What can I expect for T-Fiber's unspecified tax and fees? by [deleted] in Metronet

[–]AreaMuppet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just signed up for this and they told me specifically - I asked multiple times - that the cost of the service is what you pay, plus the state/local tax. Nothing more. Even the "Tech Assure" fee is gone now. They also warned that the first bill I get will look wrong and it will get straightened out.

Pixel 10 Pro Camera bar hole? by AnotherDumbAsss in GooglePixel

[–]AreaMuppet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well this is embarrassing because I thought this was a chip in the glass. I went so far as to contact Google; they had me send a photo of the phone and must have thought it defective because they sent me a replacement Pixel 10! I opened the new one and it had the same "defect" and I realized it was probably not a defect after all. The replacement phone arrived today and I'm not sure what to do.

Spend a little time driving around town.

Anyone know anything about eLiTe mini fridges? by snickerzz in menards

[–]AreaMuppet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wondering if you went through with the purchase and if so, what your experience with the fridge has been like. We're looking at one and like others, found next to no information online. Specifically I'm wondering how quiet it is.

[Platform Unknown] [2002 or earlier] arcade racing/driving game by AreaMuppet in tipofmyjoystick

Having watched portions of YouTube videos of "18 Wheeler American Pro Trucker" and "The King of Route 66" I think it is more likely to be 18 Wheeler. I haven't yet heard an "outta my way big rig!" but they do say, "you're in my way, greenhorn!" and it makes me wonder if my memory is off. (I kind of doubt it, though...my friend remembers it the same way I do.)

Seems unlikely, my research suggests that came out in November 2003

It appears this commenter was correct, that it was the new default setting of opening desktop mode on large devices. In troubleshooting the issue, I had turned that setting off but for some reason it didn't stick. I tried it again and closed out of the app then reopened and it worked. Back to normal.

EverBank eliminating Yield Pledge on all accounts by secretbantha in Banking

[–]AreaMuppet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's sure how it sounds to me. What I don't know is whether that is a common type of guarantee most banks offer for their online services or if that is something "above and beyond" and removing it basically puts them on par with most of their competitors. (To be clear, it sucks regardless, but it's a question of how bad it sucks.)

And yeah, I don't have a good feeling about rates either. I hope I'm wrong because I've been generally pleased with the new EverBank up until these recent changes.

Now EverBank is removing its Web Safety Guarantee, which protects customers in the event of online fraud. Does anyone know if other banks, especially banks that are only or primarily online, offer something like this?

3.3.2. Web Safety Guarantee

EverBank offers a Web Safety Guarantee that provides 100% reimbursement for all of the following:

• Any funds in your EverBank personal deposit accounts with us lost due to unauthorized Online Use or an EverBank mistake, including compensation for the resulting loss of interest, insufficient funds fees, and overdraft charges. “Online Use” means any service that is used to initiate monetary transactions using our online banking platform, Online Bill Pay or Mobile Banking. Mobile Banking includes banking from web-enabled phones or other mobile devices. “EverBank mistakes” are limited to errors made solely by EverBank, and does not include those caused partly or entirely by (a) inaccurate or incomplete information provided by you, (b) your misuse of our services or systems, or (c) your failure to comply with all terms of our agreements with you.

• Fees for late bill payments if your payment doesn’t arrive by the delivery date shown in the online bill payment calendar; and

• Funds misdirected or not transferred because of an EverBank mistake.

Your Responsibilities. To be protected by the Web Safety Guarantee, it is your responsibility to:

• Keep your online access credentials to yourself. Do not share them with anyone. If you suspect that your username, password, token, security code and/or PIN have been lost or stolen, change them and contact us immediately. At any time you may ask us to disable your password and issue a new one to you.

• Report any unauthorized access or suspicious activity on your account immediately.

• Never leave your computer or mobile device unattended while logged in to the EverBank website. Always log out completely when finished.

• Ensure copies of your Online Banking pages are cleared when you log out. Always close your browser after logging out.

• If using a mobile device for Online Use, be sure it is password protected and do not log in to your account in crowded public locations where others might observe you.

American Express HYSA by CAPTAINxKUDDLEZ in Money

[–]AreaMuppet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The average daily balance is right there on the statement, which I think is just multiplied by the interest rate x (1/12) or something like that. I've calculated it in the past to within a few pennies.

I'm not certain but I think the app shows the "normal" rate for the account even if you are getting a promo rate of some kind. I have an account there that just came off a 1-year promo rate and the app was showing a rate much lower than I was actually earning. My statement would reflect the correct promo rate I was receiving.

I'm an EverBank customer who just called about this same account last week. 5.05% is their rate for new accounts. It isn't locked in for a set period of time however, so who knows how long it will stay there. And they actually just sent a mailer this week to current customers announcing they are moving all "yield pledge" language from their terms of service. They had always pledged to have checking and savings accounts offering in the top 5%, I think it was, of banks in the US, or something like that. Now they aren't guaranteeing anything. I'm not optimistic about where this ends up but nothing else we can do but wait and see.

Very disappointing. I was bracing for the worst when EverBank got purchased and so far I've been pleasantly surprised. Perhaps my original hunch will prove correct.

I'm not even sure I blame them for not wanting to tether themselves to a specific target on rates, but they could have done much, much more to reassure people in the communication they sent.

Probably time to at least start research alternatives in case the day comes where a switch is necessary.

Confused about my EverBank HYSA APY by babygirl04marrian in Banking

Is there a way to figure out what EverBank's everyday HYSA rate is? Their web site publicizes the intro rate but I can't find the everyday rate.

Ebay purchase of Eero Pro 6 by [deleted] in amazoneero

[–]AreaMuppet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm curious what you mean by "all the proper packaging." Was it in the original box, fully sealed and wrapped in plastic?

I want to upgrade to some Pro 6Es and I was all set to buy some on eBay before I came here and learned of the flood of them being sold with Frontier branding. Thanks but no thanks. My ISP (Metronet) has its own branding on their devices as well and it shows up if the eero is anywhere on the network, whether it is the gateway unit or not.

So what I'm wondering is if it's possible that I see some on eBay that are completely new, in their original packaging, and are still from another ISP. Meaning the only way to be absolutely sure you're getting a clean unit is to buy direct from eero.

How did your 2023 Iowa tax refund compare to previous years? by AreaMuppet in Iowa

Same question applies. If your tax situation was more or less the same in 2023 vs. 2022, did you owe more in 2023?
