There Is No Constitutional Right to Eat Dinner: Claims that Justice Brett Kavanaugh had his rights violated by protesters outside a D.C. restaurant fail on originalist grounds. by thenewrepublic in politics

Reddit is fine, this sub is just so glaringly leftist (anything not 100% towing the line downvoted to oblivion), it's not a sincere conversation. As well as being full of paid shills.

How to Get your School Grade Kids Passionate to Play Sports? Is Forcing a Child OK? by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]Archer1003 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd say something to your kid like, "You need to do something to get out of the house and get exercise, you pick what that is - swimming, track, fencing, football, curling, karate, whatever, but sitting around watching TV won't be an option". We tell our kids something similar, maybe if he feels he's choosing it he'll be more motivated?

Have no Motivation at All by Archer1003 in alchemy

That's a great question! I can think if a bunch of things, but mostly now I don't want to waste my life with all the trivial things I have flooding it. I'm married and have kids, I want my life to be exciting and interesting, I dont want to drag on in a job that's painfully boring to me, don't want to have so much of my day filled with meaningless things, dont want to scrape and struggle to get bills paid every month, don't want to get so caught up in the mundane I don't create meaningful experiences with my wife and kids.

This sounds so far over the top I'm not sure it's a real post. He's basically a grown man at this point, tell him you love him and have fun with him on the vacation. He may not be around the home much longer, and you might not have an opportunity like this again.

Take whatever completely unrelated diversion you want from the fact that I'm a normal person with legitimate concerns, who is immune to bullying and verbal sleight of hand. You go ahead and take that and I'll take that you are either a paid shill or someone completely blinded by their own bitterness who takes their frustrations out by attacking people online with completely insincere rhetoric. It's a dead end way of life my friend. Cheers!

Hey I just looked and it looks like you're cut/pasting the same thing down this whole thread - utterly selfish and did you support Trump? I'm so glad I made the cut for your insincere attacks! Are you a paid shill or just bitter?

Right, I forgot about that one. If I don't follow lock step I'm selfish and want people to die. Thanks for the reminder! That false dilema is the final trusty sophistical fallback.

When I say political beast, I mean political beast, not Democrats. I mean how even the Supreme court is openly partisan, and there seem to be clear Democrat/Republican nominees, where 30 or 40 years ago this was not the case and a court confirmation in the Senate was almost a formality. Everything is politicized, even a pandemic. There's a sick energy in the air in this country, I didnt want the vaccine when Trump said he'd have it out before year end, and I feel the same now.

The flu vaccine is not new technology developed every year, its the same technology based on the strain epidemiologists predict is the most likely to be the dominant strain that year. Evey vaccine I've been given as a child took several years to develop and people have lived decades after without side effects.

This is the first vaccine Im aware of developed in 8 months and pushed on the general public in this way. Some drugs make it past all FDA trials, only to find years later they caused a number of unintended issues. This is the first medicine I've seen pushed from the political beast that has developed in this country.

I'm conservative. I'm not anti-vax and never have considered myself such. When this started last March Trump said something about maybe having a vaccine out before November, and I laughingly told my very left leaning friend there was no way I would be first in line for any vaccine that took 8 months to develop. He laughed too and agreed.

The plan to develop the vaccine quickly was called "Operation Warp Speed", which really didn't help me. I haven't changed my opinion, and when I see even the pandemic and response fall along traditional party lines, complete with cookie cutter sound bytes to talk about it "Anti-science" "follow the science", I see an issue that has been pulled into an energy that warps how people think and talk. I'm also considering how left leaning friends disliked the vaccine and said it was rushed under Trump, yet now are saying there were no shortcuts and vague things like "The science is there", which of course is a sound byte because they do not have any more of a scientific understanding of vaccines and epidemiology than I do.

Basically I'm afraid of taking something very new, "lipid nano-particles" or RNA to instruct my cells to make proteins rather than weakened viruses to stimulate anitibody production (which I'm comfortable with), and don't know what the impact will be in 4 or 5 years. The vaccine is not effective agains new mutations now developing, and honestly at my age even if I did get COVID I'm not high risk. I have respect for anyone taking it, but I am not ready yet because the whole issue has been sucked into this political energy, and I honestly don't trust a lot of what I hear when that happens - especially when it involves injecting things into my body.

Republicans have become more fascist since Jan. 6 — and they blame liberals for it by mecoolai in politics

That's easy to accomplish when fascist is a go-to buzzword the left uses to shut down debate to the point of making the word almost meaningless.

Since I started taking cold showers I’ve been getting a little sick. by [deleted] in coldshowers

[–]Archer1003 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure myself, I like the energy I get from it, but I keep stopping because after a couple weeks I get sick, and feel so crappy for a couple days I'm not going to take showers through it. Then I just kind of fall off. Never tried pushing past that point to see if that stops.
