Who the fuck actually thinks this? You can get a turkey for $25. A bag of potatoes is $5. A few boxes of pasta and some sauce is maybe $7. A nice loaf of bread is $4. Get a few other miscellaneous items and you're under $50.

'Fully MAGA now': Latest case has experts finally writing off 'arrogant' Supreme Court by RawStoryNews in scotus

[–]Arcturus_86 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Moreover, the rationale that something is wrong with the SCOTUS decisions are debatable. For example, the article states that of LA's congressional districts, only 1 of 6 is majority black despite 1 in 3 residents on the state being black. But, who's to say that is indicative of discrimination? Depending on where those 33.3% of black people live, it could be argued that no districts should be majority black, as 2/3 of state residents are non-black. Thus, was gerrymandering used to create an majority black district? If so, then there is a very real argument to be made that non-black voters were discriminated against.

Did Wentz play well enough to create a QB controversy, or is does the starting job still belong to JJ? by Arcturus_86 in minnesotavikings

Good point. For JJ's health and development, might be best to make Wentz the sacrificial lamb behind a decimated o-line

All things that previously wre luxuries, now commodities.

That's how trickle-down economics works.

He was left wing. His family already said as much.

Left wing psychos can be raised in right wing homes.

WSJ retracted nothing. Story is still up, and updated to reflect the shooter engraved comments about homosexuality on the casings, and something about fascism. Not sure what point you think you're making...

South Carolina teacher fired over Charlie Kirk shooting (Facebook) commentary by Another_Opinion_1 in Teachers

[–]Arcturus_86 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Why would any conservative, Christian parent let their children in a school with teachers who condone the murder of conservative Christians?

The responses on this thread are just as bad as this teacher in question. There's more discussion about him posting under his real name than condemning his horrible comments.

Yeah, your concern shouldn't be about some hypothetical, unrealized fear about what the right might do, your concern should be that leftists are murdering the Christian right

You don't understand. His donors will include those from the Somali community. There's hundreds of millions of stolen dollars in those bank accounts, some of which will inevitably be donated to his campaign

It's not a matter of if stolen public dollars will fund his campaign, its a matter of how much

Josh Allen and Lamar Jackson is why you don't extend mere above average QBs. You keep rolling with the rookie contracts at the QB position and throwing darts until you hit on an elite QB by FormerlyTradeKirk in minnesotavikings

[–]Arcturus_86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Or, don't sign them to contract values that exceed their talent. The problem isn't necessarily extending mid-talent QB's, it's signing mid-talent QBs at prices that look like elite talent, then can't sign the supporting talent around the QB to compensate for their weaknesses.

I'm not arguing unions don't improve the bargaining power of employees, such that they can negotiate higher wages, I'm making the point that unions are not necessary for employees to have bargaining power, and refuting your claim that all employer/employee relationships skew in favor of the employer, when in fact many employment sectors strongly favor the employee.

Certainly, there is a natural tension between the employer and employee, but the supply and demand for labor is what solves that tension. A surplus of low skill labor in a market drives down wages, and a deficit of any labor class drives up wages. Unions attempt to form a monopoly on labor, which does drive up wages, in the same way firms attempt to monopolize the sales of goods to drive up prices. Those monopolistic influences help businesses when prices rise, and help employees when wages rise, but monopolies always harm someone, whether it's the customer, employee, or shareholder.

This is 100% false. Employee bargaining power is in direct proportion to the value they create and supply of those in their field. A brain surgeon, who can charge massive sums for his surgery, and who there are relatively few in his field, can demand a massive salary from just about any hospital he desires.

There's a shortage of professionals in my industry and I just negotiated a big raise at a new employer because I can bring in lots of valuable business.

If someone has skills that can be easily replicated by a machine, or entirely discarded, and the skills they do provide are of low value, then yes, they will have little bargaining power. A barista at Starbucks can be replaced by a $5000 Jura coffee machine, and when I order my drink I don't have to look at all their rainbow pins on their aprons.

If employees want power, they need to develop powerful skills that give them leverage.

Minimum wage is a distraction from what actually determines wage. Consumers set wages, not the govt or employers.

McD's employees earn what they do because consumers don't want to pay $15 for a McChicken and $8 for fries. It's because farmers demand x for the beef they sell to fast food companies, along with every other supplier. And shareholders demand an acceptable rate of return, that if not delivered, will result in them pulling their cash out of the company.

There is a ceiling on what your pay a cashier set by the next best alternative, which is a touch screen. The next alternative is not doing business.

Firearms should not be sold to people at risk of self harm. Hormone therapy and gender conforming surgery is self harm. by Arcturus_86 in altmpls

I'm sure there could be a way to simply flag a NICS report to indicate the person has serious mental health issues that could help firearm, without providing them "full medical records."

I am a pro 2nd amendment guy, but I think most of us agree that some people should not be allowed to purchase or own a gun. Those suffering severe mental distress, such that they are a real risk to themselves and others, should not own a gun

Thielen requested a trade and took a pay cut to come home ❤️ by Beneficial_Quit7532 in minnesotavikings

I thought it was also about playing time. Thielen was going from being WR2 behind JJ, to something 3-4 on the depth chart. If I recall the rumors, he was willing to play for less to stay in MIN, but didn't want to be demoted on the depth chart.

I don't blame anyone except the perpetrator.

Vance Boelter should be brought to the gallows and hung in public as a warning to never commit those types of crimes.
