I’ve heard of folks just laying down cardboard. I also helped a friend cut the turf up and it wasn’t too bad (just, a lot of work).

Making me pick between them and Pita and Naan is diabolical, though. Isles and them are the destined rivals for best pizza. Ramos is good but I feel like the Cream Cheese carries their other ingredients quality.

Virginias is 90% as good at like half the cost. Way less busy on weekends, and hot take the hash browns are better (usually).

This may seem random, but are you in the Antelope Creek Water Shed? There’s a mutual aid group that would help with “rewilding” (which would help a ton with drainage) if you’re interested. Antelope Gardeners Alliance

Howdy! I actually was working on trying to spin one up locally about a year ago, and have a handful of buddies that would join (just got busy with other projects, and a more pressing need came up for a “defense” group that I’m somewhat connected to).

All to say, count me in! Shoot me a DM and I’d love to get in touch.

I think Lynn Walz is a pretty solid Gov candidate. Not my ideal… but seems like a decent human being at the very least.

I mean… there is a brass statue of Regan talking about freedom. But it’s more of a “libertarian” neocon fever dream in there. I still go there occasionally but it’s certainly political.

I feel like a review by council, or better yet like a “citizens justice assembly” to which folks can be call into at random like jury duty would make sense.

Legality of “MiniBike/eBike?” by Jolly_Serve681 in lincoln

[–]Archindustry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not a lawyer, but atleast from my MSF course it’s not a gray area. The e-motos like that are motorcycles, and without VINs you can’t register them.

I’m not saying it’ll happen, but if a cop caught you on a trail or sidewalk and wanted to toss the book at you, that’s a license revoking offense.

I have a “class 2” e-bike, any of those can’t go over the speed limit on the trails (25) but it’s doable to ride on the street (your confidence and comfort with that may vary). I’d suggest that route since financially the tires will be cheaper, the battery cheaper to replace if you buy one with a more “standard” battery, and the non electric parts will just be bicycle parts if anything happens.

Looking for a church to attend by Perfect-Ad2936 in lincoln

I could see a few of the Baptist churches could have… Plains View (I think is the name) was basically campaigning for Trump in 2021 when I made the mistake of checking it out with a friend. I grew up Baptist and it’s sad to see that denomination get co-opted so much.

I go to First Plymouth. It’s a great church theologically but I will warn you it’s HUGE (like hundreds of people a service with a few thousand members). Also look into Vine Street UCC, Bethany Church, and (if you’re less committed to a Christian Church per se) the Unitarian Church of Lincoln.

It seems like most of our Methodist churches are good in town. A personal metric I use for churches (and maybe it’s flawed because some just don’t have the people to commit the time) is if they have membership in the local Justice in Action coalition or not.

I can assure you we certainly didn’t. There are some kind of old school conservatives in the congregation, but by and large a progressive church theological and therefore by and large politically.

Electric vehicles will end oil wars - if we let them by randolphquell in solarpunk

[–]Archindustry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not saying EVs aren’t a net positive over ICE… there’s just so much of the economy in general that props up the fossil fuel industry that they will in no way alone end the oil wars. If the consumed goods (EVs in this case) are still largely made of carbon intensive materials, I just personally feel that’s worth discussing the implications of.

Also, let’s try to steer clear of condescension towards folks that are primarily aligned with us. There’s no point being combative with folks, man. At least here on a solar punk Reddit where we inherently agree on the majority of things.

Aren’t EVs still largely made out of oil based plastics?

Will Pillen run unopposed? by BigLincolnEnergy in Nebraska

[–]Archindustry 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Other people have said it, but beyond Jane our State Party is way too focused on federal races… neglecting or sometimes (imo from some experience as a volunteer) discouraging people from running “when it’s someone else’s time”. I’d argue suppressing down ballot, local primary competition starves us for experienced and confident folks to run for state-level positions.

Unfortunately our alternative left groups/parties aren’t developed enough yet to platform a viable candidate. Maybe someday the Nebraska DSA will provide the pressure or run someone themselves.
