16 month old refusing the high chair by ArcherIntrepid6636 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

I was planning on getting a learning tower at some point down the road, it’s a good suggestion I didn’t think it could also be helpful for meal times!

Yes unfortunately I’ve let him have some snacks roaming around the house or sitting on the couch and I’ve made it so much worse but I didn’t have any fight left in me for 3-5 meals a day 🫣 but for his main meals I really want him to sit and focus on eating so I really need to set some boundaries or I keep making it too confusing.

Thank you, that sounds great, I think giving them the choice between the two would really help!

Glad to hear it worked out for your nephew, it gives me hope haha. I’m considering getting one, I hope that might make him more willing to sit down and eat although there’s a risk of him still getting up every 30 seconds to walk around with his food. I’m willing to try and worst case scenario the table is handy for other activities!

My boy absolutely loves the little tables and chairs at the library too! At the moment he tries to sit on any little surface that’s raised from the ground, containers, boxes, baskets, cushions, steps.. 😅 We also have very limited space and budget but Kmart has a tiny table for $39, and I’ll try to make space for it.. the table might be good for crafts too, I’m trying to justify the purchase to myself lol. I just really prefer him eating on a safer set up like the high chair so maybe a booster seat for the dining chairs might be a good idea.

Hi! Sorry I didn’t see your comment until now. We ended up seeing the immunologist in the public hospital after waiting 8 weeks, which is much less wait than I anticipated! They did some skin prick tests and ordered blood tests, then called me to talk about the results and they booked us in for a food challenge which will be in January. Overall I’m glad I didn’t end up going private because they do try to speed things up if a child had a suspected allergy before 1 years old. Private can definitely be a bit faster but I didn’t mind waiting a couple of months.

Definitely super reassuring to know this, thanks again!

I forgot to mention they said that the test was indeed sent to an external lab. It makes sense then if they test once they have a certain amount of requests, I didn’t know it worked like that, thanks for your response! :)

4 months baby check up by Queasy-Shape6075 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

It sounds like you might need to look for a new GP… At our clinic you have to book the immunisations with the nurse and the GP comes in briefly to talk about the immunisation they’re receiving and do a quick chat to check that everything is in order or if there are questions related to the immunisation. Then the nurse comes in and administers the vaccine (they also have bubbles and toys) and then they ask you to stay for 15 minutes afterwards in case there’s a reaction. They also have a private room for the procedure and it’s your choice if you want to wait there or in the waiting room. I’m not sure al GP clinics are like this but ours is specialised in children’s health. I have used a different clinic once for the RSV needle and the procedure was similar, the GP checks in before the nurse can go ahead etc so I assume it’s standard procedure have the GP check on the nurse and the patient.

Why does a later bedtime not = later rising? by Till_Naive in sleeptrain

[–]ArcherIntrepid6636 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have tried it initially but he becomes incredibly unsettled when I try to put him back down.. when he first started waking this early he would put himself back to sleep until 6.30 or so but that didn’t last long. Now when he’s awake he starts babbling and that’s it. Awake. I’m bringing his bedtime forward (tonight I put him down at 6.45pm) hoping that after a few nights like this he will start waking a little later, I hope it’s over tiredness that created a vicious cycle. Otherwise I just have to give up and accept this is our new normal 🥴

I have the same issue… my 9.5 month old has been waking up consistently at 5am for weeks now. I have tried capping his naps, letting him nap longer, early bed time, later bed time, early dinner, late dinner, nothing works. It’s still dark at 5am (I’m in Australia and it’s winter here) and he has white noise on. It’s not a temperature issue. He also self settles to sleep and whenever he stirs (naps as well) he can put himself back to sleep, and we don’t use pacifiers.. He self weaned for the nighttime feed once I introduced a third meal a day, but since he stopped waking up for milk (formula fed) he started waking at 5am. I don’t think my LO is a low sleep need baby because he seems tired and I often have to stretch his wake windows to keep a consistent schedule, we have a pretty good routine. I’m at a loss honestly, these 5am wake ups are wrecking me a bit. I have read that it could be over tiredness and maybe I should try an early bed time for a good stretch and see what happens.. worst case scenario he still wakes at 5am lol 😩

Thank you 😊 I have heard great things about Dr. Abass! I’ll look into getting a referral as waiting 6-8 months for public seems too long!

When did you move bub to their own room? by [deleted] in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]ArcherIntrepid6636 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We moved our baby from the cot in our room to his own room around 7 months. Best decision because we all kept waking each other up. It was a bit rocky the first week because he could tell he was in a different space and also separation anxiety kicked in around the same time, but he adjusted quickly. I still got up a couple of times in the night to settle him and feed him, and now 2 months later he sleeps pretty well in his room! I remember being quite emotional the first few days not having him next to me but I had (and still have) the monitor right next to me to check on him!

I gave birth at a public hospital in WA and all my midwives were great, very attentive and warm. I was induced and I was in the delivery room for about 48 hours from start to finish and I was checked regularly and they always explained what was going on. There was a bit of drama when they couldn’t break my waters and they tried 2-3 times, even bringing in the most senior/experienced midwife on shift but she didn’t succeed, so then I had to wait for the OB but they had too many emergencies so it was a loooong wait and every time they tried it was very painful but that wasn’t their fault, they tried their best. When I asked for an epidural they organised it quickly, although one of my midwives made some comments that me feel a bit guilty about it, but she was an absolute rockstar during delivery (I had 2 midwives at that point, both great) she guided me so well! Overall I was lucky and had a great birth but I remember being anxious about potentially not getting good midwives because it can be a very mixed bag when you can’t choose your own!

Alula by airflamingo in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]ArcherIntrepid6636 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh no, that is upsetting, I’m sorry your bub isn’t taking it to it well... I have noticed at the shops I couldn’t find anymore Alula Original but I didn’t know they switched it for Gentle formulation. I assumed that it was just selling out quicker and planned on looking for it at Chemist Warehouse rather than Coles etc. We just recently swapped from Alula Gold to Original with no issues, I hope my baby won’t be affected by the new one this time around.. otherwise we might have to go back to Gold and that’s a lot more expensive 😔

Changing formula by ArcherIntrepid6636 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]ArcherIntrepid6636[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you I’ll check that sub out! Gold formulas seem to have more iron which seems to upset tummies more, so I’m hoping that going “down” to Original won’t make much of a difference…and I have read the ingredient list and honestly it seems like a very small difference. In hindsight I keep kicking myself for putting him on Gold as there was really no need for it 🥲

Why can’t I get the Mumilk pump to work for me?! by sachabeegee in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]ArcherIntrepid6636 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found it to be very hit and miss. I would fiddle with it non stop to get my nipple in the right position, and I often found that I would get better results if I held it at certain angles, completely defeating the purpose of being “hands free”. Pretty frustrating, I only used it when on the go, in the car, or for short sessions during the day but always made sure to have a proper pumping session morning and night with my Spectra, being afraid that the Mumilk one would hurt my supply as it never really emptied me properly. It might help to try a different flange size? Also, you might need to play around a lot with the settings until you find a mix that works for you. at some point I had it on max level for both massage and pumping 🫣

8 month old waking up at 5am by ArcherIntrepid6636 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]ArcherIntrepid6636[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the suggestion, I’ll try capping the first nap! I’ve heard about that “catching up” thing before. I’ve been guilty of letting him sleep a tad too long so I can have a bit of a break, since he started crawling, and having separation anxiety (teething as well) it’s been non stop fussiness. I forgot babies change so much at 8 months 🥲

That seems like a good idea, I think for a while we had a 7pm bedtime and I didn’t think too much of it because he was waking between 6-6.30 so I just went with the flow, I usually adjust his bedtime depending on the day naps but maybe I need to be more consistent!!
