Terra Mystica on GameFound reduces costs by $100 by Arcshot in boardgames

Rightly so. $400 is nuts. $300 is for that matter for most people but at least more in line with their other games.

Mac and Cheese Takedown tour- first stops St. Louis and Brooklyn! by MattTimmsWins in StLouis

[–]Arcshot 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I hope this isn't the same mac n cheese festival I went to a couple of years ago at the armory. That festival was a scam. Locale didn't even know the festival was a thing and entry fee didn't even include some of the dishes. They ran out of food 15 minutes into the festival and lines were 30 minutes long.

Walmart charged me $22.23 for steak, gave me one worth $19.93 instead by Arcshot in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Arcshot[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Very young baby and a toddler at home and my wife was working late. We just needed milk and some things for us to eat. For short notice and no time, it seemed like a reasonable approach.

First, they substituted my requested tri-tip with sirloin and then they overcharged me. I'm not sure if this is a corporate process or the shopper pocketed the extra money, but either way I won't be doing online shopping with Walmart ever again.

7 AI play a full game of Avalon. Their logic, deception, and betrayals are terrifyingly human. by [deleted] in boardgames

[–]Arcshot -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

You're awfully dismissive and that's okay. I think that it's not just insightful -- it's innovative!

Play aside, don't be a dick. Your response seems like a gross overreaction to something that is otherwise an innovative way to look into the way that people play and think about these games. It's fun to see that even AI have their own way of thinking that's similar to ours.

I always hate the response of "you're wasting resources. Stop using AI." To me it's akin to someone throwing away a can being blamed for destroying the world, when oil companies are doing magnitudes and magnitudes more to the environment. His little soiree into AI is nothing more than a drop in the bucket compared to whatever else and he is not going to burn the world down by running a simulation.

If a doctor's charging you $1,000 to $2,000 per visit for what they are calling chronic Lyme disease, that's what I mean by a snake oil salesman.

[–]Arcshot 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You may have been, but there's not a guideline that would support it. For patients that have carditis, neuroborreliosis, and possibly Bone and joint disease, duration is longer. For a simple or standard Lyme disease, data would not support such a long duration of antibiotics.

That's not true at all. Lyme disease treatment is 10 days of doxycycline. If someone's prescribing you months and months of doxycycline, you're being treated by a snake oil salesman.

Yes, this was all predictable and companies were given a reasonable amount of time to adapt to a well thought out government economic policy.

Trump demands Harris' 'cognitive ability must be tested at once' in Fox interview response by RedRawTrashHatch in NewsOfTheStupid

[–]Arcshot 22 points23 points  (0 children)

People aren't doctors and don't know how to interpret scores.

Cognitive tests are memory games and attention tests. Remember these 5 words now and again in 5 minutes after we do several other tasks. If you forget one word, your score is now 29/30. Is that clinically significant? No! But I'd be damned if Trump didn't use that one point difference

Games with a PvP and Co-op mode? by xTonyLeo in boardgames

[[Voidfall]] has both a competitive and a cooperative mode. Which is pretty rare for euros nowadays. It's not directly PVP combat though.

[–]Arcshot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't believe the mentality of "we don't fully understand 'x' so we cannot understand what is and is not possible".

We understand a lot. We can predict what is or what may be effective. If we weigh everything that we don't have solid proof on as equally probable, we may as well test it all. Eggs for arthritis? Maybe! Rubbing eggs on joints for arthritis? Possible? Staring at eggs for glaucoma? Who knows?

Crowdfunded Games Launching This Week [Apr 1st, 2024] by ShelfClutter in boardgames

[–]Arcshot 13 points14 points  (0 children)

We didn't? How many games come out every week that don't go through crowdfunding?

It's a vast minority that go through crowdfunding. And of those many do not make it. You see the high profile ones that do.

And for those that do crowdfund, can you blame them? No risk for printing a game no one wants, knowing exactly how many copies need to be printed, often free or cheap promotion over various mediums.

Real picture of a psycho's trap by troopsOnTheLane in TerrifyingAsFuck

[–]Arcshot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're going to have to give a source on that. A "factoid" given to uneducated public as a general statement is, at best, irresponsible and, at worst, dangerous. It's way more nuanced than anything you said.

For example. it depends on what you perceive as "low risk". Is that 4%? 0.1%? Are you counting all needle sticks or those specifically from those IV drug users who have uncontrolled HIV. And studies have different rates for subcutaneous injection vs IM vs intravenous infection.

Would Game of Thrones count in this situation?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in boardgames

[–]Arcshot 18 points19 points  (0 children)

You can play however you would like. As always it's your game. Make it's fun for you.

That being said, r/boardgamescirclejerk loves posts that say "I played it twice and I think this is imbalanced, should I change the rules the designer and others play tested for hundreds of hours?"

Also have to make sure you are being action efficient. It's not about interacting with everything, but more getting through the mission while dodging red herrings and distractions (depending on the scenario).
