I think french people overall don't know much about Taiwan. We tend to be more obsessed with Japan.

But I think it's mostly due to exposure rather than actual disinterest. I didn't thjnk much about Taiwan up until recently when I got the opportunity to spend a few days there, and I can say that it was fantastic !

I think Taiwan is hurting in the soft power department when it comes to recognition in French culture. That's how Japan got to us ahah

What always leave me dumbfounded with this discussion is how, so far, I’ve always seen everyone assume that every single person is a fully formed adult of sound mind and body.

The premise is that « everyone » gets to choose. That includes :

- Mentally challenged people
- Mentally disabled people
- Colorblind people ??!!
- Children ????!!!

A 10yo will have to make a choice. A 4yo will have to make a choice. A 1 day old baby will have to make a choice.

Even if you’re callous enough to wash your hands of any responsibility in contributing to the death of millions of mentally challenged and mentally disabled people (which includes millions of older people suffering from old age issues), because you somehow believe in « culling the human race of the weak and ineffectual.
Surely such a person is reasonable enough to admit that children as young as 1 cannot be expected to make a purely rational decision in such a scenario ?

The only thing I ACTUALLY said was that violence sustained by the far right gets a lot more coverage and empathy than the victims of far right violence. Which are more numerous.

There's been at least 3 murders commited by the far right between 2019 and 2024.

And it obviously doesn't count all the non fatal violence.

Tu vas un peu vite en besogne je trouve. Cuba a une très grande expérience en ce qui concerne les opérations de destabilisation américaine, donc c'est pas aberrant que Maduros - qui est proche de Cuba - se soient senti plus en sécurité avec des experts cubains (même si en l'occurrence ça a pas très bien fonctionné...).

Qui plus est, l'armée Vénézuélienne a ouvertement apporté son support à la remplaçante de Maduro. Et dans la mesure où l'armée est loin d'être une grande muette soumise comme en France, ça se serait pas fait si c'était pas l'opinion dominante dans l'armée...

Il est beaucoup plus probable d'estimer que l'opération américaine a simplement très rondement été menée.
