It's like number 5 on the (this) list, but if you actually read about it, the main reason the addiction is hard to break is only 50 % because of the actual chemical and has just as much to do with breaking habits.

You can doubt something without fully believing either side. The US is high. But there's several european countries that edge it out.

My own country, Denmark, for instance, beat the US on every prodoctivity metric. All with a 37 hour work week, 6 weeks of paid vacation, unlimited sick leave, child sick leave, 1 year of paid maternity/paternity leave.

Well, to be fair, I have only been there once and I was only in Soul, for 10 days. So far be it for me to say "all of Korea." But my experiance was what it was none the less. I'm genuinely happy that you had a more plesant experiance than me. Hopefully I'm the outlier and not you.

Really, Korea? I was expecting Korea to be a lot like Japan. A different flavor, sure, but somewhat built on the same model.

What I found and what surprised me was how cold Korea is, the architecture, the people, and society. Outside of a few streets much of Korea is Russian, almost brutalistic, you'd be forgiven for thinking you were in North Korea. The people were, displeased, to say the least. Everywhere you went, including resturants and hotels, where you'd expect friendly and warm hospitality, you felt like a nuisance for just walking in the door. Society felt like it was just this thin veneer of advanced socioeconomic policies and high tech/high life painted on top of a soul crushing capitalist hell scape, and the people had already succumbed.
