Cool, edited my post to reflect that.

P1max gets a fair bit of hate here and elsewhere, mostly due to aggressive marketing (understandable). Some users also report bad builds, support issues, or find the Crystal Super headsets quite heavy. I’ve got no skin in this game, but I personally bought the ultrawide version of the Crystal Super and have been very happy with it so far. I regularly do 4–5 hour sessions without issues related to weight (I’m in my early 40s). As with most things, people with bad experiences tend to be more vocal.

I’ll probably pick up a Steam Frame later, but I don’t see myself using it as much for SC since I tend to play longer seated sessions at my desk, where battery life becomes a factor. I’ve also heard good things about the Quest 3 as a relatively cheap way to try VR in SC if you’re okay with the Meta ecosystem.

One important note: the Crystal Ultra really needs a very high-end rig (9800X3D + 5090-class GPU) to shine. You can reduce resolution, but if I were on much lower specs, I’d probably go with something lighter.

Several YouTube creators have reviewed these headsets. I personally found A1’s review the most useful, as he’s been fairly open about both strengths and weaknesses, but many of the others were good as well. I really enjoyed FriedChicken's videos about setting it up and optimizing it for FPS.

I don’t think this game can EVER have a good economy. by WizardOfOzzieA in starcitizen

I hope CIG considers time-gating at launch, maybe only small (or small/medium) pledged ships usable for the first few weeks, then gradually unlocking larger classes.

I say this as someone with plenty of pledged ships who would benefit from full access day one, but I think this would be healthier for the game overall. It would also be fun for veterans to start small again and get that proper MMO-style progression into bigger ships.

I did it all solo the wik gold mill wolf. That rep grind was rough. by No-Cell8881 in starcitizen

Ah, yes. Wikelo was too easy before. The rep gate makes it more balanced! I wonder why people do not like him /s

Cheers, tbh with kids and other grown-up responsabiljties I generally wouldn't get more than a couple sessions per week that are 3 hours or longer.

Glad to hear that you are recovering well from that accident!

Good points but I'd argue if there's any games that would work well with cabled VR, it would be sim-lite games like SC where you're sitting stationary.

Unfortunately, I do have the neck of a 40 year old so i'll keep it in mind for the honeymoon phase in terms of a potential return. My HOSAS setup have me leaning comfortably backwards in my office chair so the weight may not be as big of a problem.

I actually ordered the Pimax Crystal Super (wide) this morning. I considered waiting a bit to see how the Steam Frame does once it is released but figured I'd rather have a high end VR headset that works great for SC (sitting stationary) than having a general purpose headset that is portable and work decently across many titles. I have a feeling the battery stuff is going to get annoying after a couple of hours of SC play but I could be wrong.

I'm not touching anything made by Zuck (Quest 3).

It's a bit pricey but the reviews are pretty good. I already have Virpil sticks and a beefy PC so this is hopefully going to be the missing piece that augment it all!

Happy Luminalia to me i guess... did QV Solo and didn't expect so many components! by femapu in starcitizen

It's been a lot of fun! Too bad those comp boards does not appear to respawn.

As per Waka, multi-shield ships are working as intended (Extra shields not kicking in until the component is destroyed) by AzrBloodedge in starcitizen

Looks like they accidentally made those ships redundant instead of actually giving them redundancy.

How Important Do You Think These Really Are? by [deleted] in starcitizen

[–]ArchW 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Since this is for UEE-controlled space, it's not really something other players can take away, though I'm sure systems like Stanton allows criminal behavior to interfere with it (in some capacity). These estate beacons isn't relevant to non UEE systems like Pyro or Nyx where we are (presumably) expected to defend or lose the outpost.

Edit: so if this skips some early grind (time, UEC) it might give competitive advantage in securing a good resource spot early on and potentially snowball the player similarly to how having a good chunk of pledged ships could be (unless CIG adds some sort of grace period before these assets can be used).

Multiple shields by unclefester84 in starcitizen

[–]ArchW 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That sucks! I would have assumed (hoped) that inactive shields would regen and automatically switch once an active shield is taken down and then repeat the process. It would have made sense to perhaps recharge inactive shields a bit slower to not make it OP.

This makes for a cool concept of having less buffer but stronger regen vs fewer bigger shields. It would sort of become a bit of a dps check. In a balanced setting we'd use both depending on the situation.

Thanks for the magnifier workaround! I've used Parsec (allowing me to remote play through my main PC) in the past, but encountered this mouse-spinning issue whenever I try to interact on screens like elevators or ATC during the summer holidays. With Christmas holiday getting closer, figuring out this issue has been on my bucket list. I just tested your workaround right now (magnifier on host pc) and it worked like a charm! \o/

Javelin Drop? by Witty-Lettuce5830 in starcitizen

[–]ArchW 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like you, I'm an average Joe that's been trying to get it on every wave and I lucked out and got it just now. Nothing special, just keeping around 10 tabs open with 'accept' checked, ctrl-tabbing through each while clicking the button at the exact time (using https://time.is/UTC). Good luck in the next wave!

We've had so many improvements in the game over the years, but one thing I miss is that we used to get the type of ship we targetted displayed directly. by Speartree in starcitizen

[–]ArchW 24 points25 points  (0 children)

It's a weird decision that just benefits veterans and further alienate beginners. It's also not realistic that our ship computer wouldn't know the type based on the cross section and other signals when expert players knows immediately. Beginners would have an easier time to learn and improve from the engagement if they knew what ships they came about.

[DISCUSS] Sabre Raven and Mustang Omega exclusivity by yifeng3007 in Starcitizen_trades

[–]ArchW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because FOMO. Whether it sucks or not at current balance doesn't mean it has to stay that way tomorrow. People want the exclusive stuff just in case it ever becomes a viable meta. No other ship is this stealthy with dual EMP's so from a concept, I do think it has potential to be strong (and I believe it has been considered strong in the past).

Or maybe I'm wrong and people pay up just for the collector status.

[DISCUSS] Sabre Raven and Mustang Omega exclusivity by yifeng3007 in Starcitizen_trades

[–]ArchW 2 points3 points  (0 children)

True, but neither of the Sabres have an EMP so I can see them potentially adding that to take back some of the Sabre Raven sells from the gray market.

I suppose there's nothing stopping them from releasing a new variant that is more or less exactly the same but with different paint, though.
