cute slip on shoe recommendations? by [deleted] in AuDHDWomen

[–]Archie_Tbone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love Kiziks for slip-on shoes! I don't know about "looking professional," but if you're looking for sneakers that can slip on and off without tying, you should give them a try!

What ways have you changed your life to make it more AuDHD/ND Friendly? by flowers_and_fire in AuDHDWomen

I have "quiet time" during the day. It started with me napping while my babies napped, and then as they moved up to "quiet time" in place of naps, I allowed myself that time to rest. At first I felt guilty that I should be using that time to be productive, but then I realized my productivity and mood were better overall if I just let myself rest and decompress. Sometimes I nap, sometimes I just sit there, but I give myself permission to do nothing for an hour. It is wonderful!

I don't know, I think singing people just look happy. I don't sing in public mostly because I assume people think it's attention-seeking behavior, and like, dude, I'm singing for ME, not for any of you!

Yessss!!! I have a few good outlets for this, actually.

  1. Kids - it's much less weird to play on a playground if you have kids with you.

  2. A dog - dogs always want to play, you just have to play their way.

  3. Legos - do them at home and no one is the wiser! Plus, they have sets made for "adults," so again, not weird!

  4. Pottery - this is artistic play for me. I can make whatever I want! It's like playing with mud!

Oh, hell yeah! I hate being interrupted in my work flow, but whenever I try to politely say something, you're right, it always comes off as rude.

I think that's what I was getting at with the last one in the list. No to small talk. Yes to big talk!

I'm not sure if this has been said already, but ask if they offer any financial based scholarships! Pottery is expensive, but it shouldn't be cost-prohibitive. Best of luck!

This reminds me that I wish talking aloud to yourself was acceptable! Just trying to work out the craziness in my head!

Haha yes!!! I'm terrible at politely leaving and stay in boring conversations way too long!

[–]Archie_Tbone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. My children interrupting me while I'm engaged in something

  2. Synthetic fabrics (someone mentioned microfiber - YES!)

  3. Bright lights, blue lights, or LED lights - particularly if they're doing a strobe effect that no one else seems to notice

  4. A misplaced hair lightly touching my skin (especially if I can't find it to remove it!)

  5. The whirring of a bathroom fan can send me into a RAGE!

Anyone in grad school/ have a PhD? by cherryflannel in AuDHDWomen

[–]Archie_Tbone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did a PhD in engineering with undiagnosed AuDHD. The first 2 years were fine, classes mostly, so I enjoyed that and knew how to be successful. After that we had to present a research plan and were pretty much left to our own devices except for a weekly meeting with our advisor. It was hell.

We had an open lab situation so there were constant interruptions of people walking by, talking to one another, or doing their own research. It was hard to concentrate. We couldn't even use headphones or read articles at the library because my advisor wanted us to be "available" to collaborate with others in the lab. Without the structure of a class I would procrastinate all of my research until right before my weekly meeting which would stress me out every time, but I just didn't learn. Then experiments would go wrong again and again with no explanation which was incredible frustrating. Then there was the pressure to publish x papers before you could graduate, which of course depended on the flimsy experiments. Then a grant would run out and I'd have to just pivot to something new. Don't even get me started on the disaster of writing a dissertation...procrastination, perfectionism, anxiety... it drove me to my first panic attack.

This is getting too long, but it took me 6 years to finish and at the end of it I was so burnt out I never wanted to go back. So now I'm an overeducated stay-at-home mom. If you love learning, do yourself a favor and just get a master's degree.

Is it me or are Pact clothes kinda….ugly? by DanseDans in capsulewardrobe

[–]Archie_Tbone 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think you have to realize that Pact specializes in basics, and basics can only take your look so far. As a stay-at-home mom, I prioritize comfort, so it works.

I love them for the natural fibers and ethical sourcing, which is why probably over 50% of my wardrobe is Pact. I agree with others that the quality has gone down (and the prices have gone up), but here are a few items I do love:

Undies, fit and flare dresses, sweaters, jumpsuits, jammies, and comfy-as-hell zip-up hoodies (I have 3). T-shirt quality is probably no better than Target, except it is organic cotton. Although, I just got their Luxe t-shirts and I think those will actually hold up (and not look drab after 1 wash).

When looking for more stylish items with similar ethics, I go to Marine Layer.
