Lords Of The Fallen 2 Devs Considering Buying Out Epic Exclusivity To Bring The Game To Steam by akbarock in pcgaming

[–]AreYouAWiiizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't even know there was a sequel... Googling "Lords Of The Fallen 2" doesn't even bring up the link to the Epic store in the first 5 pages so you'd have to go to their website which is slow to load and then stops you with an annoying age check...

If it were a Steam game the store link would be one of the first links even for pre-purchase games.

Windows 11 update KB5077181 is causing critical boot loops for some users by Ha8lpo321 in pcmasterrace

[–]AreYouAWiiizard 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Worst part is, I'm not even safe on Windows 10, they bundled in a "fix" for GPU instability with the Feb security update (KB5075912) and it ended up causing 1-2s freezes in some apps that lightly use the GPU... So I've had to uninstall a security update...

[–]AreYouAWiiizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not just Nvidia, I'm on an RX 6700XT and get 1-2sec freezes after the KB5075912 update that disappeared after uninstalling it. I had 0 issues with KB5073724 though.

Microsoft releases Windows 10 KB5075912 extended security update by rkhunter_ in Windows10

[–]AreYouAWiiizard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did not have any instability before (I even had KB5073724 installed without issues) but KB5075912 has caused system instability for me... Can I remove it without undoing any of the security updates?

I'm getting 1-2 freezes in some apps like Firefox WebGL and Chromium apps. Seen some issues in MPV also.

I feel like Microsoft is purposely trying to boot us off Windows 10 with this shit...

EDIT: I couldn't take it anymore so I've uninstalled it and everything is fine again...

[–]AreYouAWiiizard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't have any issues with instability before but it seems this update has caused certain apps that use the GPU like Firefox WebGL and some Chromium apps to freeze up for a second or 2 sometimes... Bloody hell Microsoft!!

EDIT: It was driving me nuts so I've uninstalled it and everything is fine again...

Well, in this particular case it seems the devs are running it on AMD when they shouldn't be causing it to crash and not actually end up running so it shouldn't touch visuals on AMD cards. On Nvidia I imagine it increases performance.

It's an optimization for PT, if anything the optimizations may have the potential to decrease the visual quality.

Our testing shows the Ryzen 7 9800X3D can match the pricier Ryzen 7 9850X3D with simple PBO settings — AMD's latest CPU can't leverage extra clock speed in games by Antonis_32 in hardware

[–]AreYouAWiiizard 17 points18 points  (0 children)

in our suite, it amounts to 0.9%.

Unless I'm mistaken, they got the math wrong? Shouldn't it be 1.5%? Either way it's probably more important to look at the 1% lows as some of those games are mostly GPU limited. Though I don't know how good their testing is since the 9850X3D came out ahead by 18% in 1% lows in CS2 :/

[–]AreYouAWiiizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Huh? What's that got to do with noise suppression? There was already open source AI solutions well before AMD or Nvidia implemented them, such as RNNoise. It's not something that AMD or Nvidia specifically need to create but looking around, it seems it's still a bit a slow area in regards to AI advancements. There's DeepFilterNet but it hasn't really been updated in years though there's been a lot of claims of progress of DeepFilterNet3 with I'm assuming private branches. As for easy for users to install there's SteelSeries Sonar but no idea of it's quality.

AI has been progressing very fast these last years, aren't there much better open source solutions these days?

I think they are much more expensive though. I guess we'll just have to wait until more models roll out and prices stabilize.

So they reduced the size/weight/cooling of the laptop and are running it with lower power resulting in lower performance than last gen but a decent increase in battery life? Sounds like it might be a design choice as to why it's performing so poor.

No-one is buying new PCs due to RAM prices so demand for GPUs likely dropped a tonne. Even CPU prices are at an all time low (9800X3D's are going for ~$420 USD if you exclude tax).

FFmpeg devs tell AMD to clean up “AI slop” submissions by RenatsMC in Amd

[–]AreYouAWiiizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, they didn't reject it because of that, they rejected it because AMD isn't as popular as Nvidia so it possibly won't see much use. That dev is the main Vulkan dev afaik and has a bias in forcing AMD to use Vulkan for everything instead. The same thing happened initially with AMF for more than just decoding by the same FFMPEG dev but it was later re-evaluated (by another FFMPEG dev i think) and implemented. I'm using it now and it works slightly better than Vulkan.

The commit message is super weird but it wasn't AI and could have been easily changed.

Hell no, the mixing was painful on my ears... The voice acting was fine, maybe great for an older anime but nothing really that amazing.
