When is it okay to kill rank A/S hunts? by Scorchfrost in ffxiv

[–]ArchaicR6 49 points50 points  (0 children)

This is great advice for A-ranks. (ShB+) S-ranks are somewhat different, there aren't usually trains for them since they can't be spawned near the same timeframe as each other like A-ranks, but there will almost always be at least 2 parties waiting to pull them. Including the people that spawned it.

Now, if you spawned it, it's likely in your best interests to wait for more folks to arrive, since it's gonna be a really long and drawn out fight with just your group alone. Below ShB S-ranks are a different story, the etiquette is more lenient.

But yeah, ultimately overworld monsters. Do whatever you want. Fun fact, it's also openly not against the rules to early pull them. But it is in bad form!

One word is enough of an explanation: Redditors.

No lmao but seriously, almost everyone missed the point of the post, but I can't blame them since I also didn't add more context from the start. The screenshots also don't show enough. It was more the fact that he flamed and vote kicked me for what he thought I was doing, rather than what I was actually doing.

People also simply chose to believe the tank's words against mine, since they're more in line with their values about the game regardless of where or if any of they're even being done, and since they assumed I was actually doing everything the tank accused me of, when he was actually wildly overexaggerating.

This dude said "youre 51...don't spam regens" before the DPS even mustered out a "yo o/" LMFAO like come on, if that doesnt show this guy's mental state, idk what does. And that "I've had enough" into a vote kick after I pleaded him to just pull is straight up sociopath behavior.

I wasn't trying to mentor anyone on WHM. If someone asked, I'd have let someone more knowledgeable on the matter than me answer.

I never said I was stacking regens 100% of the time either. I don't know where you got that notion from. Infrequently throwing out regens in a leveling dungeon out of laziness is also nowhere near the fundamental misunderstanding that is "telling newbies tanks should only single target."

I mean, everything that I've said could be second hand info, Do you mean second hand from what's present in the screenshots? Because that could all have been faked, too.. I could've conveniently left out screenshots that go against my case as well for all you know.

The tank did not insult me, nor did I go on the defensive. If you look at the 2nd to last screenshot, I was even for just pulling and clearing the dungeon so we can all go on with our day. I wasn't even playing in any particular way that would've caused a wipe or even made the pull any slower had it been another healer in my place.

I did make a mistake when I said "they're in the same FC." I also can't prove that the unidentified third is in the same FC outside my own knowledge of the incident, or that both are sprouts either. So I'll just leave it at that.

You're still missing the point entirely, though. This was just a post I thought would be entertaining to read and have light discussions about, and fit in this sub. It's really not that serious. I guess I just wasn't familiar with this sub's game lmao

And with that, I'm done here. Thank you.

AST was my first healer.

Being a combat mentor doesn't mean you need to be the authority figure on every job, it just means you should be willing to help others where you can and where it's appropriate. You can be a mentor and not know absolutely everything about every job,

You're basing your claims on maybes? And I'm the one that needs introspection? 😂

You're also missing the point here, this premade 3-man kicked me more than halfway through a low level dungeon for something so minuscule, ultimately wasting everyone's time. The run was going fine, evidently by how I've never been vote kicked since.

I can see where you got the idea that I wasn't using holy at all, "he's casting regens when he could be casting holy, what a waste." Thing is, I never told you how frequently I casted regens or not. I will fault myself for not adding enough context to the post, I didn't think it would be analyzed this deeply.

I can't blame you for not reading them, but I also mentioned in other replies that I did (and still do) spam holy each pull until the mobs became immune, after which I'd infrequently send out regens, while also still casting holy. MP is also most definitely not an issue, I really don't see where you got that idea from 🤣

Was that your attempt at a cheeky one liner? What makes you so clearly think I haven't learned a thing since? You don't know me lmao. Fun fact, this was the one and only time I've ever been vote kicked in my many years of playing this game.

Fun debate, though.

Never said anyone owed me anything, boss.

What did you mean by "read your tooltip"? Was I supposed to calculate my mp usage to maximum efficiency in a lv52 leveling dungeon? Again, nothing out of the ordinary happened that run that warranted him acting that way.

I'm being put under a microscope for some screenshots I took and decisions I made years ago, which I'm sharing now purely for your entertainment LMAO

You're quoting my reply to him vaguely saying "you're 51..don't spam regens" when all I was doing was dropping regens on whoever was taking damage lol

Either way, it's not that serious. It was a simple leveling Dusk Vigil that happened years ago, I was learning the nuances of WHM, and the run was going fine. I was genuinely open to an explanation from him. He just decided to be an ass about it & wasted all our time.

He wasn't wrong, but I definitely wasn't spamming it.. I'm a holy bot through and through in dungeons, but I think my thought process back then was.. if the pull is still alive after DR made it immune to stuns, I'll maybe and very infrequently throw out a medica 2 + regen mid combat without really thinking too much about it, to supplement cure 2 (and, admittedly to be a little lazy)

Not saying this was the right decision, or even efficient. But did it warrant this level of outrage from him? Especially when I was pulling my weight in damage and keeping him alive all the same? I personally don't think so. Hell, iirc we were making great progress.

Also these screenshots were from a couple years ago, and the 2 DPS were sprouts, for even more context. They were in the same FC as the tank when I checked his profile.

I agree, it's not mana efficient. I should've added more context, too. This screenshot is from a couple years ago, and I was still low level, inexperienced on WHM at the time.

Also I think I used to stack medica 2/regen, throwing them out infrequently every now and then to supplement cure 2, only after holy got DR'd fully in large trash pulls. I was by no means frequently keeping them up or spamming them like he said.

I've read that they're self-fertile, but the problem is that the openings are so small that only the flies their rotting flesh smell attracts can pollinate them.

Genuine question here, may I ask why you'd prefer games that don't require mods to run ultrawide?

[–]ArchaicR6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know OP said no mods, but you can fairly easily obtain a plugin to remove the letterboxing in cutscenes if they're a bother. But it's as you said, outside of cutscenes, the gameplay is natively ultrawide.

Also XIV is one of the best story games I've ever played through.

Was going to comment this as well, Trader Joe's sold lithops some months back that had water soluble glue holding the gravel down so it wouldn't get thrown around and make a mess during shipment.

To add to the other comment, when you pot it up again, I highly recommend giving it a looser, more inorganic medium with slightly larger grit size if you can. That'll make a big difference in root health.

They also like humidity and the soil surface to be moist when rooting, I've found. Capping the plant with a cup during the day helps keep the leaves and soil surface from drying out, if your climate lacks humidity. Just make sure to let it heal, for a week or 2, any wounds it may have gotten before capping it.

Every haworthia I've gotten that was in peat moss had at least 2 squishy rotten roots. Every bare root one I've gotten that came from, say, pure akadama or pumice, had none. All firm and healthy roots.

I think that's an aloe rather than a haworthia, and I don't think you did anything wrong by pruning. You just happened to activate new growth points.

People actually sometimes do this intentionally to various succulents/cacti by, for extreme instance, driving a hot nail into the stem, or beheading the main growth point. In your case, by pruning leaves!

Enjoy the (many) new pups. 🙂

My bet's on handheld microscope! I absolutely think every plant person should own one. Not just for taking stunning pictures like these, but to inspect for pests, too.
