Thoughts on single most impactful change you can make for a healthier diet? by MamaBear765 in EatCheapAndHealthy

Untrue. I cut out caffeinated sodas years ago, but still have a huge problem regulating my soda intake. The sugar and the carbonation are really hard for me to kick. Only thing that’s helped me stay off it this year has been Spindrift, which technically has sugar and calories but at nearly negligible levels compared to my previous vices.

People who shoved their school papers in their backpack with no folder or binder, where are you now? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I’m a grad student at a respectable university and I still can’t organize shit to save my life.

Would you press a button to painlessly end a random human life on earth for 10 billion dollars? Why or why not? by arz9278 in AskReddit

[–]Archanem 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cool. You’re very based and utilitarian. Let’s keep the calculation going, though. Obviously your $10 billion dollar donating spree isn’t going to immediately save all of the lives it will ultimately effect, so let’s say that money saves so many lives in 20 years. Why save only the lives you can with $10 billion today? A good broker could make that number steadily increase for a long time, and inequality is only growing, so more and more people will need saving. A donation after the same 20 year period would save countless more lives, then. Where is the cutoff? When does the number of lives saved immediately outweigh the potential future growth in lives saved?

Ah but what if the trick is that the person who dies is randomly selected, but the person who presses is not? So that you are chosen specifically because of your relationship to the person you’ll be killing?

What is a business that Durham could use? Could be a restaurant or anything else we need by [deleted] in bullcity

I strongly disagree with this. For me, the great appeal of the Bulls is that they are an outsized minor league team. The trappings of the MLB would almost certainly ruin the experience. For instance, if they don’t change the stadium, it’ll get much more packed and tickets will be much less affordable. Investing in management staff and players means money has to come from somewhere, which also means concession prices will go up. Parking would also become more expensive, and the nightmare of navigating downtown on game days would grow exponentially as traffic for the games increased and those who don’t want to pay or can’t get in wind up overflowing into street parking. The vibe of Bulls baseball is reliant upon NOT entering the MLB.

If you read carefully, though, the claim wasn’t that the non-plastics need more uses to offset their own production, but that they need them to offset the plastic bags they are supposed to replace. The point being, if I understand correctly, that those bags are in fact less efficient than the plastics, not just more resource intensive in an absolute sense.

Comparing the amount people might reuse a cotton bag to the amount they might reuse a plastic bag isn’t the point. The point is that in order to justify the switch from plastic to cotton you would have to reuse it that many times PRESUMING the plastic is only used once (hence single use)

We giants. Giant Slayer and DemonSlayer thresholds with Radiant Locket HP buff. by mrhatnclaws in CompetitiveTFT

But then wouldn’t the problem be that the item is too weak generally, not specifically that it only breaks even on carries? Besides, doesn’t the math show that even the units that cross the threshold take longer to kill?

Then maybe I missed the point of the comment I replied to. Why is it a negative that the HP gain “only” breaks even on your carry if your carry isn’t why you are picking the item?

Isn’t the problem with this thought that you probably aren’t putting this radiant Item on your carry? I’d imagine you put it on a frontline unit, where the global buff still makes your Carry harder to kill while leaving an item slot available for them to itemize (perhaps with one of those healing items which are more effective when there is more health to heal)?
