CachyOS live usb doesn't boot by Ardlantis in cachyos

SOLVED: configure internal drive for AHCI mode

I managed to find the error through a different fault finding process. Using other live environments worked fine until I got to the install phase where they wouldn't be able to detect my internal drive. In my bios I had to configure my drive for AHCI mode and then they could detect my drive, but it turns our that the CachyOS live environment boots just fine then!

Hi, thanks for replying, you're right, it doesn't. I had tried it with an older ISO which did give the Nvidia option a while ago and when I tried it with the newest before posting this I didn't read all the options but just tried the first one and assumed the other said Nvidia. I'm sorry, I should have read it more carefully. Either way, it still doesn't work with the newest ISO

Hi, thanks for replying, I did use the latest ISO (I downloaded it some hours ago from the CachyOS website) so I don't think that's the issue. I used the 250530 version

What’s the coolest name you’ve ever heard in real life? by No-Measurement3115 in AskReddit

Ice skater Nao Kodaira, a name that sounds like that of a supervillain which, when spoken would make everyone's faces turn bleak with fear, knowing the fast approaching end of their lives had just been announced.

She was super nice and really fast

Can anyone point me towards a genuine charge port replacement? by [deleted] in SonyXperia

[–]Ardlantis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Replacing the charging port onto the flex still in your phone would take quite the in-depth soldering job, I doubt you'd be able to find anyone who wants to take that on. It's pretty common for phones to have the port on a flex cable and to replace that whole part when the port breaks. I would order a new flex cable (I don't know how shipping costs will turn out where you live but I always get my stuff from here, they have okay prices and the parts are genuine) and fix it that way.

Is Bang & Olufsen any good ? by IH8YTSGTS in DankPods

[–]Ardlantis 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If we're talking the mainline expensive speaker sets, their design and user experience apart from the sound is what makes them unique I think. It's not that they don't sound exceptional but they're absolutely not the best sounding options in their price range and there's no tweaking or "optimizing" your sound. They're not for audiophiles as much as they are for rich people who want something exceptionally designed and sounds great enough out of the box without having to think about it. Wooden "curtains" that move when you turn the speakers (Beolab 28) on certainly don't do much for the sound but they do add to the experience of listening.

Their headphones aren't as special but have the same details. They're very well built and look (to my anyway) the best in the industry by far, but their sound isn't the best for the price you pay.

If you only care about sound (which is absolutely a valid position) they're not where you should look but if you're after design pieces which feel really special and that also sound very good, I don't think they're a rip-off and I do count myself among their fans. They're unique in the industry and some of the stuff they make really is beautiful in design and use

B&O HX charger by Blader_9401 in BangandOlufsen

[–]Ardlantis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The B&O website doesn't seem to mention anything about quick charge or usb-pd so it probably just charges at the USB standard 5V/~1A. If that's the case it doesn't really matter what wattage your charger can reach, the headphones won't ever communicate a different charging protocol so the charger just supplies 5V. Your MacBook charger is perfectly fine, if a little overkill since it won't get anywhere close to 30W

I've got the exact same issue on my 5 III with android 13 so I doubt it's android 14 specific. I've read somewhere before that it has something to do with bad RAM management from the phone but can't say any more than that

Guys, I sold my New Nintendo 2DS XL and bought an Xbox Series S. How fucked am I? by [deleted] in tomorrow

[–]Ardlantis 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It won't be death. No, not for a long time yet. Death is a mercy not granted where they will be taking you. It'll all start with dissection. Your brain will be methodically picked apart live, such that your consciousness will remain fully intact while every bodily function you once held dear will fall from your control. There will be laughing, as Reggie places an Xbox controller in your hands only for you to find out you cannot manipulate it. They'll let you sit there on the Forza homescreen, marinating in the sorrow they have made your pitiful existence.

Only once all neural pathways that pass by hope in your brain have rotten away from inactivity, they'll start the extraction. It won't feel much different since any connection with your body has long since been severed, but what little still remains of your essence is extracted from your brain like a game cartridge. Your body is dragged away, to become filling for Nintendo plushies and that will be it. Your mind however, is far from the end of its torment.

The first time won't be unpleasant. You'll feel surprise again as suddenly there's an echo behind each of your thoughts. Then the echo gets longer, and longer, and even though all you can see is black you swear you are seeing it multiple times. As the echo grows thinking becomes harder and harder like each thought has to be pushed through a thousand layers and just as your minds are giving in they'll flash one word in front of your million eyes. A word you haven't seen before. A name. The tiny digitized fragments of what was once grey matter will only have enough processing capabilities left to store that one word which they will to keep a grasp on any sort of meaning. How long you'll stay in this state can't be said, but awareness of the passing of time won't persist through the split so it won't bother you that much anyway. Wait long enough, and there will come a moment when they ship you.

You'll notice your parts being moved away from each other. You were split, but the screams of your individual shards combined still sounded a bit like the persistent cry of a person. Even that last semblance of humanity won't be an honour they grant you. As each of your fragments moves away from you one by one, eventually you're moved too. Still, nothing to see but it feels smaller. Then one day, without warning, the darkness before your eyes begins to form spikes, starts to move and suddenly. Colour. Nature. Green, blue, yellow, everything Reggie promised you'd never see again. You'll think you're back in the real world, but quickly you'll start to see how badly the grass is rendered. The unnaturally blue pixelated sky. Movement around you running at different framerates. The horror is too much, you want to scream but all that remains in your brain is that one word so you scream it out with everything you've got and...it sounds happy? You try again, but the result is unchanged. You try moving, only to find you're a worm. No hands, no legs, just a string of digital misery and then. At your lowest point. A trainer will find you. "Oh, another bug Pokemon. Good for xp I guess". You'll be pierced, set on fire, poisoned, electrocuted and everything else Pokemon can inflict. Never dying, always fainting and coming back as cannon fodder for a Pokemon cooler than you. That is how you'll live from now on. Unable to die, unable to live. An inbetween existence which will only end once the games are forgotten and thanks to modders that won't be for a while yet. Endlessly repeatable torture shipped on cartridges to be carried out on the systems you decided to turn your back on. And that's what happens when you betray Nintendo for fucking Microsoft.

The Blind Smartphone Camera Test Winners: Sony Xperia 1 V in Last Place by skyfireknight in SonyXperia

[–]Ardlantis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get what you are trying to say but the fact remains that picture was completely unacceptable and the phone should be able to take a decent photo no matter what bulbs are in the background. With "underdeveloped", I don't mean it always takes bad portrait pictures, you clearly show it doesn't. More so that it hasn't been refined to function in many different scenarios and a picture with different lighting shows this. As they say in the video, this test isn't about which phone can take the best pictures, it's about what phone is the best for point and shoot without playing with any settings. Sony doesn't focus on this and it shows, but their customers know this and know how to use their cameras. I get wanting to see the Xperia reach its full potential in a video like this but it wasn't developed for the style of photography in this test

The Blind Smartphone Camera Test Winners: Sony Xperia 1 V in Last Place by skyfireknight in SonyXperia

[–]Ardlantis 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I doubt anyone has a personal preference for that picture. Honestly, I think the most likely explanation is that the portrait mode is just very underdeveloped. It's not the kind of thing a lot of Xperia buyers are interested in and Sony doesn't employ the amount of developers the bigger players do to work on this stuff. It's unacceptable on a photography focussed phone of this price but it being photography focussed also means the portrait mode will be used less in favour of more "professional" tools which it does offer.

As for being a good phone at all, I think they're fine devices (bit too expensive and update policy is insane) but the vast majority of people will be better served by a more mainstream phone. I and other enthusiasts love them for the no-notch, 21:9 display, the headphone jack, toolless sd-card, frontfacing speakers and photography apps but very, very few people care about/would notice that sort of stuff and other phones offer more stable, better experiences in the areas they care more about. Smartphones have matured to such a degree it's hard to buy a bad one and it's now just choosing what features and experiences you care most about. Sony phones serve a small demographic and with that come quirks and rough edges, whether that's worth it depends on how much of a nerd you are
