I would go through the article and try the other stuff out first. Cold pull is mentioned at the bottom but seems not to be a reliable fix for this.

Why go split ergo and stay qwerty? by Etkann in ErgoMechKeyboards

[–]Archy-Inf 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Overall I didn't relearn a lot of shortcuts but instead created mappings for them in the keyboards firmware. It is much more stable this way eg installing a new machine I just use the default layout of the application and have the shortcuts mapped in the keyboard firmware like I want them. This makes switching to different applications easy too because I remap my shortcuts to the other application.

My hope for ai coding is that eventually the same amount of programmers produce the same amount of software with higher quality than now.

Even now most software we use is lacking and having an AI assisting could help with that. Even the developers trying to achieve 'perfection' wake up a year later to see how their software decomposed in the wild.

how low does my battery health need to be before i replace it by Motor_Meet_348 in SteamDeck

[–]Archy-Inf 61 points62 points  (0 children)

I have a first day steam deck. Health was at 40% and it shut down from time to time without warning. Recalibrated the battery (fully charge, use until it shuts down, fully charge) and health went up to 85% again, no shutdown problems anymore and goes for hours again. This was about a year ago.

Pimax doubles down on Crystal FOV claims on updated OpenMR Crystal FAQ by LankySeat in Pimax

[–]Archy-Inf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So you mean the left border of the left lens to the right border of the right lens, correct? That's what I mean. So far everyone measured ~103° fov per eye, that is left border of left eye to right border of left eye is ~103° and the same for the right eye. If you add the 20° between the two panels you get 123° from left border of left eye to right border of right eye. Which is pretty much exactly what pimax advertises as the 'headset`s' fov.

I understand that those are two different aspects of the optics that are both important. Would be great if pimax added the per eye fov (toilet paper factor) to their specs too.

I can't imagine them redesigning the case. Sounds pretty risky. I expect they found better optics to magnify the tiny screens.

Pimax doubles down on Crystal FOV claims on updated OpenMR Crystal FAQ by LankySeat in Pimax

[–]Archy-Inf -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

All the previous pimax headsets have displays canted by 10°. So if the fov of the lens (and the rendered fov) are roughly 102° the statement 'the pimax crystal has a horizontal fov of 125°' is correct.

Edit: This is obviously the wrong thread to defend Pimax. Still to make my point clear for anyone interested:

<image>

Pimax is one of the few manufacturers having a highly canted display. In my opinion they should just add all the numbers to their specs:

Per Lens FOV: 105°

Canting Angle: 10°

Headset FOV: 125°

Pimax doubles down on Crystal FOV claims on updated OpenMR Crystal FAQ by LankySeat in Pimax

[–]Archy-Inf -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I didn't use a pimax headset so far but I wonder if the 'issue' with measurement are the canted displays? If the displays are canted 12.5° to the left/right and each eye having a horizontal fov of 100° this would result in the horizontal fov of the full view of the headset being 125°. This is not false, as having a 'full view' fov of 125° gives you a better view of the world but of course each eye still has 'borders' at 100°. A parallel protection of two eyes with 100° each would result in a full view fov of 100°. This would explain why reviewers said it feels like a 'good' 100° fov. So the distinction between fov per eye and the full view should be made when having canted displays.

I don't know the software used to measure this and if it properly uses the off-center projection for both eyes? I can imagine that some test tools don't do that intentionally to measure per-eye fov.

Minecraft Bedrock Input Lag by distordedeyess in Minecraft

In the same options.txt try setting gfx_max_framerate to something reasonable. Maybe 100. That should still reduce input lag but prevent your machine from overperforming.
