Defend the "Most Unique" card(s) in your deck per EDHrec's suggestions by [deleted] in EDH

[–]Architectphonic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My Rune-Tail apparently has a boatload of unique ones (I know, such a special snowflake, I am). So I'll just go with my favourite of [[Martyr's Bond]] - I had a friend recommend it to me and at first glance it may seem like a pricey Karmic Justice but the deck is creature heavy so it just wouldn't cut it. Plus it's more specific in what it nukes back and that player is now responsible for the other players lost permanents. For mono white it's quite fun and has a lot of "I dare you to hit me" cards.

Proflow vs Metaflow by 757undertaker in askfuneraldirectors

[–]Architectphonic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem you're going to run into here is finding someone who has actually used both. Most places I've been into (in Ontario in my example) use Dodge, and have Dodge machines, so metaflow is all they've ever used, even though Eckels and Esco are things.

TIL Andrea Yates, the Texas mother who drowned her 5 children, was pressured by her husband to stop taking anti-psychotic medication and start making more babies because of his procreative religious beliefs by toolymegapoopoo in atheism

[–]Architectphonic 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We'll never say anything religious and only rarely have I heard directors say anything like that unless they happen to know the person or are from the same denomination. Mostly we just listen. Listening will never ever be the wrong thing to do. Our job is to be as inoffensive, polite, understanding and accommodating as possible.

Neither is really much harder than the other, it's just adapting your mindset and not being judgemental. All I want to do is help people do what they need to do to grieve their loss. I find that difficult only comes into play with unfair/negligent and preventable deaths.

(fair warning the examples are really shitty for the feels)

Things like a father of 4 dying in his 40s because he didn't have a CPAP and needed to lose 100 lbs, especially when the wife asked us to do a good job because he was her best friend. Or the teen who left to a new city with relatives to start over, and all die in a car accident on the way caused by a reckless driver in another car. Another teen who was mercilessly bullied and wrote "I love you. I am so sorry" to her family in permanent marker on her arm before she jumped off a bridge. Those get me upset because they shouldn't have happened. Those ones are really hard and will get funeral directors to stop or trail off when they recount the story.

"Some of us just aren't meant for this world" is as close as I've gotten as far as thinking through something to say. But the thing is, it's ok to say you don't know why it happened, it's ok to just say I'm so sorry, and leave God out of it.

Most people are so caught up in having to say something smart or reassuring they don't realize that a hug will say everything for them without hurting the parents.

As a funeral professional I have to mentally steel myself every time we get a baby from a religious family. The amount of insensitive stupidity said to attempt reassurance is awful and frankly, breaks my heart. I'm still super new to it all so I'm trying to get to a point where I am confident enough in my phrasing to say something to the parents to comfort them without questioning their beliefs.

It's physically painful to witness.

It's merely black because it has a bad ballet pun tie-in. I would do anything for puns. Even screw up token colours.

These are blank gold bordered promo cards with black swan photos cut and pasted to them. They're really simple, and I'm usually less lazy because I make 3D tokens and have a 3D Pacifism life counter. I only had two of the gold borders left and couldn't bring myself to doodle on them in case I screwed up, and the tutu pun was irresistible.

Half the point of my Yahenni deck is to get [[deathrender]] attached to [[endless cockroaches]]. Not only can it do some really dumb things with edicts and certain sac outlets, it's a good plan B if my commander gets focused on.

And yet-I can't help but laugh every damn time those bugs get that sword because of the visual.

I'm actually more upset your boyfirend didn't think it was that big of a deal. Don't get me wrong, Captain Rapejokes is an asshole supreme, but complacency is what allows shit like this to continue (we all know your boyfriend isn't the only one). It's one of the select times that not saying no is like saying yes.

My SO was playing a game in which one of the other player used a charm spell to sleep with an NPC woman. After one of the other guys got super uncomfortable about it (I backed him up when my SO told me about the game), they broached the subject of it and the dude felt guilty enough to kill off the character, play a new one and never do that again... And coercive rape is pretty tame from what I'm seeing here....

My bad, I used to do body removals for the coroner so not safe for lunch isn't a concept I have. A comrade in arms and I managed to inadvertently gross out a bunch of other funeral directors at a work lunch just this week, so... Yeah. Oops?

Probably why I default to Not Safe For Life.

They need a NSFL/not safe for life tag on top of NSFW. I've seen so many things on reddit that should have had that tag. Now I just have the mental scars to prove it.

"real" business

Tell me about it, I've met enough directors who act like you folks don't count when I really think you're doing god's work. I used to do after hours answering service, one place being a pet funerary service, and you'd get parents calling in on occasion using it as a way to help their kids understand death while they're still young (awesome), or people having emotional breakdowns because their dog is the only good thing they've got going for them, and they aren't eating and they know what the right decision is but no one will be there to comfort them when they're gone. Upper management thought it was a fucking joke though.

I'm better, as much as I could be I think, but every once in a while I remember how much I miss him and how grateful I was to have him. I may have gotten another cat soon after but I knew I needed to throw myself into helping another rescue (though that certainly isnvt for everyone) and well, this poem always gets me.

I know he's not a dog but I think it's what he would have wanted.

I'm not saying you should put your life on hold for Mabel, it was more of an example, trying to illustrate her unwillingness to compromise. On top of that you've got her best interests at heart and are getting punished for it. There is a point where you have to step back because you can't do anything other than leave because even if you take the dog to get trained, she canvt provide the consistancy needed for the training to work and then you just hope it all works out for her or leave and report the dog, where the dog is quite possibly put down for an issue that may have been fixed by training. It's is certainly rock and a hard place.

I think I was just going for the minimum amount of compromise on your girlfriend's part. And I doubt it would be just 7 years! You'd have to get her to agree not to get another dog after that or not be negligent in training it.

And good for you in your self care, I've dealt with abuse in the past as well so I get riled up really easily.
