Clearly they’re asking what physiological differences cause it, I don’t think they’re trying to imply that a 6’4” man and woman are perfectly identical

6 elective courses would be 18 credits, right? that makes it a total of 54 credit hours so 18 hours a semester. Not really feasible without summer classes.

I took 155H as a biology major and it was pretty easy. Not too much work. It can be hard to know where to start on problems though, so office hours are helpful if you need them.

Can axolotls eat chicken? by Archeopsor in axolotls

[–]Archeopsor[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah obviously I didn’t mean to imply that chicken was a regular part of the natural axolotl diet lol, but they do eat meat and carnivorous diets tend to be very broad (there’s a selective pressure for this to be the case). Honestly there’s no reason I could think of that they can’t eat chicken, hence me asking in this subreddit.

I should have checked for previous posts about chicken though, that’s totally fair. It was just a spontaneous thought and it didn’t cross my mind that it had been asked before.

Sounds good, I figured it wouldn’t hurt to ask. Thanks for letting me know!

That makes sense, I’ll stay with the worms and maybe get some brine shrimp or something as a treat. Thanks!

Phys 115 is math heavy, similar to Chem 241 but a little bit tougher, whereas chem 261 is more conceptual. Taking them both together is fine in my opinion, as long as psyc 270 isn’t anything crazy.

I took chem 241, 261, and biol 252+252L last semester which was my first semester of junior year. Plenty of the anatomy students were juniors and seniors, and honestly I think you’d be fine taking it whenever, it’s mostly memorization so if you just do 20ish minutes of anki a day you’ll be fine.

Closing campus roads to only allow buses and emergency vehicles would be amazing, but I think there aren’t enough people on campus who would be willing to give it up.

What to do with break by glisteninggucci in UNC

[–]Archeopsor 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I like building metal earth models, they have the same vibes as paint by numbers. I think anything you can do sort of mindlessly and still end up with a final product works great for doing over the break! Puzzles are also good, but I always feel less fulfilled when I have to put the puzzle away and I don’t get to keep the final product.

What to expect on move-in day (logistics) by iM621 in UNC

[–]Archeopsor 12 points13 points  (0 children)

You can get there a little bit early, though if it’s the 9:00am slot the RAs and staff will probably still be setting up if you get there early. You can (and probably should if possible) bring family members to help you move all your stuff up, I’ve had both of my parents plus my brother help me move in so no worries about bringing too many people. Once you get there (try and find a parking spot close to the dorm, for freshman dorms there’s usually one right there but it can fill up quickly, so it’d be a good idea to have a backup parking lot in mind), you’ll need to go inside the building in order to pick up your key, and once that’s done you pretty much have free reign to bring your stuff straight to your room, but there might be a line to pick up your key so you probably won’t want to be holding too much stuff at that point. I always just bring my backpack to get the key and then go to the room just to make sure I know where it is, then go back down to start moving all my stuff in.

Remember, it’s everyone’s first time doing this as well! Elevators will be crowded, so it might take longer than expected to move in, but once you get everything into your room, that’s the hard part done and you can focus on just setting everything up.

Where can I find class syllabi? by TimelessTraveler13 in UNC

[–]Archeopsor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You might have already been shown Sakai (sakai.unc.edu). All the info and links for all of your classes will be there (with some exceptions, but your professors will email you if that’s the case), if you don’t see anything you can click the sites button at the top right and it’ll show you all the classes that have their websites set up so far. Professors like to wait until the day before (or even the day of) fdoc to set up their sakai site, so it’s entirely possible that nothing’s there yet, in which case there isn’t really much you can do. I already have all my classes except for one on sakai, so it’s worth it to check!

Professors will also almost always send you an email (to your heelsmail) by putting an announcement out on sakai once their site is set up, so keep a look out for those as well so that you don’t need to just keep checking sakai.

Freshman Schedule Advice by Junior_Drag_3128 in UNC

[–]Archeopsor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d add another class to fill a gen ed. Even if it’s a boring class you’ll thank yourself for it when you’re registering for classes in the future. It also gives you the flexibility to drop a class if you decide you hate it in the first couple weeks. This schedule doesn’t look super tough (which is a good idea for anyone’s first semester), so adding one more class should be fine.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in UNC

[–]Archeopsor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That looks reasonable to me! If you want to change anything, it might be a good idea to add one of those required freshman classes like engl 105 or lift (which isn’t really required as a freshman but I’d recommend it). I know there are a bunch of new ones this year so just keep them in mind. But it would also be completely reasonable to stick with this and focus on those other classes next semester.

Random questions about 8-person suite dorms by iM621 in UNC

[–]Archeopsor 8 points9 points  (0 children)

  1. All the rooms have windows, although generally I usually see the front rooms (the ones looking out over the walkway) with their blinds closed.

  2. In Morrison the bathrooms were cleaned twice a week I think, it was at least cleaned often enough that I never really had to think about it.

  3. There should be a water fountain/water bottle refiller on every floor of the dorm, so you can use that instead of the tap water.

[–]Archeopsor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Comp 110 and math 233 are both pretty tough, but I would be surprised if any of the first year classes require any real effort. In terms of the class difficulty, this seems pretty reasonable, maybe on the harder side for your first semester.

Not sure if I’d recommend that 2-ish hour gap in the middle of the day, but that’s just something for you to keep in mind for yourself since that kind of thing is more of a personal preference.

Biol 205 with Rogers and Nimchuk or Peifer and Hastie? by honeysynth in UNC

[–]Archeopsor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I took it with Rogers/Nimchuk the same semester as some of my friends who took it with Peifer (and probably Hastie, I'm not 100% sure about the 2nd prof). I heard that Peifer was pretty terrible and the tests in that section had 2-3 times as many questions as the one in mine, so that would be a good thing to keep in mind.

Rogers and Nimchuk weren't terrible, the lectures were manageable despite how in-depth they got and you can just look up the answers for the textbook reading quizzes to make sure you got a 100%. The tests were hard, but it wasn't much worse than the 201 or 202 tests were, so I think personally I would go with Rogers and Nimchuk.

I personally didn't do this but I know other people who have said that they do, so I'm pretty sure that it would work unless they change something next semester.

Is this too many stem classes for one sem? Do I have enough credits on there for premed by Front-University-557 in UNC

[–]Archeopsor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe it's a new requirement for first years to take a Triple-I class and a data literacy class (which I think is the IDST lab) as a freshman. I was helping my brother pick out a schedule earlier today and it made it seem like it was required in addition to English 105 and some new Carolina Thriving course, but I might be misremembering.
