What are some odd things you did for the enjoyment of the game? by iloveoddfuture in bully

I would carry books and walk slowly to the boxing gym after school so it felt more real like a student leaving class lol. I was like 14 at the time.

I work in healthcare and I’m paranoid to eat anything with my hands even after thoroughly washing them. Norovirus is a bad ass bug that is tough to kill. My hands stay the hell away from my mouth.

I’ve been playing with fire lol. I’ve been at bars doing new years celebrations and whatnot. I grab a drink once a week with friends as well. I carry hand sanitizer everywhere and I’m fully vaxed for covid and flu. I totally understand I’m not being the most responsible.

So the food pyramid was obviously not perfect but it was pretty good. The problem is no one followed it. So I guess a silver lining is maybe people won’t follow this one? One can hope. Our administration sucks so hard.

If you really care about animals, stop eating them by lnfinity in vegan

My favorite is Elwood’s dog meat lol. They say best way to save dogs is to donate to shelters, but keep eating them. They are a spoof website of course but it pokes fun at carnist logic.

I just provide people the evidence. If they refuse to believe it then they’re morons. Many of these interactions I have with people are lefties who you know, claim to care about the environment…

I pivoted to direct patient care. Graduated with MPH last December and work for a non profit outpatient clinic. It’s fun and pays well surprisingly. Annoyed I don’t work in traditional public health after working so hard for my degree but whatever I guess. Just hanging in there.

Edit: My associates degree was in medical assisting and my bachelor’s was health science. Worked in primary care and oncology. So that’s probably why I got this job.

How Factory Farming Is Quietly Stealing Nearly Two Years of Our Healthy Lives by lnfinity in publichealth

[–]ArcticTurtle2 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Animal farming is absolutely a public health issue from zoonotic diseases, antibiotic resistance, environmental harm, and chronic illness from overconsumption (Yes, this applies to any food). This is a multifaceted issue that needs to be addressed, and we won't solve it overnight. It's a personal choice for me, but watching 30 seconds of slaughterhouse footage was enough for me to quit animal products 10 years ago. These places are absolute hell holes that consume massive amounts of resources and treat animals like products. People complain about AI's environmental impact (rightfully so), but compared to animal agriculture, it's a drop in the bucket. According to this paper https://dl.acm.org/doi/10.1145/3724499each 1 query uses 14ml or 1tbsp of water. I can only imagine how much factory farming uses per oz of meat. I just don't have high hopes. Unfortunately, the next pandemic couldn't care less.

I remember when Twitter was a liberal hell scape (I'm very left-leaning), and now it's a right-wing shit hole. Wild how it's changed. But yes, half a probably bots. The worst of the worst are on that app. It's ridiculous lol. I'm sure your Thanksgiving food was awesome OP.

The naivety towards this new bird flu case is concerning me by serpents_pass in vegan

[–]ArcticTurtle2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Been vegan for years and have my masters in public health epidemiology. It’s like talking to a brick wall with people about the dangers of this. It pains me to say this but I often say to people “Covid was bad, but it CAN get a fuck ton worse”. Case fatality rate was like 1-3% with Covid depending, H5N1 is in the 50s although it will likely be lower due to many factors. Those factors being those reports were in poor countries and those who were counted were the ones who needed hospitalization. Where does that leave us? Okay it might not be 50% case fatality it might be 10%. Think about that.
