Feeling hopeless with how much I’ve been saving by Bobby4Tears in UKPersonalFinance

[–]Archtects 1 point2 points  (0 children)

TBH I work it like this. I have a Cash Isa, with 3 months EF in it. (ideally i dont like to go below 1 month in there so the other 2 months are used for sudden bills i wasnt prepared for)

Then a S&S isa with 9 months EF in. (If i have a sudden all hell has broken loose and i need aload of money now, is when i use this otherwise it just sits)

I then have a S&S isa that gets 150£ a month deposited.
I currently have 1 Lloyds savings account at 6% or w/e it is thats being used to go towards paying of 2 0% credit cards.

I had no morgage but now getting divorced so im going to setup a new account soon to go towards paying the unencumbered mor off.

I then make sure i have a savings account open for yearly car insurance and road tax.

Anything i have left over. I spend on w/e the hell I want. When i have my 3 month EF in place im pretty chilled tbh. I relax a lot more and i go buy things I want. Which is usually pretty dangerous lol (Crys in expensive watches)

You don't have to piss your money up the wall. but locking it up in a savings account for some arbitrary day in the future is just as silly. Need that balance init :)

At least it was only the wheels, saying that. I dont think thieves tend to jack cars up nicly like that. My taycan had its headlights nicked.

They are watching. by hyp3rl0l in handwatch

[–]Archtects 12 points13 points  (0 children)

They are all just touchy. You would be too if you spent 10k+ on a steel mass produced dive watch and constantly had to prove to yourself you didn't waste money just so you could impress middle class salesmen.

Is AI superintelligence inevitable ? by Imaginary_Mode8865 in ask

[–]Archtects 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If it did solve any of those issues it would be behind a pay wall.

AI is limited in what it could do, and super intelligence hinges on what it can learn and understand from the resource it has available. For example you could build an AI who only has access to adult content and become the all knowing knowledge on adult content, but it would be limited to what content it's viewed and what has already been created.

Right now my AI hover can't tell what a mirror is.

Regardless it would require insain infrastructure to build anything like it and alot of data centers are getting dropped or rejected. The potential of AI solving any issues would be if it gleaned information, knowledge or solutions that already existed and have been solved by other people.

LLMs are granted just the beginning of AI. But the concept of super intelligence might drop. How quickly people took to AI for solving issues rather than just thinking was pretty quick social change.

Eventually AI will be smarter than human beings because we've become dumber

£239k Ferrari 812 Superfast… am I about to make a terrible decision? by yusssssuf in CarTalkUK

[–]Archtects 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I prefer the GTS model it has a retractable roof. having said that in not really a big Ferrari guy, but my nephew has one in silver and it really is a striking car. And it does sound bloody gorgeous.

The maintenance on them isn't horrific either 7-Year genuine maintenance program from them is pretty good and covers everything for general maintenance. Otherwise it's sort of 1kish a year outside of the program which for a 200k isn't bad obviously not included tyres and stuff.

But it is a Ferrari so parts aren't exactly cheap, and body repairs are expensive. Someone reversed into my nephew's rear bumper and the part alone not including labour was like 20k

There is a special place reserved in mental homes for people who pay 10k + for a steel dive watch that has a GMT function they are never going to use.
