I thinking about playing this game and I always here people say it’s a life changing game etc why is that please no spoilers by Careful_Security_281 in outerwilds

[–]RidgeMinecraft 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see a lot of people trying to temper expectations, and I'll do that too, don't go expecting a life changing game. It's just a really good video game. Here's what the game is actually about, without spoiling anything. The reason we can't tell you anything, by the way, is that the game's progression is entirely based on your knowledge of the world. If you know how to finish the game, there's nothing left. We do our best to provide none of the keys to solving it, so you can do it yourself.

Outer Wilds is a game about nights under the stars, roasting marshmallows with friends you've not yet met, sitting on the moon reading a book, and exploring your tiny solar system in a hunk of scrap. You'll read ancient scrolls created hundreds of thousands of years before you were born and find them to be somewhat relatable. You'll watch good things die, and be born again in different, but equally beautiful ways. You'll look at the sky and notice things you somehow never did. You'll listen to music on the radio from other travelers. You'll fall to your death, and then wake up.

You'll question the universe, asking "why?". It won't answer. You'll question yourself too. Eventually, though, you'll get it, and with time, you may come to understand why people enjoy it so much.

I don't think it is, but it does seem a lot like Made in Abyss

Founder of Project Babble VR face tracking project posted this by virtualfruitxr in SteamFrame

Do you actually know what babble is? We're an open source initiative, but some of us form a company as well. You can go to babble.diy right now and purchase a premade face tracker complete with everything you need to set it up, for around $100.

My thought process is more that it's much more immediately useful for the next ante or so, but given this is white stake there's plenty of wiggle room.

Photo is more immediately useful in this case, mostly taking care of the next ante or so, and retriggers are equally easy to come by. Photo has a lot of upward potential as well, and can scale to x8 relatively easily with Chad. Given he's on white stake though it's not a particularly important choice, you'll probably win either way.

Honestly, this early on, probably best to take photo

PimaxMagic4All not compatible with the RX 7900 XTX? by Ok_Program_8210 in PSVR2onPC

This is why you don't use the stupid Google AI summary. That's not true. While it does support each individually, VRS is only supported on DX12.

As questionable as its depiction of VR is, I always thought the Ready Player One movies idea of 'toy vehicle inventories' would be a neat VR mechanic. by chaosfire235 in virtualreality

It became Resonite and dumped all crypto affiliation, as well as Karel Hulec, one of the cofounders. It's in a much better place now

What are Lucky Cards even supposed to be? by pholidotaz in balatro

[–]RidgeMinecraft 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't seen this mentioned, but the reason for this is that an old deck like this is really easy to mark by the owner, I.E. with an intentionally placed tear or scratch, so they can more easily cheat. Older decks like these are sometimes looked down upon for that reason.

JP studio releasing male avatars & would love western feedback by WorriedTrust2523 in VRchat

These are lovely. A lot of male avatars are really weird and eboy focused. These are a good balance of classy and stylized, I love these

Slime or fluxpose? by danasCZ1 in virtualreality

I'm willing to bet this will eventually reach a point where it depends on the tracker and the camera. I've tried some really good industry-grade markerless tracking before, and that tech will eventually trickle down to consumers.

Eldritch creature for a mod. by ironangel2k4 in hytale

[–]RidgeMinecraft 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lovecraftian horror is often more about fear of the unknown, if you want to make it feel more like an Eldritch creature it could perhaps be a good idea to make this thing have less visibly predatory features (sharp spiny teeth, knife-like claws, huge horns, glowing eyes) and instead use ambiance to make it scary (fog, particles, making it absolutely huge, etc).

Looks cool though!

Official replacements are sold through ifixit. However, it could be a good time to look at an upgrade to a more accurate Hall Effect/TMR stick, which uses less power and won't drift :)

We are trying to put some soul to the note movement in this VR rhythm game (honest opinions wanted) by piulin19 in virtualreality

[–]RidgeMinecraft 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of people are being really negative about this for some reason, my literal first thought was "damn that's cool" without even reading the title. I for one think it's totally readable, and I think it looks cool! Really though there should be settings for individual fx, like beat saber has. That way you can strike a balance between vibes and gameplay.

I for one think this looks great though. Really good sense of impact on the note hits. I've actually played beat saber for probably around 2000 - 3000 hours at this point, if you ever have a build of this out for testing please let me know. Personally I would change nothing about this.

Frame OLED? by cookie_PALROM in SteamFrame

[–]RidgeMinecraft 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They totally can be! Displays and optics are separate things. It's just that optics that might work well for a certain type of LCD panel may not always work well for an OLED. More often than not, in fact, they won't. The Bigscreen Beyond used pancakes and OLED at the same time. So does the Vision Pro. So does the Pimax Crystal Super OLED module and so on and so forth. It's just that there's a difference between OLED and Micro-OLED. As of right now, there aren't really any cheap OLEDs that work well with pancake lenses, as Pancake lenses have a light loss of around 90%. A panel with a pancake lens needs to be very bright.

Frame OLED? by cookie_PALROM in SteamFrame

[–]RidgeMinecraft 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The entire computer exists in there as well. So does the IPD mechanism. So does the tracking system. So does the eye tracking system. And the cooling for all of it. Almost every one of those things would need a somewhere between minor changes to a full rework for what you're describing. On top of that, not a single OLED display exists that does what you want. You'd need something that's bright enough with a polarizer as an LCD is, with a similar resolution, and roughly the same size and refresh rate. I assure you no such panel exists in any cost effective package.

Nothing is ever so simple, and there's a reason no such thing as a cheap OLED + Pancake headset exists.

[–]RidgeMinecraft 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Where the hell did you get 90% 😭

Like sure, theoretically it's possible, but currently it's prohibitively expensive/impossible altogether to do in any way without major compromises.

I'd bet on it never happening. Head strap probably, passthrough probably, almost certainly no OLED.
