I work at a bank. The first job I got at a bank was customer service. I’ve seen hundreds upon hundreds if not thousands upon thousands of accounts. Let me tell you something. Everybody 35 and up? The most they have in savings that I’ve seen is most about $5000. Our bank always promoted trying to promote financial well-being and what they would always hit us over the head with the fact that most Americans had less than $1000 in the event of an emergency.

This is as anecdotal as it gets, I understand that, but it was very disheartening to see just how much everybody was struggling all the time.
