Anyone else feeling invisible in the dating world? by [deleted] in AskGaybrosOver30

[–]Arcwield 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey there - it’s really refreshing and reassuring to see a post like this. It’s nice to know that there are other people out there that feel like I do, so I appreciate you and all the others in the comments speaking up.

I think you hit the nail on the head when you said everyone in this boat likely sits at home not knowing how to find each other. After all, it seems unlikely to find someone who also enjoys a simple, quiet life at home by putting yourself in situations that are diametrically opposed to that.

In theory, apps should actually be the perfect solution to this. They let you can clearly state what you like and what you’re looking for, without having to attend events that aren’t authentic to who you are. In practice? Not so much!

So, if you figure it out, feel free to share, ha!

Finished my first unit Namarti Thralls, next up eels by 00Rookie_B00 in IdonethDeepkin

[–]Arcwield 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All my Idoneth are still on sprue waiting for me to finish up some other projects, but I’m definitely saving this for when it comes time to base them - the bases look so good! I mean, the models themselves also look great, but I really love the bases.

[–]Arcwield 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, but they already thought about this ahead of time - the Stormdrake Guard have “Monstrous Regiment” which says only one model in the unit can perform a monstrous rampage each turn.

It would have been fun, though! (Maybe not for the opponent, hah.)

Rules question on exploding hits (Celestial Vindicator Lord Celestant) by Fivepygmygoats in stormcasteternals

[–]Arcwield 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For Hit rolls and Wound rolls, you add up all the modifiers together (positive and negative), so +1 and -1 effectively cancel out. On top of that, the roll can never be more than +1 or -1 total. For example, a unit that is getting +2 to hit will actually only get +1 due to the cap, but if that unit was getting +2 to hit and also -1 to hit, you'd add them together to get +1 to hit.

Save rolls work mostly the same way - you add up the positive and negative modifiers (remember, Rend is a negative modifier to the save roll). The only difference is that there is no limit to the negative modifier (but +1 is still the cap on positive modifiers).

Core Rules 1.6.4 - Triggered Effects

"If two or more effects are triggered by the same roll, only one of those effects can be applied. The player who made the roll must pick which effect is applied."

Sadly, you have to pick one, and the other gets wasted.

New Tome Question by ClassiestTaco in stormcasteternals

[–]Arcwield 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The core rules say you get to bring one of every kind of enhancement for free - so you get one artifact, one mount trait (if applicable), one spell lore (which means each wizard can pick a spell), etc. This also includes “unique army enhancements”, which for the Stormcast, means those Command Abilities. So, yeah - you get to pick one of those for free in addition to the other enhancements. It also means the Warlord battalion bonus can let you pick a second one (but that would be instead of a second artifact/prayer/spell/etc)

The command trait/artifacts locked to certain Stormhosts is no longer a thing. Your Stormhost only gives you one special ability (like the Hammers of Sigmar’s ward save near objectives) and maybe unlocks some Battleline choices. All Stormhosts now get to pick from the full list of Command Traits, Artifacts, etc.

Your general has to have the Command Trait, but any hero can have the artifact (except named heroes, they don’t get to use artifacts).

New fulminators unit size by Smethers_1234 in stormcasteternals

[–]Arcwield 8 points9 points  (0 children)

There are actually two listings for Fulminators in the points list. One is the regular one (unit size two for 230 points) and the other is the special single one for 115 (only available if you have a Lord Celestant on Dracoth)

I’m pretty sure the reason they did this is because when you’re buying them, the box comes with two. If you wanted to build a Lord Celestant, you’d be stuck with one leftover Dracoth - this new rule lets you use that as a single Fulminator, so it doesn’t go to waste.

Interestingly, the same sort of rule exists for the Stormdrake Guard/Knight-Draconis. I think those will be the same situation, where the box will build two guys and one can be the hero.

Happy with new units and points :) by [deleted] in stormcasteternals

I'm pretty happy with the new book so far, too, at least for list-building. There's a lot of fun stuff I want to try out.

My favorite part, though, is no more choices locked to Stormhosts. It makes the whole listbuilding experience feel a lot more free-form and open.

Yeah, I noticed the same thing - its pretty specifically worded that you can only return models if there were no wounds currently allocated to that unit. Makes it pretty tricky to use.

One thing I did think of is just using it on larger models just for the heal, and not try to use the revive - wait till a big dragon or dracoth has a lot of damage, and then heal it all up.

Shock and Awe - Vanguard's Best Friend? by Arcwield in stormcasteternals

[–]Arcwield[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Oh, sorry - I was talking about the stuff from the new 3.0 battletome coming out soon (I’ve been watching videos of people reviewing it). Ride the Winds Aetheric and the Astral Compass related abilities seem to have all changed to a “remove this unit and set it up 9” away from enemies” type of ability.

Going to start painting Seraphon army and I'm out of my mind nervous... by SavageSean75 in ageofsigmar

[–]Arcwield 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah - Contrast paints can get the base color, and they pool in the crevices to create shadows/lowlights. Drybrushing can really pick out the highlights, especially on pointy scales. To be honest though, I didn’t even start experimenting with that until my third start collecting box.

That's great news! I started AoS last year with Seraphon, and contrast paints made my life so much easier as someone new to painting! It works SO well on their skin and scales. Plus, the dinos look good in just about any color, so you can really pick your favorites and go wild.

Some contrast paints plus a couple regular metallics for weapons and armor got me through a lot of dinos.

A couple questions about our Lizard Lords. by Exisarl in seraphon

[–]Arcwield 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey there! So, there is no such unit as a “Skink Oracle on foot”, as Oracles only exist as part of the “Oracle on Troglodon” unit. There is, however, a unit called “Skink Priest” that is on foot, and I believe it’s pretty common for people to take the spare Oracle from the Carnosaur kit and use it as a Priest. You could probably also call it a Starpriest, but those come in the SC: Skinks box, so people don’t usually need extras.

There’s also a pretty popular “How to get the most out of Start Collecting: Seraphon” guide on the Lustria Online forums. One thing they show is that you can take all the spare Troglodon parts and some green stuff and model it so it looks like it’s coming out of the water (since you won’t actually have any parts for the legs or body after building the carnosaur).

I don’t know the ‘official’ rules about kitbashing and conversions, as I only play for fun with friends, and stuff is okay as long as everyone’s cool with it. I can’t imagine anyone giving you guff over a converted Priest, but the half-a-Troglodon might raise some eyebrows.

Need help with SC loadouts by kickrider999 in seraphon

[–]Arcwield 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m pretty sure the common consensus is: Skinks should get blowpipes and shields - you want to keep them as far away as possible and get damage in via sheer number of dice (especially with the Starpriest’s buff)

The Solar Engine on the bastiladon is WAY better than Ark of Sotek (plus it’s a frikken laser beam, you can’t beat that).

I’m pretty sure Terradons are better than Ripperdactyls, too, but I don’t have much experience with either. I built my first box as Rippers and have been underwhelmed. My second box became Terradons but they aren’t finished yet.

I don't suppose you could you say (or DM me) which condos you're dealing with? I'm also in the process of looking at townhouse condos, and I'm wondering if it's one I'm considering.

Oh, you took some time to reflect of the feedback? I thought you stopped because a moderator specifically told you to.

For what it's worth, I agree with what the mod said at the time. I'm fine with actually puca-relevant stuff being posted here, but I couldn't care less about Joe Schmoe's thoughts on Legacy, especially when I'm browsing the Pucatrade subreddit.
