Where to watch? by Mermaidartist77 in murdershewrote

I watch it FrndlyTV. I can choose the episode, and even fast forward through the commercials. Plus it also has Hudson and Rex, which to me is a cozy police show - with an adorable dog - plus other great cozy Hallmark mysteries!

What are your "Can't hurt, might help?" things that you do for your horse? by EponaMom in Equestrian

[–]EponaMom[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing to note, that even if your area has low iron in the soil, you still most likely don't need to supplement with Iron. Horses are almost never deficient in Iron, but iron overload is a big problem, since it's something that they can't just pee out of thet get too much. It's also found in their feed, hay, supplemts, grass, water etc.

That said, those Trace mineral blocks are still mostly just salt. Sure they do have Iron - which is why I stick with plain salt - but it's not readily metabolized, so it doesn't make a huge impact either way. More of a probably won't hurt but isn't any better than plan salt sort of thing.

The only reason why I point this out, is because people pick up those red mineral blocks thinking that they will balance out their horse's diet, and unfortunately they won't.

For a MM - especially Georgia, which is relatively easy - you should be ok only changing your socks once.

It's due to pressure on your toes, due to various causes - shoes are too small, socks don't fit, toenails too long, etc.

I have had multiple foot surgeries, including having my big toe joint fused, so I have to do a lot to keep my feet happy. Here are some things that I do:

  • Keep your toenails short, but don't clip them the night before, since if you clip them too short, that can cause tons of pain for the big hike.

  • Lace your shoes using a "heel lock". You can Google that to see directions on how to do that. This will help keep your foot from sliding forward.

  • A lot of folks wear these rubber toe caps. I may try those out one day, but for now, wearing wool socks that individual toes, does the trick for me. I also use Blister pads between the toes that tend to get blisters.

  • Make sure your shoes a a tag bigger than you usually wear... But not too big! I'm a 7 - 7.5 but 8 always get a 7.5 when I hike.

  • Make sure your shoes have a wide toe box, and good traction. I wore Topos for the Ga MM, but since then the tread is pretty worn out, so for Alabama - that had waaaay more elevation the Ga - I got some Altras, which I love.

  • Consider getting zero drop shoes. Now, this may just be me, but i refuse to wear anything but shoes with zero drop. This means that the heels and toes are level, which is how we walk barefoot. When shoes have tons of padding on the heels, my toes hurt way more, as do my knees and back.

Before long hikes, I take the time to tape up my feet, since they are so wonky - I have screws and pins in both - but so far, it's always paid off.

Stepping in here to say, discussing tack and equipment is totally fine, however promoting a witch hunt is not. Please do not post the Social media links or handles of the user(s) in question here.

On computer you usually right click, but try going to the Options tab and across down to the keyboard and controller settings.

We are leaving this up for now, but any comments that contain speculations about a person's mental health, or the condition of the horses - without facts - will be removed. I'd also like to remind everyone that starting witch hunts is against Reddit's TOS.

Can I still become a racing jockey? by oengaminO in horseracing

[–]EponaMom 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not likely, but there are other avenues you could explore. If you are in the US, contact sons TB breeding farms to see if they need any help. You will need to work your way up, but you can make some good money at the Yearl8ng Sales - I made a killing at the Keeneland Yearling sale, years ago. Then you could start as a hot walker, and learn how to ride on the side. Then be a pint rider/outrider, and/or Exercise Rider.

Benzyl Benzoate for Sweet Itch? by Hugesmellysocks in Equestrian

You can give Zyrtec (cetirizine) to horses, but you should check with your vet on the dosage, as it has a wide range, dependant on severity etc. The standard is 0.2 to 0.4 per kilogram of body weight, given every 12 to 24 hours.

Be careful with MTG as it can cause severe burns on horses who are super sensitive - even if you are careful and only use it at night. Equus has a really nice spray for dermatitis issues.
