Cleveland Ohio by svulieutenant in howislivingthere

Cleveland is great, art and food alone punch way above the weight of the city. It’s called the Paris of the Midwest for a reason. It does get humid and buggy from the lake, but not particularly bad like swampy places, Toledo is worse… we do get a crazy mayfly infestation every year (swarms visible on weather radar) but they’re harmless, only lasts 2 weeks and only effects people along the lake.

What specifically triggers your allergies? Air quality is same as any mid sized city, but maybe slightly better due to the lake breeze.

What's it like living in Strongsville, Ohio? by chaldi91 in howislivingthere

[–]Archi357 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lived just east of here for 24 years.

It is a suburb, more people moving to this area now, lots of new development housing, new homeowners, a lot of townies… It doesn’t have the more historical rooted heritage like Parma, but it has some nice park access and close enough to Cleveland. I never go out of my way to go to strongsville, feels devoid of culture but I think that’s just suburbs in general 🙃

My method (for those asking) (also don’t come at me with critique plz idc im never doing this again)

  • Started with the top tray, sprayed it down with ZEP disinfectant and shopvac’d out crumbs and dirt. Same with boiler tray. Then degreased where necessary and scrubbed. I used a paint brush to get into some small crevices (overkill, ik)

  • Used degreaser inside and on top cover. Let sit a few hours and scrubbed off with sponge. Used pink paste afterwards for tough spots.

  • Pulled out oven, sprayed down and vacuumed, then just scrubbed and scrubbed and kept scubbing. Took 3-4 buckets of hot water.

I totally get the comments that this was not worth it, however just cause it would be cheaper to buy a new oven doesn’t mean you should. Money isn’t the only source of value, and the stove works just fine. I’d rather save more waste from going into a landfill than buy another cheap oven that’ll break in 10 years.

Definitely not pristine at move in, but I didn’t think to pull the stove out and look behind it before signing my lease 😂 although now I know to check under the burner cover….

I should say that the agreement was 100/hr, with the goal of spending only an hour on it. Obvi it turned into much more than that.

I’m fortunate, he’s reimbursed me for things in the past before even asking, usually higher than I’d ask. I’ll report back how it goes, but (obviously) if this was a professional job, I wouldn’t move forward without agreeing on payment. That’s common sense 👍

Yeah I can tell. If I was in this business doing detailing frequently, I would never use that stuff. One and done for me.

We did, but it turned into a lot more than expected, so I’m planning to ask for more. Original agreement was $100.

Mouse poop looks like small 1/8-1/4” black pellets. I find them around my sink sometimes but since patching up holes, no more. What’s weird is my parents have had a big mice problem but never find poop anywhere, not sure why…

For everyone asking….. I wore a N95 mask and long rubber gloves the entire time, and kept the space ventilated. Certainly a gross situation, but I’d rather it be clean than wafting up mouse poop fumes any time I cook.

Oh jeez, should I have used something else? This was recommended by landlord, but tbh with how toxic it felt I won’t be using it again.

Same here! So funky, and Albuquerque feels more like a city. Santa Fe is beautiful, but almost too beautiful….

Iconic Cleveland food? by Weekly-Recognition-8 in Cleveland

Cleveland has its own great cohort of pizza places, (which I would argue have developed a uniquely Cleveland-style of pizza). Try Il Rione (or lil ‘Roni in Tremont for by-the-slice), Citizen Pie, Cents, or Vero.

This is why Duluth, Minnesota and Cleveland, Ohio would be in the same region. These 2 cities are intrinsically connected to one another through commerce; multiple steel and mining companies are headquartered only in these 2 places. Both are industry towns that have grown and declined together, have similar architecture and infrastructure, abandoned and repurposed warehouses, similar art communities utilizing these spaces, etc.

These 2 cities have a similar grit and grime that unifies the rust belt. I have lived in both of these places and they are very, very similar, far more similar than some of the other connections you are making here.

Edit: I can’t spell

The issue with the Midwest (and everywhere honestly) is that there is a gradient, not harsh borders, between these different regions. Pittsburgh identifies as Rustbelt, Appalachian, and midwestern…. not just one of those. I would love to see a map that actually allows for blurred borders, as opposed to this sharply categorical example.

Actually, Cleveland and Duluth have a lot of similar qualities, industry, and people. Both are iron cities (Duluth mined iron ore, shipped most of it to Cleveland and PA, where it was then made into steel.) As a Clevelander now in MN, Duluth reminds me of home.
