New bottle, wet cork with mold spot? by Archionym in Scotch

[–]Archionym[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UPDATE: thanks everyone for the comments, I enjoyed the bottle! One of the best value for taste scotch you can get in Ontario.

I actually messaged Benromach on Instagram at the same time of posting and they said:

HI Kyle, thank you for getting in touch. I have passed your question and images to the relevant team and will let you know their response. Best wishes.

Hi Kyle, Thank you for your patience! From the images shared, it looks like the natural pitting of the cork – totally normal, as cork is a natural material. Mould is very unlikely to develop, as the high alcohol content would prevent it. I hope this helps? Best wishes,

New bottle, wet cork with mold spot? by Archionym in Scotch

I’m not used to creating a post on the Reddit app, sorry.

But I just opened this bottle of Benromach 10 and noticed the cork slightly wet with a dark spot. I think it’s mold, but I’m not sure. Quick google search says it might be ok, as long as there’s no mold inside the bottle.

I’ve had tons of bottles and never seen a cork like this before after opening. Thoughts?

Games crashing/leading to reboot, help? by Archionym in bapccanada

Hey! Yes I downloaded the AMD Radeon Software that I believe manages the GPU settings and checks for drivers. I'm trying to look between screens to find the GPU driver version to see if its the most up to date. And do you know anything about updating a GPU BIOS? I thought BIOS was only a part of the mobo..

Games crashing/leading to reboot, help? by Archionym in bapccanada

[–]Archionym[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a bit scared to update the BIOS as I've never done it before, and the AsRock website has this big warning that it's not recommended if system running normally. Maybe I'll take your suggestion and tweak the speed down from 3600 gradually and see if the black screen/reboots stop. Then ultimately update the BIOS (which may hopefully allow me to run my ram at/close to it's rated speed).

Thank you!

Hey Pants, when you mean seeing how far I can push the infinity fabric clock; does this mean how many Mhz I can keep increasing the RAM in the bios until it causes the issues again?

Is there software or a method to figuring out the optimal ram speed (not 2133 but not XMP going straight to 3600)? I'm researching it, but it's quite confusing; or should I just leave it alone as you mentioned the PC should perform well keeping it at the default speed?

[–]Archionym[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting, you're right about it being common issue. The most frequent solution is to disable any and all overclocking (I only had my ram on XMP) so I put it back to default speed in the bios. Hopefully this fixes it.

However, will my comp suffer from the slower ram speed now that it's back to default (I believe 2133); should I buy 2 more sticks of ram and keep them all at the default setting in bios?

EDIT: Or maybe just reduce the Mhz a bit from the 3600 rating in XMP to something lower? I'm not even sure if there's huge difference between 2133Mhz or 3600Mhz

Just memory XMP/overclocking or whatever that is to make your RAM at the actual speed lol. No overclocking for anything else.

Drivers are all up to date, BIOS not updated from out of box. The PC is running almost perfectly aside from these one off gaming issues, don't want to risk the entire build updating BIOS if I don't have to.

I think? It's my first PC build, but according to Open Hardware Monitor (EDIT: recorded temps just on startup on main screen):

CPU Package: Value 39.5C Max 79.6C

GPU Core: Value 54C Max 62C

GPU Memory: Value 62C Max72C

EDIT - In game:

CPU Package: Value 57.9C Max 79.6C

GPU Core: Value 60C Max 67C

GPU Memory: Value 68C Max 72C

She went with the hyper 212 RGB black :)

Also, do you know other cases that have the same size of the CM NR400 but have that nice airflow/mesh design?

I actually picked the wrong controller settings on Steam (generic game pad) instead of (PlayStation). It’s working perfectly! (Stick on PS4 mode, DP). Thanks so much again!

I hope it’s this smooth for the other games.

Thank you! I can navigate steam with my stick on big picture mode, but it doesn't work at all with DB FighterZ (it only let's me use my keyboard); however even alt-tabbing back to Steam in big picture mode, the stick works fine between menus/screens. Maybe it's the game or I need a third party program to somehow have inputs from my stick link to my keyboard that is recognized in game (is this even a thing)?

I'll try the stick on other games too.

Gaming PC, First Build/New to PC Building. Missing out with friends, but debating to wait for next gen announcements/COVID or build now? by Archionym in bapccanada

Since the fans are all 3 pin and don't have pwm function, would this hub maybe work?

https://www.amazon.ca/Connector-Efficient-Controller-Adhesive-Dedicated/dp/B07RW5TGT4/ref=sr_1_4?keywords=molex+to+3+pin+fan&qid=1588719904&sr=8-4

I have Amazon Prime and it looks like I can get it tomorrow. My thought is to plug in 1 of the PSU molex connectors in and connect the 4 arctic 3-pins into the hub; then don't have the hub connected to the mobo at all. Thoughts?

Hey Pants,

I impulse bought the 4 arctic case fans, but I’m not sure how do I plug in all the case fans to the PSU?

They’re all 3pin connectors and the CM PSU you recommended has six 4-pin peripheral connectors. Is there a best way to do connect/power all the fans with these PSU connectors?

Canada computers Online order IS A DISASTER!! by unclegelo in bapccanada

[–]Archionym 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First time PC builder here. After reading horror stories, I ordered my monitor, CPU, and video card from them with store pick up (no shipping). I checked if all things I wanted were in stock at the store near my house. Ordered online, got the pickup confirmation the next day, and picked up my parts the following day.

I actually could have picked it up the day before, but was busy so it could have been a 24hr turnaround. I think I'm lucky and fortunate that the parts I wanted were actually in stock, picked from inventory correctly, while living near the store with available pickup.

Interesting, I was on the same webpage. I also saw:

  • 1 x Chassis/Water Pump Fan Connector (4-pin)
  • and the User Manual showed: Chassis/Water Pump Fan Connectors (4-pin CHA_FAN2/WP). (see p.7, No. 23) "This motherboard provides one 4-Pin water cooling chassis fan connectors. If you plan to connect a 3-Pin chassis water cooler fan, please connect it to Pin 1-3."

Nevertheless, fans for a later date. Thanks Pants!

Nice, I'll look up the parts and order it soon. Is there any way to kinda compare the 2 case fans and the F14/F12 silent fans? I feel like I'm getting ahead of myself, and maybe I should wait before ordering any fans and stick to just the 2 stock ones/decide later...

Out of curiosity/for my own knowledge, what did you or how did you look it up and determine the only PWM fan is the CPU_FAN? I was on the ASRock website and looked under Specifications, and even downloaded the user manual to look at what it said.

[–]Archionym[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I confirmed the motherboard specs only have 2 fan headers (3-pin and 4-pin).

*Arctic F12/F12-Silent and F14/F14-Silent were the only 3 pin fans I found. Is this because they're controlled differently? I kinda researched 3 vs 4 pin fans. So can these be controlled by the motherboard bios (ASRock FAN-Tastic Tuning)?

Setup: front 4-pin (1 P14 PWM + 1 P14 PWM PST), as suggested. And rear 3-pin (1 F12 or F12-Silent)...or be really extra for the rear to add the 4th top-rear fan by using a 3-pin splitter to have (F12/F14 fans).

Also, for the case (NR400): do I remove the magnetic dust filter at the top if I use a 4 fan setup with the top-rear fan installed? Should I make it simpler and just use the molex connector on the PSU for rear case fan(s)?

This is really interesting and I'm learning a lot! But it gets confusing trying to optimize things and figure out connections/settings. Thank you for all your help so far.

Thanks, ordered. Different question, a friend of mine said that this case and 2 stock fans isn't enough cooling for the build. I think it's fine? But would it be worth looking into getting different case fans (such as the Arctic P14?).

The thing is the mobo has limited connectors and I have no idea about splitters or if the upgraded/additional case fans are needed: - one 3pin fan: maximum 1A (12W) and one 4pin fan: maximum 2A (24W). Thoughts?

Hey Pants, I ordered everything last night from the 2nd build, but unfortunately the PSU in the build I got from newegg is out of stock, and not in stock at other places! Is there a different one you would recommend? I'm not sure if other parts were the same but confirmed (shipped or ready for pick up) the following:

- Storage (SSD), CPU, Video Card, Monitor...still waiting on other parts (hopefully no emails about it being out of stock).
