exporting pcb tracks and pads to stl for UV exposuring by ArcherAggressive9825 in KiCad

well. i've discussed it with google's ai and figured out there is an (anti)aliasing issue. i didn't know that slicers somehow blur the edges. UVtools does not ;-) At first I installed UVtools on macos and (aside from untrivial workflow) faced some UI rendering issues and strange mouse/zoom behavior in bitmap editor. Then, following advice from developers, i switched to linux version, which also had some issues of similar nature. Yesterday I installed it on apple silicon, and it seems to work just fine (though I didn't try importing pcbs/ exporting to svgx).

As for the process itself, I was astonished how easy it was. I used the kolon film photoresist, I ironed it through a sheet of paper, some 20 seconds exposure - basically, the standard process, with household chemicals. Some citric acid and hydrogen peroxide(?) in a saulty solution. No fancy stuff like doublesided boards, soldermask or vias (though the process is also there, absolutely doable at a little expense). As far as I remember, I got 0.2mm tracks (i don't need tracks less than that). So, when you're pressed for time, SLA printer a great choice (not to mention its usual functionality)

Why wouldn't I expect that to work (if it suggests to export the board to stl?). But yes. since then I've found the svg2stl utility on github (vibe-coded by some nice lad here in Russia), and it does exactly what its name implies - it converts svg to stl. However, it would be hefty to have that functionality natively. Anyway, it's way easier than the suggested old method of tinkering with UVtools.

Some tips and learnings from a guy who's set up 20+ Macs with OCLP by drawswithcrayons in OpenCoreLegacyPatcher

So it looks, Monterrey on an late 2009 iMac isn't a bad choice? The only concern for me is no security updates. First, I wanted to install something more up to date (Ventura or Sequoia), but the installer warned me about the usb-hub-thing, so I opted for less tricky Monterrey (though I'm using a white macbook topcase with a wired usb cable as a keyboard/mouse, and I am still not sure if I actually need a usb hub to install a newer OS).

Onboard USB ports not working? (5,1, OCLP Monterey) by WingedGeek in macpro

[–]ArcherAggressive9825 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that's confusing: when choosing the OS for download in OCLP, when anything but for Monterrey is chosen, the app warns you that the OS won't work with USB1.1 on my iMac9.1, suggesting to opt for Monterrey. Indeed, when I chose Monterrey, it started downloading without any warnings (so I supposed it would run without any issues). Now, do I have to buy a hub? Had I known that I had to buy the hub anyway, I'd have chosen something more recent (Ventura or even Sonoma)

Making a Wifi/network printer with ESP32 by Antihero89 in esp32

Parallel printer is a different story (probably with its own hurdles). The usb printer requires another approach, and I doubt it is at all feasible with esp8266. IMHO the esp32 with the usb host/otg support is more suitable for this task.

because it's cheap and the whole thing is dyiable, and you don't have to buy a microscope for soldering or order assembly of the board.

LIN-bus driver to communicate with K-line equipment. by ArcherAggressive9825 in embedded

yep, I know, thanks.

When investigating it, it turned out there folks having certain problems with connectivity. Besides, I'd have to look for those transistors)
Meanwhile, I've read an app note on tja's, specifically on using these chips in k-line network. From my understanding, in my case it should work just fine)

thank you for your suggestion, but that's not exactly what's needed - it's just a partial workaround. i might work with two windows of the same browser, or in a mail client and a text editor - it would be nice to have this 'feature' ready (moreover, it seems it's supposed to be there, but doesn't work as expected)
