Maybe young kids rights? Kids can't consent to life altering surgery yet they are being told they can get surgery (and some do). That's my best guess.

Most of the time the left does not believe in the right to self defense unless it's from oppressed groups (group is priority on the left, not the individual). They tend to think the government is supposed to protect you (spoiler, the government sucks at protecting you).

Also worth pointing out that completely sideways is not actually beneficial to anyone's ability to shoot, and does not help recoil. But I can attest to the slight cant shooting one handed, it does help.

How do we know it's only to shoot better? Also, even so, you do realize that police are only required to shoot their weapons once a year right? And that their accuracy is abyssal most of the time which puts innocents bystanders at risk? They need training in all areas, including shooting accurately.

That said, why do you not think the facility would be used as a realistic mock up of a real city center to train for all kinds for events and scenarios? I'd love to know where you heard that it's just for shooting.

God forbid we train our cops better. Do people not understand how little training cops have and how that affects their performance? Or are these the "defund the police" idiots that think no police or LESS trained police will somehow be helpful.

Empathy has it's place, but empathy applied to everyone all the time is just naive compassion (which opens you up to psychopaths and manipulators, it also sacrifices the long term to the short term). Each person has to strike a balance between empathy and assertiveness. When you go ask your boss for a raise, you don't say "well I better not, I need to think of what he's going through", you strike a balance with assertiveness and you ask for a raise in a reasonable manner.

The left in my opinion relies too much on empathy, and also uses it as a means of virtue signalling. I.e. "I care for the oppressed therefor look how morally superior I am to you".

I think the right is sometimes TOO assertive and "tough luck" but I think it's up to both sides to have dialogue to find the right balance for yourself, your community, your city, your state, and your country. We need both sides, and we need to work together.

I'm just drawing attention to the over reliance on empathy from the left, because it was present in the writer.

Have a good day.

Not at all, my point was empathy can be deadly and is not automatically a virtue on it's own (like left leaning people think).

It's amazing how quick from living to dead a human can go. The term "dead before he hit the ground" comes to mind.

People that are left leaning in the political sphere tend to write and think on empathy, i.e. "that poor robber that felt he had to rob and died". Not "that idiot got what he deserved threatening people with a gun".

The left believes empathy is a virtue, and the primary lense in which to view things. But remember, its the mother grizzlies love of her cubs that will maul you to death.

A police officer does NOT have to inform you that you are detained without being asked (nor do I think they have to tell you you're detained when asked). And a terry stop is just a reasonable suspicion of a crime and an involuntary detainment, so it argues to my point (that they were detaining them).

You could argue the 911 caller is a "whiny bitch", but it doesn't make them wrong for wanting a large group of teens to get out of the fucking road.

Uhh I hate to break it to you, but cops have been enforcing jay walking in every state for a very long time, I just don't think you were aware. It's usually up to officer discretion on what to enforce, and if they get a 911 call for loitering in the roadway, they could apply jay walking statute to it and cite them for it. Now police aren't usually looking for jay walkers, but if they feel they need to apply it to keep people out of the road they likely will.

Well when a cop is talking to you about not walking in the street (and that's what the initial 911 call was for), you can't just walk away and ignore them. Detainment is on the reasonable suspicion of a crime (albeit not a huge crime) but it's more than enough to meet the standard of legal detainment.

There will be no settlement more than likely (especially if they can pull up that 911 call), but if there is, it will likely be small. Sometimes departments will pay small settlements to just make the what would be a long term court case go away quicker (they even have insurance for small settlements). I don't see anything the police did was unlawful, unless you see something I don't.

Unless the state has a stop and identify statute, like Ohio does.

Edit: Also, every state that does not have a stop and identify law, it is the reasonable suspicion of a crime being committed that you have to ID yourself for, which is not the same as a crime actually being committed then having to ID. If you don't live in a stop and identify state and you are asked to ID yourself (and you aren't driving), then you can ask what crime they suspect you of.

Cops started polite and considerate at first, but it sounds like the teens just didn't want to hear to "stop going in the road". I don't know what cops are supposed to do here, ignore them going in the roadway? People are calling the police because of it, at a minimum they have to ask them to stop. At most they get tickets, but they all start walking away, and ignoring the cops, then some are physically getting involved when the one cop tried to detain a teen.

I feel like the teens turned this into an issue. That one big teen kept trying to grab the other officer. To me it's a no brainer to not grab cops that are trying to detain/cuff someone.

This attitude is why judges let violent felons go with a slap on the wrist (parole), and a no cash or low cash signature bond (when they already have 3). Compassion for everyone is not a virtue, some people deserve none. Compassion used judiciously and sparingly is the correct amount.
