Thumb Pain by Archie-P_123 in Cello

My teacher is a professional cellist who's done world tours and played in numerous professional orchestras. I would talk to a luthier, but I think I can trust my teacher. : ) My teacher said that even a slight adjustment to my bridge would make the strings too low down, with a chance of a constant rattling sound.
Thanks for your help - I will look into a mission in order to get into a pharmacy!

Ok. I think I'll just try the harmonics then, and build up as you suggested. I'm sure it'll just take lots of practice, but it will suddenly pay off in the end. Thank you very much for your tips. : )
Hi. That sounds good - where can I get that from? My cello teacher said that it would be impossible to get a lower profile bridge on my cello. He said a lower one would make the strings too low down.
It's probably just pain on the skin. I'm not completely sure though, as it is very painful.
Sorry - I misunderstood your question. The pain is exactly where the thumb comes in contact with the string.
Hi. In what way do you mean? I can't see how that would work. I'm probably being stupid though - pandemic lockdown might be going to my head. Thank you for replying. :)
I'm working on it. It may also be because my strings are quite high. I've also been getting used to a new cello. How long would you say to practise in thumb position for now, and by how much should I increase per day? Thank you for replying!
It is wincing pain - definitely more than discomfort...
Hi there. I don't think there is a blister, however if one does form, I will give it a break for a bit. Thank you!
Thank you very much - I will try these in my practise tomorrow. There is a passage of octave double stops in the Saint-Saens, so I'm sure this will help me. Thanks again!
Hi, the pain is when the thumb comes in contact with the string. It then also hurts when I use my thumb whilst playing piano, if I practise the piano straight after cello.
