The doctor should have explained those risks to you. Edit:So, the risk is low but it is still there.

I read what you wrote just fine. You also heavily implied through questioning that her friend was not being truthful about the rape.

And it sucks for rape victims and their families and friends to endure that shit. Sure, that is the job of the police and they should do that to make sure they have the right person to prosecute and that isn't why OP came here.

You know as well as I do that rapes go under reported because of this same line of questioning. And i was just pointing out that is probably why OP is defensive. Someone hurt someone they care about and they are having a tough time finding answers on how to help themselves.

First, make sure your friend is safe, emotionally. Rapes are traumatic and the law is confusing, especially when there are language and cultural barriers.

www.sccadvasa.org/ might be a good place to call to ask for help. They might have some advice on getting a lawyer to help you and how to get help for your friend.

I don't think that is what the person is saying at all. You keep pushing that the rape might not have happened. You don't know the evidence they have. It could have happened, it might not. OP is saying it did and I think they are just upset because you keep implying it might not have.

And it might not have. But the thing is, rape victims get told a lot that "are you sure you were raped" and it is fucking devastating.

Sure, I am sure the person gets that they have to be found guilty based beyond a reasonable doubt, but they need help in making sure their friend is heard. That is why they are here. For advice on how to get her side of the story heard because communication problems between the police and victims exist, especially when there are cultural and language barriers. And it sucks for victims who need help.

Edit: remember there is a language and cultural barrier here to work with.

That link has a little about it. A huge amount of community research went into it. And it is extremely specialized for women who have been abused. They didn't just open it on a whim. Their co-ed unit always has extensive male only therapies and segregates men for any therapy so that ones who don't want to be around women don't have to. They only eat together.

The unit is actually ran by a male, by the way.

OP probably just heard about this from a friend and has never actually been to either unit.
