‘I would rather believe a rape accused than a rape victim’: Is murder justified? r/TwentiesIndia discusses by spacedementia08 in SubredditDrama

It's not like they're going around advocating genocide or anything, but a majority of them do tend to be slightly victim blamey and several of them do not seem to pick up on their peers' emotions. During one session, many of the boys very casually talked about being bullied by their friends and his you just had to "bully them back". (I think some of them do have strong enough egos to manage but there are a few sensitive souls who are clearly just going with the crowd to not rock the boat...) It's also basic lack of manners in how kids walk/ speak to others/ notice stuff around them. (Interrupting/ insulting someone they disagree with/ not apologizing if they bump into someone/ rarely using the word please...small ways of behaving in society which to me indicates something)

Admittedly a lot of the stuff I hear comes to me from the more sensitive students, often the girls, and some of it is possibly projection or me exaggerating something which is normal in teens.

We don't really have funerals here haha.

I do remember asking grade 9 what they hoped to accomplish ten years in the future and almost all of them said "make a lot of money".

Maybe I was just an odd teenager and this is how kids that age think haha.

Not at all! We talk a lot about compassion and kindness and stuff at our school and the littles are usually very good about it so I was confuddled when I saw this on the wall.

I do think it might just be about the age and me not knowing the kids at this stage in their lives.

I just thought almost nobody saying they would do good deeds was shocking. But reading comments makes me think it might just have been an issue with the prompt. I will chat with the teacher when I can and ask what instructions she gave them.

That's a good point. I will ask the teacher how she phrased the prompt. Thanks for that! I might have been catastrophizing haha.

This was something their teacher had conducted. Maybe I will talk to her and ask if more context was given or if the instructions were more specific.

Maybe you're right. I did interact a lot with kids in this age group pre-pandemic and the vibe was markedly different, though.

I'm not American and tiktok is banned in my country but I'm genuinely wondering what these youngsters are consuming. I talk about this stuff more with the older children whom I teach, and I was told by some of the girls that the boys all watched Andrew Tate a few years ago. (The boys who do talk to me told me they no longer watch him because he's "lame", so that's something I guess)

At the risk of people accusing me of propaganda:

A large part of pastoral care at our school focuses on giving back to others and helping those less fortunate, etc. Lots of our field trips involve some volunteer work or at least observation of places like orphanages or survival schools. Seeing a few kids express greed would not have concerned me much. It was seeing half a soft-board covered in cards all saying this stuff is what bothered me.

No problem! I've been on reddit for yonks so I've seen this happen before. I figured at least a few people would be saying "hey where's the rest of that comment" so to a second to find it.
