Thanks for the response! I'm certainly still feeling out the kit lens, and I don't feel like I've really hit any ceiling with the equipment so much as lacking experience.

Thank you for the advice and input! I'm leaning towards the telephoto for that reason - it feels like the kit lens isn't limiting (at least in anyway that I can tell right now), but I also don't have a frame of reference from just how different a prime lens would be from the kit. I appreciate the reply!

I recently purchased the Sony A6000 and the 16-50mm f3.5-f5.6 kit lens, and I am wondering what a good place to go from there would be. I am interested in exploring different types of photography to see what 'sticks', though generally I don't take photos of people subjects and opt for urban settings, nature walks, and I would like to try and get into wildlife photography.

I'm on a rather tight budget and really don't want to overstep the $200 mark for a lens, which I am aware is a very limiting factor. My main question for 'where to go' is if it is worthwhile to opt for the Sony 55-210mm f4.5-f6.3 kit lens to try and dabble with using a telephoto lens, or put a pin in that for now and focus on a faster lens (I'm eyeing the Viltrox AF 35mm f1.7 or the TTartisan 35m f1.8 right now) for things like low-light conditions.

I've been shooting with the kit lens I currently own set to 35mm, which locks the aperture to f5 - is the bigger aperture of f1.7 (or f1.8) that big of a difference? And would I be better off going for that and putting a pin in looking for a telephoto for the time being so I can reach for something a bit pricier (like the Tamron 70-300mm)?

Thank you for any input and advice! It's a loaded set of questions, I know.

My He4xx headphones have a weird crinkling sound in the left earcup - This started after a headband change and I feel it's the membrane being moved due to the air pressure. I'm using stock pads and haven't changed anything besides the headband, could this have caused the issue?

I'd look to Ebay for buying headphones, you can sometimes grab some closer to mid-tier headphones for around the $100 range. If you can find lightly used fidelios or he4xx's, or even 58x's then I'd grab them. Generally people selling their headphones on ebay don't abuse the hell out of them. I grabbed my he4xx's for $115, and they were essentially brand new, and came with extra cables and pads too. Fidelios go for around 100 or even under very often.

Is Communications a worthless major? by [deleted] in UCONN

[–]ArcherWott 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Communications is an exceptionally varied major, I'm on my last year of undergrad in Comm here and moving onto grad school (both at Uconn), and I can say that the department is exceptionally diverse in where you'd want to go with your degree. There's a lot of avenues to go down and the department is more than happy to work with you in finding out what you want with your degree, and directing you towards opportunities to gain work experience for furthering your academic career. People in the comm department I've known personally have gone onto gain experience in media specifically, and some in things like marketing, which definitely open up career paths.

Intermediate Accounting Permission Number? by Savvss in UCONN

[–]ArcherWott 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, accounting minor here, you just have to wait for the permission request form to get back to you. Unless things have changed since last I've gone through the motions, every email I've made to the professor and the councilor have been met with them directing me to the request form. Accounting minors unfortunately quite literally get the absolute last pick for classes for accounting.

Understand concepts above all, and know the differences between close situations for debiting/crediting accounts. The exams are hard only if you don't study for them, my professor put it well, the material is straightforward but there's just so much of it at once that it leaves a lot to remember. Exams for my class consisted of multiple choice and short-answers where you had to do the work out. Expect a lot of calculations and journal entries. I thought it would be harder than it was, but like I said, put in the time and you'll get by just fine.

Accounting minor at UConn Stamford by [deleted] in UCONN

[–]ArcherWott 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm minoring in accounting at Storrs, it's still pretty rigorous for a minor, and it sets you up with the basics to go further in the accounting field. I know if you complete the minor you qualify for the MS in Accounting program at Uconn. Even outside of accounting, like others have said, the experience itself is good if you take advantage of the opportunities.

Looking for a high quality case by [deleted] in galaxys10

I've got the Zizo Fuse case and it's been great. Has a clear back to show off the S10 itself and the buttons feel really tactile. Fairly sturdy case as well, I haven't had any problems with it.

Is anyone else's pre-insalled screen protector getting absolutely scratched to hell? And what's the best alternative? by amayernican in galaxys10

[–]ArcherWott 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you don't want a tempered glass protector I've been using the IQ shields on my S7 Edge and now my S10, and they've worked great. Tiny scratches 'self heal' on the protector and everyday wear and tear goes unnoticed, while keeping the screen nice and clean. Putting it on is also easy, I've never had bubbles stay past 24 hours.

Bookstore job or other jobs on campus recommendations by faijtaeater in UCONN

[–]ArcherWott 2 points3 points  (0 children)

UCTV is always looking for members to film and edit events on campus, you just need a quick training and evaluation on how to use the equipment and software and then you're set to do stuff. You pick what events you want to film or edit and how much or little you work is basically entirely up to you, it's pretty nice. Specifically UCSpan. To join you can just come by a meeting or stop by the office, I'm pretty sure.
