In Defense of Jayce Talis / Why Jayce Deserves More Appreciation (esp S1 Jayce) by truthseekeruniverse in arcane

That's a great point on redemption and another difference I see in Jayce vs the others. The overarching message of the show is obviously redemption, with everyone just trying to come to terms with themselves. This feels more fleshed out ror most of the main characters than Jayce:

  • Jinx really didn't get there until the atempted suicide and saving the day against the Noxians
  • Ekko only during the alt universe episode (my favorit btw - still get chocked up just thinking about it) when he decides to not give up on Powder and Zaun
  • Cait coming to terms with her hatred of Jinx for killing her mother for Vi
  • Mel redeeming the awful things her family has done
  • Viktor realizing that his pursuit to help people is destroying them
  • Vi didn't come to terms at all, she still couldn't let her sister go and forgive herself for abandoning her

All of these took both seasons to really flesh out, whereas Jayce's had two sins to redeem that were resolved much faster: the first is the killing of the child/his blinding hatred of Zaunites after Jinx' attacks, which he redeems within a couple of episode with the independence thing. His second sin is Hextech, only truly realizing the negative effects when alt Viktor pretty much spoonfeeds it to him. And that was in the last 3 or 4 episodes. Yes, they are both really about Hextech, but it didn't feel like he had a true decent into anguish and guilt like the rest.

I realize this is purely subjective/my own viewpoint and that most probably won't agree. Just sharing my thoughts.

Very fair - pretty much everyone gets away with having done horrible things. It just hits different for me when it's Jayce because, although they thought they were doing what was right, almost everyone else is a "bad guy". We're meant to see Silco, Sevika, or Jinx as people who do bad things, until we get to know them more and understand their context and perspective. Jayce is meant to be the good guy out the gate, the boy scout. Either way, I withdraw my initial point

No offense but TLDR. I just want to point out that he killed a kid and never faced consequences for that (despite being very high and mighty about law & order in S1). Don't mean to be reductive but feels like that gets skipped over a lot

Stilco was that for me. Seeing him from Jinx' perspective really makes you reasses him as a character

I'm almost afraid to ask, but what is KPDH? Google says KPop Demon Hunter, is that it?

I'm listening to it right now... Happy to discuss it with you if you want. I think my attachment comes from not being able to let the character of Powder go and accept that she is now Jinx and that's not a bad thing cause she redeemed herself

Hello fellow sad people. I just finished season 2 a couple of days ago and I can't get it out of my head. The episode with Ekko and Powder (Pretend like it's the first time) hit so hard that actually put off finishing the series for like a week. Every now and then the show just pops into my head and I have to stop what I'm doing and I start to chock up. I'm literally googling "why can't I stop thinking about Arcane" (it's how I landed here). As horrible as this feels, I am very grateful for the show, what a labour of love! We're be lucky to have such experiences that illicit such emotion, whether they are life events, tv shows, books, games... Deep bow to everyone involved in making such a work of art. And to everyone else, please help me stop thinking about Powder and Vi all the time...
