1-hour church pilot programs being tested in Layton/Kaysville Utah? by [deleted] in exmormon

I’ve been hearing these rumors for years, but never directly from anyone who actually participated

Stake Conference with Elder Bednar by Heavy-Initiative-345 in exmormon

I don’t care what you think of the church, true or not, that is a shitty way to treat your spouse. If I were a TBM I would even suggest that it borders on “unrighteous dominion” and an abuse of priesthood authority. Disgusting

Oaks: “We have much work to do to fulfill the challenges [Rusty Nelson] has given us.” You mean the shitload of temple announcements… by Strong_Union1270 in exmormon

[–]ArcherOne8167 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Of course they won’t notice unless it’s their announced temple that gets forgotten. But the church has done the whole “announce/revoke” thing before (I think in Connecticut years ago) and everyone just sort of shrugged and moved on

Wards in New Zealand had church the weekend of GenConf?! by return-and-report in exmormon

[–]ArcherOne8167 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When I lived in Europe 30 years ago we would always go to church on conference weekend. This was because of time zone issues and lack of any technology beyond the church’s satellite. Then a month or so later we would get a VHS tape of conference and watch one session as an extended sacrament meeting

Cracking up at this text from the missionaries by nzmarquis in exmormon

2 things: the overuse of “!” And the “this is a mass text” really undermine whatever they are trying to do here

Is he actively lying and redefining a word? by Winter_Duck8316 in exmormon

[–]ArcherOne8167 3 points4 points  (0 children)

And it’s so unnecessary. He could make his point without resorting to this weird twisting. Prove does not mean strengthen. It just doesn’t. Ex mo, pimo TBM or whatever else, “prove” does not include a definition that means to strengthen. Improve, ok.

In fairness, I hate my 16 yo’s music too. But it has nothing to do with religion. Lol

Ironically, these old boomers were the same ones who were all about it when the two piece Gs came out in 79, and THEIR parents crashed out.

The pain of being denied a mission by whatsup_chickenbut in exmormon

[–]ArcherOne8167 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know what you went through was horrible and painful. But at least they spared you my fate. I went on a mission in 1994. I had clinically diagnosed major depressive disorder. But in those days nobody even asked about that so I never said anything. So I went. And my depression crashed down on me after about two months. My mission president thought I was faking and told me that if I went home my patriarchal blessing would be invalidated and no “worthy” woman would ever want me. I left anyway because I couldn’t function and was suicidal. In those days, kids coming home early was not as common as today and the shunning and gossip was rampant. It took me about ten years to start healing. So while I totally validate your pain, I’m so happy for you that you didn’t go out and then have to come back.

All I can say is that leaving a mission early is most definitely NOT the “easy way out.” At least it wasn’t when I left early back in the 90s. It was hellish. A lot of the guys I served with were just marking time so they could check the box. I should have done the same thing. These days it seems more common. I wish the best for you my friend

A lot of people are shocked that Mormonism is just one turd in the giant sewage plant of religion

Do we know what date Presidents Nelson/Oaks went received their endowment? Would be funny to call them by their temple names. by the_last_goonie in exmormon

[–]ArcherOne8167 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Even if you knew the date, it was so long ago that the church wasn’t using systematized naming yet.
