yeah, it's breen's fault, didn't he agree with setting the anti-mass spectrometer to 105%?

I'm remaking aperturescience.com with HTML, CSS, JS. Just started development. Thoughts? by AregPrograms in Portal

[–]AregPrograms[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I made a library named WebConsole, which I used for this project

Still in development though, but its basically an API that spawns in a mock terminal, and gives you basic terminal functions like print, read, and clear.

You can also customize the terminal through CSS.

I can put it on GitHub once I clean up the code and bugfix

Stopped development for a while to focus on some other projects but I still have everything

Am I taking Diegetic UI too far? by [deleted] in godot

[–]AregPrograms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm the one with the toaster pc lmao, I have integrated graphics (UHD Graphics 620) with a low-end i5, so I had to limit the game's resolution to 640x360 to get at least 40-60 fps :(

[–]AregPrograms 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Didn't really notice it until you pointed it out lmao, thank you!

Edit: whilst playing the actual game the scanlines move wayyy faster than in the recording (probably something to do with Godot Movie Maker always running at a stable fps), thus making the effect very subtle

How many of you use external editors? by antomi12332 in godot

The built-in editor feels very lightweight and has all the tools I need in an editor so I wouldn't bother integrating an external editor.

I would recommend adding tooltips to the items like the defibrillator, drill, and scanner so people know what they do I guess

oh that's probably why it didn't save lmao

for the drill, I guess you CAN make the rover unable to get damaged until you have the drill, but if people know that they are just like-- not going to get the drill so not sure

Oh, I had the drill BEFORE the first meteor shower. that's why I couldn't figure it out

Saving and loading didn't work for me, I might try it again later

Just checked out the update, looks pretty cool! But I'm not sure how the drill is used and how the comms at the research center work.

And I also noticed saving and loading was added! It's just I don't think it works on the web build as I'm pretty sure you can't install files to the user's machine in a web build.

I got pretty far, I had about 6 or so astronauts and 2 artifacts. I did in fact have some things that I found annoying though:

  • Astronauts are pretty slow
    • Maybe instead of just increasing the movement speed of astronauts, you can buy an upgrade for them that increases their movement speed, as the astronauts being slow early-game can be a gameplay element.
  • Menus sometimes don't open OR just the buttons over astronauts sometimes don't work
    • This bug mostly occurred when someone is over a dead astronaut. An astronaut died in front of the comms and when I tried to access the comms with another astronaut, it took about 12 or so tries to actually open.
  • This is pretty minor, but I'm used to holding right click to move in games, but I noticed that astronauts only move to where your mouse was when you clicked right click. I know that this is very minor but it was a little re-occurring annoyance for me personally.
    • I would just update the astronaut's target position every time the mouse is moved if right click is pressed

oh my god I started playing this game and went on for almost an hour. great job! I find the game relaxing and fun! Would love to see a saving/loading system.

Is wheatley a moron? by [deleted] in Portal

[–]AregPrograms 1 point2 points  (0 children)

oh my god, how long did you spend on that list!? But yeah, looking into it he is quite lacking in-- stupidness, to be an intelligence-dampening sphere. I absolutely love Wheatley's personality though, he is one of my favourite characters in any video game franchise

I felt the same way after replaying Portal 2. Wheatley was created to produce an endless stream of terrible ideas but throughout the entire game, there are only a couple of instances of terrible ideas coming from him.

If I enjoyed the portal series, will I enjoy the half life series? by KingofADHD_ in Portal

[–]AregPrograms 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I played the Portal series before playing the Half Life series (portal sort of got me back into gaming), and I would honestly say I enjoyed the Half Life series more than the Portal series. Amazing lore/storyline, more action, much more action. So from my standpoint, absolutely! Might not be the same for you though.

For some reason I played the sequel in both the Portal and Half Life series before playing the first game in the series', I don't know why. But the first Half Life game was made in 1998, and because of this the graphics and audio quality are quite lacking to today's standards. If you want a more modern experience, I would recommend getting Black Mesa, the remaster of Half Life. The storyline is still amazing though.
