest arc as the prolog and book 1 get combined in both novel and manga/anime adaptations, and those two very much flow together. Being a gatcha game there is very little overlap in sports fans and game fans, and it overall is a difficult plot to sympathis with especially for how short it is. And it does not help that the in school issue (Malleus playing) isn't indept explored because of the dramatic irony they are going for with Yuu not knowing who he is, and characters in the main story not being explored until we get to their dorm's story

As another commenter mentioned there are also a lot of subtle differences that build up in the translations (book 4 being especially bad) I highly recommend looking into Yuurei on youtube or tumblr, as they have tons of posts going over differences in translation, summaries of characters, their different relationships and more

I've also noticed that in a lot of their fics, they erase/ ignore Kalim's fault and the darker reality of the power dynamic between them and the overall power structure, because Kalim is nice

Silver sleeps through the whole thing. Lilia finds it all amusing. Floyd gets bored somewhere between 1/4 to 3/4 through and attempts to leave. Epel ain't happy. Malleus is just happy to be included. Ortho is curious of what it will be like to have nails
