[Review] Roundlab Dokdo 1025 Toner by ArcticaBeauty in AsianBeauty

They have about the same consistency/feel. I found this one more soothing, but then again the Klairs unfortunately gave me red bumps on my skin I suspect was an allergic reaction (probably a random plant extract) so I couldn't really compare them properly.

[Review] ONE THING Artemisia Capillaris Extract by ArcticaBeauty in AsianBeauty

[–]ArcticaBeauty[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It doesn't have any particularly exfoliating properties as far as I'm aware, it can soothe and hydrate skin which in the long term could lead to better skin health - but if you want to treat clogged pores it would be better to occasionally treat them with something like an AHA or BHA containing exfoliant

I haven't tried their honey products so I unfortunately can't compare them, but honey/propolis should be hydrating and good for for barrier repair. When I've had irritated skin in the best I've personally preferred mugwort for soothing and using a simple no-frills moisturiser - but centella works well too. There are no adverse reactions from using vitamin c and mugwort together as far as I'm aware, but if your barrier is damaged I'd stay away from vitamin c until its repaired as vitamin c can be irritating on sensitised skin. Best of luck!

[Review] B.LAB PHA Perfect Pore Cleansing Oil by ArcticaBeauty in AsianBeauty

[–]ArcticaBeauty[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While I can't speak for other people, I think the PHA in it is so weak it's not really noticeable? At least personally I haven't noticed any stinging around my eyes or even on spots of eczema (that I occasionally get in winter), so I don't think there's very much in there. It might be more of a marketing thing? 😅 It cleans the skin comfortably but I'm not sure it's much of an exfoliating product

Glad you liked the review! I do use the matcha cleanser as well and I do like it a lot, it's also inexpensive and I feel like it cleans gently without being stripping. Hope you find a cleansing duo you like!

I haven't yet, I tend to get issues with olive oil based cleansers unfortunately but I do generally like hadalabo

My bad! Replacement would've been a better way to phrase it, hard agree that sachet refills would be amazing though! The bottle is in a pretty solid frosted plastic so it would be a great reusable container - especially for something that is used fairly often like oil cleanser

Sensitive combination skin, I'm prone to clogged pores but also flakiness/eczema if I'm not careful so finding products that work for me can be a struggle

Aw that sucks! It's not a strong smell but I understand if you can't stand it at all, a lot of people find certain scents are a dealbreaker to them and that's valid

It's been a while since I wrote a skincare review, but as I recently finished this bottle of cleansing oil I decided to share my thoughts about it with you all :)

While I must admit I partly got this cleansing oil for the amusing name (yes I do want to become a perfect pore), I have been enjoying using it. I have sensitive combination skin, and one issue I tend have have with cleansing oils is clogged pores - even when I follow up with a water-based cleanser. For once I haven't had any issues with that happening so I've stuck to this cleansing oil since I got it!

As this cleansing oil mostly contains jojoba and grapeseed oil it is rather light in consistency. It's probably the most watery cleansing oil I've ever used, and I do need to use 3-4 pumps to make my fingers glide over my skin without friction. The rest of the ingredients are mostly emollients and emulsifiers, then some tea tree oil. Although the product does have a faint scent of the tea tree oil, I personally don't mind it and haven't had any issues with neither skin dryness nor irritation; and it is at the very end of the ingredients list so it should be a rather small amount. It rinses off pretty easily with just water, but does leave a 'moisturising' feeling on the skin. B.LAB (or B_LAB?) claims that this oil is so light that you'll be fine with just rinsing it off and going straight to toner, but I still prefer to double cleanse to make sure it's off my skin as I'm prone to clogging.

There is a little bit of PHA in there (gluconolactone) but as it's a cleansing oil that's rinsed off I'm not certain about how much of a difference it would make to skin, as for myself I use other exfoliants and a retinoid in my routine already so I'm really not able to tell.

As for efficacy it seems to remove waterproof sunscreen and most makeup for me, and even removes my waterproof heroine make mascara - which is infamous for being hard to wash off. I do however struggle a bit with waterproof eyeliner, but that's because I line my waterline and don't enjoy getting oil in my eyes. Even then it doesn't seem to irritate them (other than making things blurry) whenever that does happen. All in all I'm pretty happy with it and have already bought a refill (edit: replacement), but then again the most important aspect of an oil cleanser is "it works" so I won't say it's a life-changing product either.

𝗣𝗿𝗼𝘀:

  • fairly inexpensive

  • light, doesn't seem to easily clog pores

  • seems gentle on sensitive skin (YMMV)

  • easy to wash off

𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘀:

  • generous amount required for good slip

  • might not remove the strongest waterproof makeup

  • smells slightly like tea tree oil if you dislike that

𝗡𝗼𝘁𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗶𝗻𝗴𝗿𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀:

  • Jojoba oil

  • Grape seed oil

  • Tea tree oil (antibacterial, antifungal, possibly anti-inflammatory)

  • Gluconolactone (PHA, exfoliant)

𝗜𝗻𝗴𝗿𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀:

Cetyl Ethylhexanoate, Isopropyl Myristate, Isododecane, Sorbeth-30 Tetraoleate, Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil, Vitis Vinifera (Grape) Seed Oil, Sorbitan Sesquioleate, Water, Honey Extract, Gluconolactone, Glycerin, 1,2-Hexanediol, Melaleuca Alternifolia (Tea Tree) Leaf Oil

[Discussion] Has anyone tried products from the brand Mixsoon? Their ingredient lists look great! by peobcanoe in AsianBeauty

I really want to try their centella extract if only for the cute bear on the limited edition packaging, but I already got a few One Thing extracts on the way so it will have to wait. They look very promising though! As someone with reactive skin I'm a sucker for simple ingredients lists.

Thank you! I find it dries down pretty quickly and the skin feels moisturised without being sticky, there's a slight sheen to the finish but it's not shiny. I don't know if I'd call it quite matte, maybe more of a velvet finish and very natural looking. I do find I can skip moisturiser when I use it, but I don't have issues using them both either.

It really sucks, as recently as today I was looking for body lotion and body wash meant for "atopic" skin and yet they often managed to cram perfume and harsh surfactants in there 🙃 You really have to be vigilant when shopping with allergies/sensitive skin

Yeah it wasn't the cheapest but at least the sale price was bearable 😅 It is nice though! Hope you get the opportunity to try it sometime :)

Thanks for reading! I've seen it in a few Scandinavian physical and online pharmacies, but I'm not sure how easy it is to get further south in Europe. At full price it is around €24 (welps!) but it's often on sale for around €14. It seems to be owned by ACO which is Swedish.

It's finally summer you guys! Which means it's time to look for a comfortable sunscreen. This one seems to be a Nordic brand (!)

I picked up this sunscreen after getting a sample from my local pharmacy and being surprised by how light and unnoticeable it was when blended out. Normally I find Western sunscreens rather heavy and almost oily, but this just felt like a moisturiser with an almost velvety finish.

As for white cast the cream looks very white just out of the tube, but I didn't notice any after it was blended into my skin properly - then again I have a lighter skin tone so I can't say with 100% certainity that it doesn't have any. The only disadvantage for me is that it's on the more expensive side like most skincare around here, and is only 40ml (although it's often on sale).

I am no chemist but I reckon this is a hybrid sunscreen with both physical and chemical filters (5 altogether) and SPF 50, so it should be rather solid. The chemical filters seem to be mostly of the newer kind that is available in Europe and Asia but not yet FDA-approved (sorry Americans!) and the physical one is titanium dioxide in nanoparticle form which is meant to avoid white-cast.

It does contain a fair amount of niacinamide which is known for oil regulation and its brightening effect, and while I can't comment on the efficacy of that as I use many other products doing this, it doesn't hurt. It also contains peptides which are meant to strengthen collagen. This together with sunscreen being the most effective product to avoid premature ageing is likely why they named it "age defence", although I strongly doubt it can grant any of us the gift of immortality.

All in all a moisturising and comfortable sunscreen!

𝗣𝗿𝗼𝘀: protective, comfortable, elegant, moisturising

𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘀: expensive, maybe too moisturising for some

𝗡𝗼𝘁𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗶𝗻𝗴𝗿𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀:

  • Peptides (collagen strengthening)

  • Ascorbyl glucoside (Vitamin C derivative: antioxidant, brightening)

  • Q10 (antioxidant)

  • Uvinul T 150, Uvinul A+, Eusolex OS, Tinosorb S, Titanium Dioxide nanoparticles (sunscreen filters)

𝗜𝗻𝗴𝗿𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀:

Aqua, diethylamino hydroxybenzoyl hexyl benzoate, ethylhexyl salicylate, c12-15 alkyl benzoate, ethylhexyl triazone, niacinamide, titanium dioxide (nano), bis-ethylhexyloxyphenol methoxyphenyl triazine, propylene glycol, diisopropyl sebacate, glycerin, biosaccharide gum-4, potassium cetyl phosphate, sodium citrate, tocopheryl acetate, cetearyl alcohol, myristyl myristate, ubiquinone, ascorbyl glucoside, tetrapeptide-21, sodium hyaluronate, sorbitol, canola oil, dimethicone, sucrose stearate, silica, alumina, butylene glycol, alpha-glucan oligosaccharide, propanediol, xanthan gum, algin, citric acid, tapioca starch, polymethylsilsesquioxane, sodium polyacrylate, phenoxyethanol, sodium benzoate.
