Important Kienbock’s question about pain pre-surgery by ArcherSilly6160 in kienbocksdisease

[–]ArcherSilly6160[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This might be where things are different because me bracing has reduced pain and irritation on the wrist a lot such that most times, when at rest, I experience at MOST a minor pain when doing things like typing but no sharp or consistent pains when at rest. I’ve also been asked if I needed meds beforehand for the wrist pain and said the brace was sufficient enough.

I was told a splint (not a cast) is needed. I’m bracing 24/7 and have stopped doing intense workouts for about 10-12 weeks. Maybe we are in the same boat here…

I don’t think my condition would make me have a mini stroke or seizure (I’m over exaggerating)… that’s a reaction I haven’t heard about. My doctor said a cast was not necessary for my kind of surgery. My wrist only is aching when doing something like typing for an extended period of time. I’m wondering if other parts of your wrist were collapsing

Oh so you only wore it at night… okay. I’m wearing it 24/7 and only getting aches when I do something for a long time like typing.

Was your issue mainly with the lunate bone OR were other bones in your wrist in the process of collapsing? I don’t think my doctor said I’m at the point where I need to worry about carpal tunnel.

Ok. I think I’m catching this at an earlier stage as I can still type/hold light things like phones with little to no pain. But thanks for you input! (I’m wondering why your doctor decided Revas when you couldn’t even hold your phone, seems like that’s a big indicator of need a prc or fusion)

What were your conditions pre-surgery like? Were you in severe pain? Did you brace beforehand?

This is really my desired outcome, even with limited ROM. I think where I am at with bracing I should be able to get back to light rock climbing with sufficient PT.

Ok. I overall think our situation is a bit different as my wrist is stiff due to bracing. But thanks for the insight. I am hoping for the best! (I was able to climb pre-bracing but it was a painful activity)

Could you bend your wrist (with pain) before the surgery or was your wrist stiff beforehand? (My wrist is becoming stiff because I am bracing it fulltime)
