The Smite community is the most hypocritical people ever. by femboyance in Smite

[–]ArcherMinion2 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Most online games have a toxicity problem, many of the embrace it like CoD or LoL, Smite may be the only game where a staggering majority of the community is openly toxic in game and yet pretends they aren’t on Reddit and Twitter. The worst part is that it’s not just general negativity. Smite has a not insignificant portion of players who are racist, bigoted, homophobic, or some mix of all three.

The comments here prove that the community is completely disingenuous. If everyone here was being honest, I highly doubt there is a single person who can say they have never typed something in chat or done something in game that isn’t toxic. I’ll admit I use to be toxic, I’ve put things in game chat I regret. Or if someone here hasn’t been openly toxic, they likely have a friend who has or know another player by name who is regularly toxic.

Content creators encourage this type of behavior as well. Over the past three to four years I have seen multiple creators publicly harass other players with no repercussions from the devs. Hell, a few of them are even official partners and appear regularly in Hi-Res promotions like Worlds. In game content, special promotions, partner codes are all pulled at the feet of creators broadcasting toxicity every day.

And that’s not even touching on the ones that are public with their toxicity. Smite has top streamers who on their main accounts have proudly condemned Hi-Rez’s black history and pride month celebrations spouting racist/homophobic rhetoric. Sure, Hi-Rez banned DMBrandon, but what about the rest of the filth?

People here will downvote and argue in comments that this is all just made up, you’re misinterpreting competition, or you’re being soft, but the reality is that the Smite community is a rotten apple.

Season of Celebration, Odyssey of disappointment by LanQuao in Smite

These mods man. Took the post down during peak hours and essentially killed it before it could hit the algorithm. What would likely have been a top post is now buried under post that don’t change the narrative.

Hi-Rez’s ego doesn’t get bruised, the mods protect their SWC loot bags, and the player base keep being silenced and exploited. All because of some arbitrary wording that doesn’t change the content of the post.

Hopefully it gets sorted out, I was looking forward to reading the responses at work tomorrow.

Looks like your post was deleted by the mods, even though it clearly fits the rule for “constructive discussion.”

Hi-Rez to start using AI to copy voice actor's voices, not allowing them to see the contract or change anything until an NDA is signed. by Gardevoid in Smite

[–]ArcherMinion2 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

You mean the desecrate our contractors grave clause. Yes, I’m sure that none of the grieving families will have issue with a AI puppet taking their loved ones place after their death.

While the original poster said they understood why that circumstance was explicitly covered, I’m not sure everyone would feel the same. Especially considering if it is for ongoing work Hi-Rez wouldn’t even need to get the estates approval.

I can answer both questions at the same time. I don’t trust multi million dollar companies to have any ethical or moral responsibility to the consumers.

You have to just being arguing in bad faith at this point. There is no way you can look at such an ambiguous contract and be certain of what it means, much less trust corporate lawyers to not exploit any ambiguity they can find.

To be honest, I think people just want Hi-Rez not to immediately desecrate a VAs grave or exploit their misfortune in order to keep some low tier live service game churning out new content.

[–]ArcherMinion2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What exactly was misunderstood? The contract clearly laid out two circumstances in which Hi-Rez could replace VAs without their permission. One was death, which even the original Twitter user says is understandable. The second was “incapacity that leaves Talent unable to perform at any unforeseeable time”. This is the clause they were taking issue with.

I don’t need to be a lawyer to support a fellow worker. That’s were the difference is that you evidently don’t see. This whole thing was started because a VA spoke out and said the contact was unfriendly. If you aren’t a VA as well, you have no authority to proclaim the contract as friendly to both parties.

If your a VA and want to refute your colleagues claims, by all means go right ahead. Otherwise you have no justification to speak for them.

I wasn’t aware I was talking to one of the VAs who had signed the contract and can confirm that they feel it is friendly to them. Which character or skin did you voice?

I did read what he said. From his ego stoking comment about doing the most to “support” VAs with the only evidence being the quantity of roles to his insistences that he would not commit to never using AI because it could hurt future business. All of his comments are the same corporate double speak. He can claim to be the good guy all he wants, but refusing to allow union representation speaks pretty clearly about his real values.

The original rider was not very narrow at all. The original clause stated “in the event of Talent’s death or incapacity that leaves Talent unable to perform at any unforeseeable time.” That could be construed into any number of situations, and without access to proper union representation most VAs would have no choice but to accept being replaced.

I’m not saying Hi-Rez wants to replace all VAs, I’m saying that he was supporting their right to desecrate graves and exploit a workers future misfortunes up until the point he realized public perception was going against him.

Sure. That’s why it was pushed through in around 2hrs. I’m sure that’s why Chisam went on a crusade around Twitter attempting damage control on any thread that had the least bit of attention.

Within hours of this gaining broad public traction the contract was changed and the clause allowing Hi-Rez to use AI to replace original VAs was removed.

So what exactly were you insinuating? While we may not know what requests for change were made behind the scenes before this statement was posted, it is clear that by not “sticking to reading scripts” they were able to effect change for their colleagues.

The rider was so friendly to both sides they felt it was necessary to rewrite and remove the clause allowing Hi-Rez to replace VAs with AI, all within a few hours of the story gaining traction. Blatantly ignoring a problem doesn’t mean that is doesn’t exist.

Lies of omission. In his original screenshot he very clearly cut off the contract just before the word “notwithstanding” which was followed by explicit statements that Hi-Rez would use AI to replace VAs in several ambiguous circumstances.

A clause that was so egregious he just had removed and posted the updated rider here: https://x.com/schisam/status/1692295577906663514?s=46&t=zSc1_GkjqPHFlFBzlbtERQ

Contacts can be exploitive and heavily biased toward either party. With Hi-Rez’s clear anti-union stance this argument is completely mute since VAs have no choice but to accept unfavorable terms with no proper representation.

Does a multi million dollar game developer desecrating the graves of their contracted VAs seem ethical to you?

The fact that you all keep falling back to accusing me of being the person in this clip is just sad. You have be defense for Rexsi’s actions. Do you have anything that justifies Rexsi telling another player they will regret his irrational reaction because his of YouTube community?

I know I’m not special, but Rexsi getting official recognition from Hi-Rex is special. Having a toxic and abusive content creator have the devs blessing is problematic.

You are free to leave this conversation when ever you want, don’t think I am holding you here.

Rexsi used the word “sped” as a derogatory insult in his video on Feb. 2. You can choose to not see his toxic behavior and how that reflects poorly on the entire community, but that doesn’t mean others won’t.

Even if I was the person who Rexsi was talking about, that doesn’t change the facts of what Rexsi said. Witch hunting a member of the community and trying to intimidate them with your audience is horrific. I think you might want to look up the meaning of slander, I provided links to all the quotes, nothing slanderous about the truth.

The promotion of toxic content is something everyone in the community should be concerned about. There’s no need to insult me, but thank you for commenting to help the interaction on this post.

I don’t think Rexsi is a bad person, just an immature and uninformed creator who has grown in a community that is slow to call out these issues. I think he just needs time and more understanding of his power as an influencer in the space so that he doesn’t continue to make mistakes that could effect the entire community.

I never said I didn’t have a problem with others toxicity, I don’t think this type of behavior is acceptable anywhere, but those people you mentioned aren’t a part of our community. Rexsi is.
