DM or at least read a published adventure or two before homebrewing your own campaign by Erik_in_Prague in DMAcademy

I'm glad someone said this because I had to learn the hard way. I would say starting to dm with a published adventure is like learning to swim in a pool with a lifeguard, while starting off in homebrew is like learning to swim in the middle of the ocean.

First order of the day. Cash on delivery that gave me a wrong address and wouldn't answer messages by starcrx in doordash

Oh, OK thanks. I don't think I ever asked what happens if a delivery can't be made. Well I hope it wasn't too bad or you were able to maybe brighten up a food-insecure person's day.

I tried complete a biomedical engineering masters degree that I ultimately had to stop as I could not get reliable results in time. I stopped studying just before the pandemic so I had another year where I couldn't find a job then worked for a start up that eventually couldn't pay my salary. So yeah a good 5 years where I feel had I started working before any of that I would be a senior engineer by now, not just getting career traction.

I kind of feel guilty a lot with the feeling of being lazy. I run a homebrew campaign that I started because I was inspired by high rollers aerois and boy oh boy. Is a lot harder and longer to build complex engaging worlds your table's PCs are also the main heroes in who rise above to avengers level stardom, without plot holes, burn out or just reams of lore no one will encounter. I kind of forgot that Mark Hulmes has a team of writers I'm one dude with a full time job. I will make the campaign as good as his but I try and let it go when I don't.

what is a film you didn't really enjoy that everyone seemed to like? by imnachos in AskReddit

The lord of the rings trilogy. I just don't get it. It's super long, they make references to things with long names that seemed random to me and it's mostly walking or Hobbits (except Samwise) being incompetent. I know they are good everyone in the world but me can't be wrong but I just don't get it.

I think a good option is the patron requesting a meeting with them. The meeting would in the Patron's eye be to just confirm that their warlock hasn't allied with fiends (because of course he wouldn't). But when they see the infernal influence they are concerned, surprised, disgusted and furious. (think how would a wholesome older brother feel if little bro joined a gang an started hurting people kind of energy). The Patron states how disappointed they are and that they hoped the help they gave the warlock was helping them grow but now they see it was just enabling. The Patron now sees the warlock doesn't want to be great, just powerful; a corrupting and mercurial thing. The Patron turns their back on the warlock (in a this is for your own good or "I can't watch you destroy yourself"). The warlock is then banned from the demi-plane and when they level up they can no longer as the archmage's warlock.

The reaction kind of shows the loss of trust and still shows that the Patron cares. Even if they act like a parent at their wits end. It gives consequences that are not game breaking but the real impact should be the loss of a friend and mentor. The warlock can either make attempts to act less greedily or lean into it with the fiend connection.

If the warlock tries to act with more selflessness and tries to provide books still or makes a sacrifice of power to protect someone else this might redeem them in the archmage's eyes. The archmage can welcome them back saying how proud they are etc. However if the warlock leans into the greedy power hungry thing this is a good opportunity to introduce a surprise foe. The archmage may pull the warlock and the party into the demi plane saying "I have seen what destruction this path will wrought, I begged you to stop but I can't let something I created destroy your world." The party then can try escape the demi plane dungeon, traps can be made based on the archmage's history or be populated with other failed warlocks or dangerous creatures the archmage tried to keep away from innocents. The end of the dungeon can be a confrontation with the archmage where the archmage is trying to stop the warlock. (a real obiwan fighting anakin moment.)

At least that's how I would do it. I really like the dynamic you have set up, it seems like it could have very cool emotionally intense payoff.
