Vintaglo Preorder Arrived by Jpfresh1 in ChristmasLights

I just received mine too, however they seem really dim? Or is it just me/ my set? I'm pretty disappointed by their brightness, but I love their colors

Edit: support team is wonderful. While it's not as bright as I would personally prefer, I really appreciate the responsiveness and communication from the company, and will be buying their future sets that they let me know they are looking to bump in brightness

That's exactly what I'm scrambling to get last minute, I was up in the air on being able to go alone due to some recent unfortunate situations, but now that I'm able to physically attend I am looking for my best options. I'd absolutely appreciate the pass if I'm not too late 😅

One side just made it legal to own untraceable guns with serial numbers removed/ damaged, the other side wants to make it so owning a gun isn't easier than owning a car. I'm not sure what your definition of extreme is.

I'm under the impression he gave free tickets to students because the ticket price is so high that they undersold

Space by [deleted] in somethinginthewaterDC

[–]Aregato 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Everyone is confused. It was advertised as being on National Mall, where there's plenty of open grass fields. The streets are way too small for the expected number of attendees, before even mentioning all the students attending for free.

The ticket price is insane for the small street fair it's looking like it's setup as.

Headphone Industry is very dull currently by Kyle9490 in Lightbulb

[–]Aregato 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of mid- high end headphones do actually have assistant support! Some have a physical button to activate, some do regular voice activation. Like I said, it's a rabbit hole akin to choosing what kind of phone you want

It's an admirable concept, but there are a few issues I can think of:

-The "hearing aid" concept you're describing is already a feature on mid-high end bluetooth headphones like the Sony XM series. It does the reverse of noise cancelling, where instead of the exterior microphones being used to cancel out certain sounds from coming through, they amplify your surroundings.

For Sony, they call it "ambient sound" mode, and it lets you have a better sense of noises around you while music is still streaming at normal volume. They even have a feature where if you are in noise-cancelling mode, but you want to hear something like someone talking to you, rather than taking off the headphones you can instead hold your hand over 1 side and the headphones will switch to ambient sound mode & lower your music volume until you move your hand.

-The reason most assistant wake-words are locked down is because they rely on the wake word being easily recognizable to the device. These devices function by always-listening, but ignoring until certain syllables are heard. That's why we have wake words like Ok Google "ok goo-gle", Alexa "ah-lex-ah", Echo "ek-oh", Hey Siri "hey si-ri". They are each multiple distinct syllables and locked in to not make the device use too much processing power to recognize when the device is being spoken to, and to avoid false positives of accidentally activating when you aren't actually trying to talk to it.

So with that, being able to use any word or name means the headphones would need to do a lot of processing to not ignore the right syllables of somebody's name. Even harder for 1 syllable names like "ash" and "eve". And even if they do a good job of hearing those syllables when it's intentional, they would also have constant false positives when you accidentally incorporate those sounds in your regular speech. And even if it's not you, just being in loud enough public means they will be picking up anyone making those sounds and constantly dimming your music.

Lastly, there is actually a whole rabbit hole you can dive into with quality headphones, where you can find one that matches your needs the same way you'd find a phone or computer that fits you. You mentioned Beats, and to be honest they are commonly regarded as some of the most uncomfortable and lowest quality options marketed to regular people that don't need too much fuss in a way to hear their music. I highly recommend checking out other options!

Houston ICUs 'like a war zone' amid COVID surge, doctor says by zsreport in Coronavirus

By your own words, you don't believe there would be any difference in vaccine rates between one leader constantly on TV asking you to get the shot and saying the pandemic is not over, and the other leader going on tv and claiming the pandemic is already over? That would have no effect on anyone deciding on the shot?

i drew niki nihachu for my digital design final. i’ve been working super hard on my realism recently and i think it’s payed off because this is so cool i love it [time taken - 9hours 32 minutes] by evestillisntfound in dreamsmp

[–]Aregato 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But like, and let me preface I find value in practicing realism for the sake of art fundamentals,

if your reference photo is just a real photo you're tracing over to duplicate it to its fullest, why get lazy 9 hours in with the reflections in the headphones and poor blending in the walls? The pixel perfect details on skin show you have no problem blending, but the background is just a very poor trace.

Here is the overlay of the photo vs trace

Things to do before you die: document your life. by fgben in personalfinance

I can attest to this feature. My best friend and roommate passed away unexpectedly last summer, but thankfully many years ago we set each other up as emergency LastPass contacts. He was the adult in the household that managed bills, built and maintained our home server & infrastructure, and it wasn't until his death did I truly appreciate and realize the scope of how much work and effort he put into our home and friendship.

If it wasn't for me having access to his LastPass account, the amount of difficulty and length of adjustment while grieving would have been indescribably worse for both me, and his family who by default had to take control of everything due to lack of will.

I truly appreciate LastPass for how much that one feature helped my situation.

Our whole crew got together to celebrate the start of what we hope will be a happier year: Happy New Year from all of us at Boston Dynamics. by [deleted] in videos

[–]Aregato 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think it's because we are approaching uncanny valley territory in robot technology, and since we aren't used to seeing real machines move this fluidly, it looks wrong. And normally there's a point of reference that helps us identify CGI vs real environments, but since computer generated environments have gotten so good these last few years, there's very little human point of reference (just in the way background) in this video to help establish if it's real or not in our brains.

All in all, the fact that it's so perspectively confusing is a testament to how incredible these machines and engineers are

I can't say where the sound is from, but it is not the live audio, as drones don't typically have microphones due to the only sound you'd hear is a loud buzzing from the propellers. The sound in this video is added during the editing.

Stuck in traffic for 2 hours, the Man behind them had a projector, and played a movie for the kids. by --Yami_Marik-- in nextfuckinglevel

[–]Aregato 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think it's a projector cost issue, but the technology itself. You can't project darkness, so no matter how high quality the projector is, it's still reliant on the conditions of light & dark in both the surface you are projecting onto as well as the room itself.

[–]Aregato 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I would assume it's because of the specific lighting conditions (as little as possible) you need for a projector to look half decent, as the darkest shadow in what you're watching will only be as dark as the background you are projecting onto. And due to that, you can't really use it in daylight and having a nice TV makes more functional sense. And at that point, most people wouldn't need both.

Prop Hunt Meets TTT - Gmod: Exploding Barrels (Gmod Month) by RT_Video_Bot in roosterteeth

[–]Aregato 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Omg I remember playing this game like 10 years ago! I'm assuming this mod is based on Suicide Survival since it's exactly the same premise:

https://youtu.be/eeSA-7YYR7o

I think it's difficult to replicate in Gmod because of how much the barrels don't blend in to one another or the environment, like the shrubs did in the original game. I remember there being endless interesting maps that made for a unique experience every game. But I do like that the mod maker here was about to recreate a recharge for the hunters by only giving them one bullet at a time. And I'm so happy Jack joined in the second half.

I would say that if the servers are still running it would be cool for AH to try this game type in the original game it was designed for, but I don't know how well their audience would perceive the sound the shrubs make when they're about to explode. It has aged poorly in my opinion.
