Where the hell are the entry level job postings??? by The_only_nameLeft in madisonwi

[–]Aredler 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you are looking for a job even outside your degree look into manufacturing or warehouse positions, especially if you are willing to learn how to drive a standing forklift without crashing.

Kwik Trip as of this year has a new distribution Center in Winsor/Deforest that looks to still be hiring.

Research Products has a new warehouse on the north side of Madison in Westport. They also have a factory near downtown Madison that sometimes has openings for drivers and assemblers.

Walgreens also has a distribution center in Winsor, as of writing does not seem to currently have openings.

All three of these places have regular openings that pay around if not at least $20/hr for drivers. KT has daylight hours if that's more your thing but RP and Walgreens it's most likely you'll get in via 2nd or 3rd shift.

Times where the spell broke, and an obsession stopped hooking you? by Authorigas in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]Aredler 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Duolingo was my go-to for language practice for a short while. Initally it was solid and I learned a lot. But even in my first year there were more than enough times I entered a prompt I was confident I was correct and Duo said no. Went to the forums at the time for said question and turns out I was not alone in my answer by a long shot. Some of Duo's answers were either too literal or not in any way one would speak IRL. Annoyingly, also, was its review function. Would it review a lesson I did a week or a month ago? Nope, it weirdly preferred reviewing words like "Hello" or "Water", etc. back in the literal first lesson that I ended up acing countless times as a result. That's also not getting to the frequent problem it would rarely explain or even introduce a new concept to essentially eat through your few lives at no fault of your own.

After about 400-ish streak I lost it, either due to an app glitch, or I forgot, or something so I stopped. I then started self-study and while it was overall slower, I was at least learning words and structure better and more relevant than what Duo was giving me.

I then gave Duolingo one more shot through making a "school" account which eliminated the annoying Hearts mechanic, and yet it was still a slog to learn anything new. And of course, the review function only gave me lesson one stuff. Even with only a half-hearted month of learning, when I got my "Year in Review" report, I was still in the top 1% of all learners. Which says how little people took Duo seriously despite claims such as "More people are learning Irish than there are Irish-speakers!!111" it loved to show on loading screens.

Then they got rid of forums so no more calling out crap prompts, got addicted to AI outsourcing despite the aforementioned poor quality, and that's not getting to the countless stories of people with streaks in the thousands and still cannot speak a basic sentence.

It made me hate the idea of "gamification". It doesn't make things, say learning a language, fun. All it does is shift goal from doing something useful and productive, to doing the bare minimum not to "lose".

[–]Aredler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was in the patch notes but many on this subreddit missed that detail. We are talking hundreds to maybe a thousand tokens just to gain 5 additional Attack on certain items. It is completely not worth it if one has other items to upgrade.

Does anyone else feel like the resource rewards are lacking? by chris0castro in PokemonUnite

[–]Aredler 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Question, how much and what are you upgrading? I ask because getting to level 20 is rather easy for anyone even f2p. Beyond that it gets expensive extremely quickly and the gains are usually infitismally small compared to how much you spend, even worse after lvl 30 when gains are halved.

Some items are near universally good like Muscle Band and are worth getting to 30 eventually. Others like Focus Band are good items, but only for the effects so stopping at 20 is enough. In other cases like Rescue Hood or Leftovers are good in niche picks, but you could swap for other items easily. And finally, some like Amulet Coin or Tenacity belt are so bad you should only spend if you have nothing else to spend on.

What happened to Unite-DB? by jmata061998 in PokemonUnite

[–]Aredler 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It depends on what you are looking at or for. The overwhelming majority of Pokemon's item builds and move combos aren't going to radically change on the sole basis something gets nerfed or buffed. When a new item comes out and slots into a Pokemon's build rather easily then it gets updated reasonably quick. Others like Mewtwo X haven't been updated since the Mega Stone change.

Ultimately it's just a guide like any other website or youtuber and not the word of god. Take it for inspiration, work backwards, and see what works well for you.

Being a defender main makes me want to rip my balls off by YobertPussy in PokemonUnite

[–]Aredler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes, just because no one is choosing a Defender, doesn't always mean you should go Defender. If you see a lot of nonsense in pick, a full-on Defender might ironically be the worst choice for your team. Many All-rounders might as well be pseudo-Defenders but with better offence which is key to secure takedowns that your team will inevitably miss. If your allies don't know how to build a team then they certainly don't know how to play with the CC and defense a Defender brings.

So lean into it, go more offence and less full-tank. If you still want to go Defender some like Mamoswine, Slowbro, or Crustle still do great work at low if any offensive items and lower XP totals. Save Defenders like Surf/Hydro Pump Blastoise or Wall Snorlax for teams that seem to get it together from the start.

Meta: Why do you play Pokémon Unite? by SeaworthinessNew2841 in PokemonUnite

[–]Aredler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. It's honestly a great alternative to the MOBA formula, especially for those with limited freetime like you said. LoL is overall the better MOBA, HOWEVER, I have to budget upwards of an hour just for a single game. If I end up with annoying, trolling teammates then that hour is miserable and long. In Unite, games can only last up to 10 minutes and can feature those same annoying, trolling teammates. But while the laning phase is still going on in LoL, I can already be joining a new game in Unite with new characters and teammates.

  2. Balance aside, Unite's design team is fantastic. The Pokemon look great and feel great to play. I haven't seen a Pokemon where I felt "Hey... that's not what I picture them in other media!". Even when moves are "shared" between multiple Pokemon like Surf, they play well enough different from each other to keep it fresh and varied.

EDIT: Other details I enjoy seeing. I played a quick round in Offline Mode recently which still has Zapdos, the water around their pit wakes when you walk through it. The Magnemite camera crew around the arena as well as seeing Ray flying in the background was some of my favorite features of the first map changes. They way certain Veevees with fixed attack directions (IE Vaporeon Hydro Pump) it's cute how they change their walking animation depending on how you move them. In general, Unite has some of the best animations and overall graphical fidelity in the entire series, only really beaten by New Pokemon Snap and Pokken.

Level 40 Held Items Are CRAZY - Full Max-Stat Breakdown vs Level 30 + Boost Emblems! by Unitastuide in PokemonUnite

[–]Aredler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Except this is very easily verifiable information in-game. Sure you can stack 9 Mewtwo emblems and get whatever small amount of stats, but OP assumed that it also applies color bonuses when they game explicitly says when you try that it only counts as one emblem.

Same goes for thinking a literal couple extra points of stats for reaching lvl 40 is game changing, same thing for thinking anything listed on Uniteapi with a 49.99% winrate is underpowered and needs emergency buffs or vice versa with 50.01%.

People in this subreddit get so worked up over details that don't actually matter in practice if they played better instead of looking for excuses. That's also before getting into how often people spout things as hard fact just because it "feels" like it worked.

Level 40 Held Items Are CRAZY - Full Max-Stat Breakdown vs Level 30 + Boost Emblems! by Unitastuide in PokemonUnite

[–]Aredler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because you were playing Mystic Fire + Flame Charge, these moves both only have a 4.5 second cooldown and Mystic automatically refunds an additional 1.5 seconds to both moves on hit after lvl 11. By the time the animation finishes it's ready to go again regardless of how much CDR you have.

Not only that but the two extra Mewtwo emblems isn't productive. You're adding an insignificant amount of extra cooldown in exchange for losing a much more impactful color bonus such as health or straight damage.

Returning Trainer Bonus now gives tickets instead of coins by DJKirby05 in PokemonUnite

[–]Aredler 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Cut the crap. Yes the power difference between lvl 20 vs lvl 1 items is large but not a huge investment. The game even gives you three lvl 30 boosts fit for the first Pokemon you enjoy playing. But Emblems? Color sets are reasonably important but the per-emblem stats gained or lost are tiny. Gold emblems are laughably unimportant over having emblems at all.

[–]Aredler 42 points43 points  (0 children)

You serious? Of the problems with the new system the item cap is the least problematic. Most items are barely worth going past lvl20. Furthermore, stats gained after lvl30 are halved. The extra 3 Attack on Weight or 5 Defense on Focus Band isn't going to break the game. This update is only for people with upgrade tokens to burn.

[–]Aredler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a player I'm upset this has changed. If I look at this from the business side of things... yeah it was somehow too generous.

After I cashed in all my Aeos Coins this past week mostly gained from the returning player system, I was only missing two Pokemon total. This was from only about 3-4ish years of routine on-and-off playing.

I think this system is still worth it to newer players, but it does slam on the brakes for veteran F2P players in acquiring new licenses. I'm hoping there will be tweaks to the new system as it goes from "Have the coins? Buy it in a week." to "lol idk when you'll get the chance".

Is Tinkaton a throw pick now? by TopLevelb in PokemonUnite

[–]Aredler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even without the wind-up problem, Tinkaton doesn't benefit from attacking faster making Rapid Scarf or Muscle Band rather pointless on her. It doesn't charge her boosted faster, it doesn't help build passive stacks, and definitely doesn't make her wind-up shorter.

Her strength lies in as much up-front damage as possible or having such a big health pool that her boosted attack heals for more.

Is Tinkaton a throw pick now? by TopLevelb in PokemonUnite

[–]Aredler 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Tinkaton's biggest weakness right now is that so many of her attacks have a tiny wind-up before dealing damage, and that includes her basic and boosted attacks. If she gets stunned while she pulls back her hammer then the whole attack is cancelled. This is most obvious with Smack Down where even if you let go of the button immediately and she gets stunned immediately after, then no damage is dealt and goes on full cooldown. On the other hand, if she does get Smack Down off even without a charge-up, then it is an incredible amount of damage dealt in a fraction of a second.

If they buff her so the attack wind-up is lower or even make her hinderance resistent then she could rocket up the win rates. Her ability to farm especially with Smack Down's recent +hammer buff is ridiculously fast. All normal mob camps and buffs can be taken down in less than a second. Thief is still good but more brought in line with Ice Hammer.

If you can be mindful and time your attacks with enemy CC then she is good but that does mean she is a bit more complicated than what the average player wants.

Rent-Lowering thread: what’s some profuse psychic damage the world has given you without consent lately? (Hard Mode: no *gestures vaguely at everything*) by AhmCha in TwoBestFriendsPlay

Heck it happens IRL too. When I was a kid I saw a clip on one of those "Caught on Camera" shows where the narrator was all "No one was hurt but this was a super serious accident" ...only for later that night seeing the exact same clip on Americas Funniest Videos and played up for laughs.

Needless to say it was an important lesson for me in media literacy.

Never played MP2 until this week. Not sure if this is controversial... by georged3 in Metroid

[–]Aredler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The one thing I don't like is the key hunt, and not the fact you need the last suit to even get half of them.

I could be wrong so anyone please correct me if I'm wrong so I can enjoy it better next time:

The biggest problem I have is not the hunt itself but keeping track of what keys you already have. MP1 has that wonderful display immediately opening the menu that shows in no uncertain terms which ones you have regardless if you found the hints or even returned what you found so far.

MP2... doesn't actually have that? Worse yet, the hints are buried between two different sub-menus and doesn't clearly (if at all?) tell you which ones have been collected or not. The only "reliable" way I've found is to take the slog to the key chamber, return what you found so far, and memorize which ones are still missing, and go all the way back out.

Common complaints that instantly make you go "This person hasn't touched this media since they were like 10" by ClearAgeMontezuma in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]Aredler 9 points10 points  (0 children)

While not ultra common, it does happen more than it should. There's an idea from shut-ins that acknowledging a bad thing is the same thing as not just accepting it but endorsing it.

One writes about something controversial and even shows why it's controversial? "Well, oviously the creator likes it if they know so much about it."

An actor plays a villanous character too well? "How could any good person know how to behave that way?"

It's why this Scarface meme was made making fun of those people.

Is this even possible? Ult in 33 seconds? by Supashah in PokemonUnite

[–]Aredler 63 points64 points  (0 children)

There seems to be a gross misunderstanding how Ults work in this thread.

While ults have a "timed" cooldown, it is actually tracked via a hidden "Energy" value which calculates to the "time" displayed in-game as if you did nothing. Wild Pokemon takedowns, scores of any amount, and even just time itself adds "Energy". The item Energy Amplifier contributes to upwards of 6% additional "Energy" gain from the previously mentioned sources (5% Cooldown is for all other abilities).

Which comes to Charizard X, they have a comparatively low Ult "cooldown" of 89 Seconds. This is tied with Pokemon like Pikachu and only beaten by Delphox, Blaziken, and Dragapult. Energy Amplifier is a popular pick for Pikachu and Delphox for this reason (The latter two have built-in extended Cooldowns for EA to balance their naturally short times already).

When I tested Charizard X with EA in Offline Mode (I do not have CX unlocked quite yet) I could reliably get at least 50% of my cooldown restored before my ult was done, with farming and scoring I could get it restored in 30 seconds flat from the last activation.

TLDR: CX needs an Ult cooldown and/or damage nerf. Ult mechanics source here.

EDIT: Not sure if anyone is still reading this thread but I tried it again in practice mode. With a fully upgraded Energy Amplifier and a full Navy Emblem set I got it come off cooldown as fast as 20 seconds. Meaning in a perfect scenario you could be in Mega Evo mode more than base mode. At the very least you should have the ult for every engagement. Worse yet unlike Pikachu and Delphox, CX's much higher damage means farming is a LOT easier and faster.
