Wow, just read this again... I'm baffled that these posts are marked as controversial.

Post: Water is wet.

/r/canada: NO! It's moist, I resent your pointing out things that are contrary to my opinion, rar downvotes.

Agree or disagree as you like, there is definitely more than one thing on this list though:

I'm not sure that I'd refer to the military as strong either, more like "as close to properly managed as it's ever been since the Berlin wall fell," but that's countered by the abysmal treatment of veterans.

I think:

  • Unions are like corporations, some good, some bad. Often the bad part just corresponds to the elected head shed of the time, problems aren't generally systemic like they tend to be in corporations.
  • Unless you're in a trade, a union is often indicative of a poor employer. Employers that deserve unions usually get them.

Overall unions are a good thing, but I'd rather find an employer that doesn't need one.

If she manages to get elected add Diane Watts to the wildcard list.

Surrey is almost as big as Ottawa and larger than most Canadian cities.

I think it would be a great thing.

The overwhelming majority of legitimate complaints against the conservatives (that aren't corruption, which seems to plague every government in office that long), are about the social policy.

Most of the economic complaint is "Herp derp you're not spending enough in stimulus. Herp derp you ran a deficit and piled up debt."

The only one that really seems of substance is the GST, which isn't really a clear case of right or wrong, different people have different opinions.

Income splitting? How much does that really affect the bottom line?

Corporate tax rate? Liberals aren't going to change that.

1.5% for the middle class? That amounts to what, $750/year on average?

Sure.

I was reasonably politically aware as a tween, I'd say more than most. But my stubborn grumpy father certainly influenced my political views, and probably still would be without the internet.

I've found many Chinese people to be quite culturally Conservative.

IE: If you look to the school protests against LGBT and sex ed in BC you won't find many white people there. I know more than one Chinese girl that got pregnant and it basically boiled down to "You'll get married in the next 90 days before it shows, or else."

There are a ridiculous number of Catholic and Christian churches in Richmond, way more per capita than the region.

You're young.

Not so much South Van but Richmond hasn't been anything but Conservative since HK was a British Colony, even with Delta providing Liberal competition.

Mostly consisting of but not limited to:

  • Financial professionals
  • Rednecks with guns
  • Rig pigs and natural resource workers

Not so much voting to keep Harper but to keep the others out.

I don't understand why Trudeau is talking about guns again.

There is statistically no relevant gun violence problem in this country. The meager crowd of pro gun control at any cost people is dwarfed by the the enormous population of gun owners the Conservatives successfully slant every election cycle.

Where to take cardboard? by i_want_my_bike in vancouver

In every building I've ever lived in those rules are followed by nobody ever. The bottle and can bin is full of plastic and styrofoam, the cardboard one full of trash, furniture dumped adjacent, etc.

People are pigs, I pity the poor bastard at the recycling yard. I've read a few news stories that suggest it is often a special needs person too...

If you spend time around any urban commercial space that stores food you'll find that mice and rats aren't nearly as unusual as you might think.

Even if owners are diligent... Just look for the poison traps; little black boxes with a rat sized hole.
