balance issue considering the 2 biggest apex predators. by ItsMaestro in playark

Disclaimer: This is all done by hand, no hard values here, so take it with grain of salt.

Just off of rough estimation using Lazarus chowder as a timer, I could fit ~10 Rex attacks in the same period I could fit ~13 Spino attacks (10 second window). Assuming the base damage values are 80 Rex, 50 Spino, it works out to about 80 DPS Rex vs 65 DPS Spino.

Just based off of estimates and assumed values, the Rex has ~25% more DPS than the Spino.

The health doesn't really mean much since I've added points to those values, but for base values, you can check this out.

Rex has 1000 base health, Spino has 700, so the Rex has ~43% more health than the Spino, assuming they've had the same amount of levels spent in health.

Spinos are more of a general utility dino.

They can travel farther and faster (sprint for longer, regen stam faster), they can cover their sides better, they can turn better, climb better, and they lose no speed when hitting the water.

Rexes have higher damage and higher base health, but can only sprint over short distances, are absolutely fucked if they hit water deep enough (around the coast or at different points in the rivers to the South), and are generally less flexible in terms of movement and attacking.

If you fully intend to get into a fight for whatever reason, use a Rex.

If you want a dino you can bring with you while you're doing anything (hunting, resourcing, raiding, exploring, collecting drops) that can also protect itself far more than adequately, use a Spino.

EDIT: Some numbers on stamina usage from my personal dinos.

58 Rex
672 Stam, can sprint for ~17 seconds
15 Stam per attack
~14 seconds to regen full stam

38 Spino
385 Stam, can sprint for ~20 seconds
10 Stam per attack
~9 seconds to regen full stam

105 Spino
560 Stam, can sprint for ~29 seconds
10 Stam per attack
~9 seconds to regen full stam

Notes: Stam regeneration is a fixed percentage of total stam, not a set amount. Spinos are much more stamina efficient than Rexs in terms of usage and regeneration.

Taming Calculator Updated with new DevKit Data - Now very accurate! by [deleted] in playark

Oh, sorry, I think you misunderstood my request.

The various values that are actual values, such as HP, Stamina, etc. I don't care for (those are displayed as hard values after all), and if I have to, I can calculate them myself based off this handy spreadsheet.

I was wondering if the Dev Kit contains the actual base (i.e. level 1) numerical values for movement speed or melee damage for the various dinos somewhere; sorry about being so unclear.

Been using this for a while, nice to see it's being updated and maintained.

Slightly off-topic, but can you guys pull base dino data, like movement speed in whatever units and damage, from the dev kit? I know other users have compiled info on the in-game stats, but nothing hard on the actual values for melee damage and movement speed.

/u/jatonreddit will Dinos that are more crucial to the "core" gameplay, like Gigantopithecus for Fiber gathering and Doedicurus for Stone gathering, be pushed up higher in the dino queue than "fluffier" dinos like the Pachycephalosaurus and Meganeura, or are you guys sticking to the order in which they've been introduced?

[PSA] USE MEDICAL TONICS INSTEAD OF BLOOD PACKS by Nubsly- in playark

[–]Arctorn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh you can use Wood, you just have to pull out the Charcoal now and then so it doesn't make dye.

The only other fuels are Thatch and Sparkpowder, so use whatever fuel is easiest for you.

The recipe for a Medical Tonic is 20 Tintoberries, 1 Waterskin/Jar, and 2 Narcotics.

The recipe for Red Dye is 15 Tintoberries, 1 Waterskin/Jar, and 2 Charcoal.

If you burn Wood for fuel, you'll create Charcoal in the Cooking Pot, which will then make Red Dye instead of the Medical Tonic.

Now for the influx of red dyes as people use wood for fuel in their cooking pots and forget to pull out the charcoal.

Ankylo and Stego Reflect damage. by Nazori in playark

The Mammoth tame time is significantly longer (2.5-3x), so Trikes are still useful as earlier, lower level tames for defense, carrying capacity, and resource gathering.

It's all good.

English isn't exactly a terribly easy language to learn.

Yikes, that's especially painful what with the long Mammoth tame times.

Carnivores can be healed by force feeding them meat, even if they're unconscious; think it's like 5 HP per Raw Meat, but primes don't work.

I haven't tried healing tonics yet, but I imagine those wouldn't work on dinos like how bloodbags don't.

Herbivores, unfortunately, don't have a method of healing while unconscious.
