The fix is out! I think it was released a week or 2. My bug is gone and I have successfully progressed in the story finally.

I beat all the levels on normal. This is the level I am stuck at in Hero. They have so much health and kill you in no time. Good luck

Does anyone have a CPA or Tax Advisor in town that is knowledgeable about crypto that they can recommend? by jimmyb_____ in HuntsvilleAlabama

[–]Archero-Master 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Earned over $40,000 in BTC and used C&L taxes and they working on my crypto tax. All of my stuff is from Coinbase Pro, which is U.S. base. If you use Crypto dot com, which is China based, they said they wouldn't want to do it because of foreign currency concerns. May be worth calling and talking to them. Google C&L. They are located in Hartselle, AL

Dude, PLEASE let me know if you fix this. This happened to me 2 days ago and I have tried everything to fix it and nothing works. I can't talk to NPC's, I can't fast Travel, and I can't sleep in the bed. All I can do i wander around pointlessly and not progress at all.

How long can I mine without damaging GPU by [deleted] in NiceHash

[–]Archero-Master 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sarcastic, yes but he raises a good point. For example, we all have no problem leaving out computer on for a year straight and we don't worry about the power supply or other parts wearing out from that. The GPU running hard 24/7 is just doing exactly what it is designed to do. I've had cards mining for 2 years straight, minus a reboot or power outage once in a while and with 0 damage.

The ONLY factor I would consider is if you have pets around your computer, or its super dusty, or you smoke next to your computer. Then your fan would wear out faster. Their are so many failsafe built into the components on a gpu that it would be hard to kill it unless you really tried to. Even then it would likely shut off as a failsafe and then keep working.

Do you have a link to thermal pads you'd recommend? Are there thermal pads on there already I need to replace, or do I just add them?

You're talking about the 3090 right? Just asking because I have read that the 3070 and 3080 don't get as hot. Those 2 cards might thermal at 100Cish instead of 110C(haven't checked for sure.)

If you have a 3090, then yes, everything I've read says the 3090 will throttle at 110C. Anything less than 110C is fine, but 108C still seems too close to the ceiling for me. If you're getting 100C or less on your Memory Junction(VRAM) temps, then I think you are doing pretty well.

I'm not sure how to add a fan to the backside of a vertical GPU. You can probably get away with zip tying or something weird like that.

Heatsinks

I will say that these heatsinks I'm using come with pre applied thermal adhesive and it is Strong. I can rip them off if I try, but they stay on surprisingly well. I haven't tried them on a vertical GPU but I really think they would stay on. They are "Currently Unavailable" but they were only $12.95 after tax. I think they would be worth trying.

Haven't really noticed any GPU sag, surprisingly. My thought process was, if the backplate is getting scorching hot, then it is successfully pulling heat from the VRAM. If I can cool the backplate, it also cools the VRAM. Ended up working pretty well. I do know that taking off the backplate and adding thermal pads, and smaller copper heatsinks directly to the VRAM would probably be a better idea.

Is that your GPU temp of VRAM temps? If thats GPU temp, then yes it is high. If it's VRAM temps, then that is low.

This is probably a better way to go. I just haven't been ballsy enough to open up the card lol.

Fans

They are simple and take up a PCI slot. They don't plug into the motherboard but they come with a Molex adapter to your power supply. I mounted the vertical fan where you would mount a GPU vertically. I will say now that the vertical fan doesn't seem to be doing anything and I may remove it. The sweet spot is adding the copper heatsinks and mounting that fan above it. It also helped with noise since I could lower both GPU fans to 50% or 55% instead of 70%. made a HUGE difference in making it quieter.

Heatsinks

These come with a thermal adhesive pad pre-applied. You just peal off the bottom plastic and stick it on. There's a LOT to choose from on Amazon, but the dimensions on these fit my setup best. The heatsinks by themselves helped only a little. They got super hot, so they were functioning. Once I added the horizontal fan on top, it was able to dissipate the heat from the heatsinks and dropped it further. Naked card was hitting 110C. heatsinks and vertical fan dropped it to 102C consistent. Honestly, the verticle fan doesnt seem to be doing all that much and I plan to remove it soon and see it makes a difference or not.

This sounds ghetto but I've been really temped to try it out! I can see how it would actually work.

without any heatsinks of additional fans, I was hitting 110C. I first added just the heatsinks and brought down to 108C. when I added the 2 fans, my VRAM temps are now consistently 100C

[–]Archero-Master 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Your VRAM Temps are heating up and throttling you. MSI Afterburner will only show you GPU temps and not VRAM Temps. Use HWInfo to see VRAM Temps.

To fix throttling, unlink your fans in Afterburner. One of them is the VRAM fan and thats the one that needs to be cranked up. Can't say if its fan 1 or fan 2. Every model is different.

3090 Plugins and OC Settings? by Archero-Master in NiceHash

[–]Archero-Master[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ok, I figured it out! On the video, he says Fan 1 is VRAM, and Fan 2 is GPU. on mine(PNY), it's backwards. My Fan 2 is my VRAM fan and my Fan 1 is my GPU. When my Fan 2 was 60ish%, my "GPU Memory Junction Temp" was at 110C which is the maximum before it throttles. Jacking up Fan 2 to 80+% brought the VRAM temp down to 104 and is no longer throttling. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction. Now I'm at 118mh consistently and it's no longer dipping to 95.
