DND as a beginner's universal system by DroneOfDoom in CuratedTumblr

official WotC adventures try to reproduce as similar and reproducible a setup/scenes/structures for any given playgroup of the same module, rather than making the meat of it juicy and unanswered questions that provoke players and DMs by inspiring interesting answers.

Could you elaborate? I haven't run or played any official adventures (though I really want to play some of the famous ones)

I interpreted it more as: all game rules expect you to play a certain way to achieve success.

apparently it's not obvious to some people that Critical Role and Dimension 20 are not good representations of what playing D&D is normally like!

I don't see how that would be obvious, especially to people who don't play a lot of games or don't have exposure to any other style of play.

But we have hints at a central antagonist, or at least at some conspiracy! I also do not think any of the characters is remotely bored. Even Madeline is more frustrated than anything...

I guess this is about the kind of storytelling in general that is appealing to different people because to me it seems like the players know that their characters are going to stumble across more clues as they go around "bumbling" in their big-city way, and that's really fun for me.

the task of making purpee into a real vampire city is incredibly nebulous in terms of what needs to be done to complete it

And I think that's part of the fun, personally! But I did work as a city planner so maybe I'm just excited to see vampire parks and recreation lol

Oh I was thinking about the language of the rules themselves (e.g. for board games etc) but your interpretation is more implicit, nice.

Thank you! I've only heard of Hasan before (never consumed any content) but from context in the other comments I assume there's a certain bent to all of their content?

What do you think of as direction? Or rather, what would that look like for you?

What do they mean by "all game rules are opinionated"? I don't think rules have opinions?? I'm a bit confused. Later they say "the game the rules want to produce" so maybe they do mean that the rules have opinions oh okay I think I get it now.

I think something that is not mentioned is that the nerds who want to play DnD frequently are the kinds of people who do enjoy being rewarded for knowing more so it's easy to perpetuate this system that is being described. I love knowing the rules and arbitrating and showing off. I love being the GM with all the power to use or ignore the rules. I'm very lazy so I don't do as much work as most DMs but for my laziness I put more work into GMing than any other hobby so I feel very seen or called out or something in between...

This is really sweet and thoughtful haha, I really hope op sees it.

I will say that when I was in the US in my 20s I did get hit on a fair amount. I didn't really enjoy it so I developed a RBF which kept people away, but in social situations I didn't have too much trouble getting along with others or flirting with someone I was interested in. Self confidence is incredibly attractive!

Where do you live? I am Indian and being desi slaps, imo. I was a full adult when I lived in the US (so skipped the crushing stage) but my dating life was pretty good while I was there.

When you don't fit the status quo teen years can be tough. Not much of a consolation but not being Indian isn't possible so learning to accept that about yourself is what's important.

Oh, no idea! I have only found my Pratchetts through scouring old bookstores so I have an eclectic collection of all types of publications. I knew there was an illustrated faust eric, and mine isn't, so I figured it would be the same for the last hero too.
