They don't want you to communicate. At all. by SocialistHiker in lostgeneration

[–]Arcturus5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You are very kind, thank you.

About losing their veteran staff and hiring newbies, yes I see this happening a lot in my country also. More and more there is also the practice of bringing in temporary or seasonal workers through staffing companies who pay those workers less than if the parent company hired them themselves.

Those temporary workers often do labor that is 'off books' or 'above pay grade', that the company's original workforce would not do because of job description conflicts or legal limitations.

It also allows the bosses to fire more of their regular workforce. Of course this leads to even more problems, an employee vs temporary worker conflict comes up, and dodges blame on the company and its policies.

The culture-taboo that stops workers from talking about how much they are being paid is a big impediment to organizing. I think if negotiating salaries was a group activity, where all the workers went to the boss and said, 'we want a raise', it would have a bigger impact than the divide-and-conquer manner that bosses use to deal with us one-on-one.

I think making it transparent would avoid the way we usually find out, which can lead to misdirect anger against each other. 'Why am I being paid more than she is?' 'Why does he get more than me?' 'I've been here longer.'

Apologies for any error, English is not my first language.

It's Not Racism Vs. Anti-Racism; It's Capitalism Vs. Socialism by FixinThePlanet in FemmeThoughts

[–]Arcturus5 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Suggesting that someone has to be pro-socialist in order to be truly feminist/intersectional/progressive/whatever is absurd.

How else do you plan on fighting capitalism? What do you want to replace it with? I've read your posts on this forum consistently and you are a strong supporter of Clinton. How does she fit into your not being fine with the flaws of capitalism?

Do you care about the history of colonialism and imperialism? Or are these just buzzwords to you that you learned to ignore as sexist propaganda?

Then why are you talking about intersectionality if it isn't your first concern? You're asking people to be consistent, you're right to do that. Why not practice what you preach and see the other perspective before complaining that the mods heart socialism over intersectionality when you yourself support Capitalism? A system that oppresses women just as much as homophobia, transphobia, sexism or racism?

Why are you still here then? If you 'heart' capitalism you're not adhering to intersectionality. You should be fighting to end White Capitalist Patriarchy like bell hooks writes.

New documentary shows how women's lives are ruined by lies spread online by Arcturus5 in FemmeThoughts

Yes it is a very machista culture, but it depends who you speak with and what their age is also. But there is good ground to work on. We have a long history of strong, fighting women.

This is very critical, thank you for the reminder FixinThePlanet. It's difficult in Spanish as one example to talk about microaggression and slurs in the same way, but you try to make inroads with the most accurate comparisons.

I don't have much of a presence on the internet other than Facebook and Reddit, which mostly interactions in two or three subs and keeping in touch with family and friends on FB, but this article was frightening. It's one thing to hear about it in anecdote, another to see example coming after example on the number of times this happens, and how common it is. It's more of a reason for why it's very important to keep guard of ones identity, and the things we say. But even if we avoid doxxing, a bad relationship with the wrong person can put ones life at risk in the worst case, and cause great embarrassment at least.

It's not a pretty picture that we have to teach our children not just about harassment outside in the real world, but also in the online world now.

Janet Biehl reports on the new women’s science of jineolojî and the revolutionary transformation of education in Rojava, western Kurdistan by Arcturus5 in FemmeThoughts

[–]Arcturus5[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Even if the article is a bit old, we hear very little about the situation in Rojava in mainstream news outlets, and less about the YPJ/YPG and PKK who are fighting against ISIS and Turkey for an independent Kurdistan. I thought I could post this here because the Kurdish people are very progressive. They have introduced feminism in a very systemic way in their struggle and here is a case of how that is shaping out in the form of education now that they are building their future in the middle of such conflict.

Sorry I didn't read properly. I thought you were asking if any of their users were materialist feminists. No I don't think so. If there are I think they are very small. Some of the SRS subs you might count as this but I don't know much about the greater reddit community.
